That part where ange was like off the ball movement is a part of football.. it is and will always be.. but Isagi has always ever been in a team eccentric environment, he has never ever had to get in a one on one confrontation constantly.. cuz he's always had the, "ok I'll have it here isagi" or the "pass it back isagi" which are often good.. But what made Nagi and Barou good is the fact that they were in a rely on me to get this goal mentality where isagi never had to rely or be relied on, it was all "team mentality". So realizing weapons was never isagi's strong suit.
I think there's a difference between knowing something and understanding that thing. Isagi seems like he wasn't challenged enough with his team or opponents to be able to truly comprehend those basics. Blue Lock forces him to do nothing but refine those things, which makes Isagi truly realize how to play soccer.
it was stated in a light novel that isagis highschool coach forced him to play for the team so he dedicated his talent to making his team better as a whole while burying his ego as a striker
It's always interesting to see how Isagi has been playing soccer without actually really understanding it, kinda like Hinata when grandpa Ukai explained the mechanics behind the quick and tempo. Although Hinata had a lot less basic skills. Perhaps Isagi has skills he's been using but doesn't understand them, it took others to point out his spatial awareness that he had been using unknowingly. As Naruhaya said, he's a genius of adaptability which makes him a very interesting 🤔 character with potentially limitless room for growth.
I agree completely when it comes to the "Off the ball" movement "discovery" on Isagi's end, and how it was presented. Its presented as this big epiphany moment for Isagi, when for anyone who has played football for a decent amount of time its a somewhat natural concept, at least on a basic level. That being said, despite how it feels like this is being presented for people who dont really know football that well, which it is, i dont think "Off the ball" in it of itself is the point of the epiphany at all. Rather, its more so how Isagi thinks of the concept itself, that was "rewired" in this moment. Before, his movements off the ball where rather predictable and basic, just spotting where there is a space he can use, and running to it immediately. After this moment though, i think whats trying to be conveyed is that Isagi, is starting to think of every single scenario, as a 1v1 scenario, regardless of whether he has the ball or not. Because of that, he starts thinking of his "off the ball" movements much more thoroughly, taking into account Barou's field off vision, Barou's own spatial awareness, using his "Blind Spot" to his advantage, and even faking Barou out by forcing him to move against his center of gravity with a fake out run, thus winning the 1v1 duel without even having the ball. Thats what Isagi *actually* learnt from Naruhaya in this match. Its really important as well, since Isagi isnt the greatest dribbler and he doesnt have the best physicality either to be great at ball retention, so him figuring this out, is what allows him to be able to create his own goal scoring opportunities as a striker, without necessarily needing to rely on incredible passers/dribblers like Bachira, with this he can open himself up for a goal in such a clear way, that any kind of pass will suffice for him to be able to use his 1 touch shot, his "Direct Shot" and score immediately. It just combines so well with Isagi's already existing playstyle since it just enhances his already strongest weapon, his spatial awareness, by forcing him to now take into account not just his own, but also the enemy player's own spatial awareness into his movements, making him so much harder to mark and shut down. That being said though, i completely understand Ange's initial reaction of like "Bruh, you really only figuring out this is a thing now", the way this is presented initially, for anyone who's played soccer even at an amateur level, it just sounds so baffling at first, despite the actual nuance that comes into after, when Isagi elaborates during this final play of the match, and in the following matches of the second selection. When i was first watching the show that was also more or less my reaction to that moment, until i saw how this was actually being applied and elaborated on by Isagi in the following matches and plays, after the initial epiphany moment
he is here, the genius of adaptability, HIMSAGI 'I AINT HEAR NO BELL' YOICHI also isagi with the off the ball movement wasnt him realizing he could use it himself, it was him realizing that it was more important than he thought when it came to 1v1s. especially when its a 2v2
I'd like to think the whole "not being able to play for the national anymore" is also a lie by Ego to make the players give there all, just like he lied about there being a rank in the first selection. Also... If I'm not wrong, Naruhaya was one of, if not, the youngest among the cast.
Also, even if he has that authority there's no guarantee it will stay in effect. After Blue Lock is completed, there won't be a need for the punishment for losing anymore. Everyone who goes onto the next phases, and especially the winner of it all, will have improved so much that it would be worthwhile without the risk.
It's not like Isagi didn't know about the off-the-ball movement, as you can see him talking about it before his awakening, but rather that he wasn't giving it the importance that it should have.
Base on context, I think Isagi knows about "Off the ball movements" but didn't consider it as a "one-on-one" match-up at first. 1v1 without the ball. Great reactions as always! 🫡
The views, minutes ago the vid was posted, and the likes all have a 3 and a 7. Thanks for attending my inspirational speech. Side note, I love Ange tryna console Carlie with the crypto argument XD
I could definitely be wrong on this one. But i feel like Your "off the ball" and Isagi's were talking about slightly different things. You stated that "When you don't have the ball you have to move" When isagi was talking about how your movement is still playing chess against all the other players as well. He has to constantly be in not only the head of those gunning for him with the ball or those he's gunning for woth the ball. Isagi has to constantly be reading and playing chess with every single player on the field. I hope that helped clarify my thoughts on that. They were both similar "Off the ball" Movements. But He wasn't just talking about moving in general, but how he has to always be strategic with EVERY move. 🙂
I agree that the overdrama with soccer techniques can be silly at times. At least the episode brought it back with Reo being a crazy ex. The true weapon of the series is the drama between the boys lol
@@faithkim8503 Maybe if he was being blocked by multiple defenders but both times it was a clear shot. And the 100 score challenge was probably just as stressful. Especially since it was designed to help deal with those stressful situations.
@@derpin2879 yeah I get you, but what I mean is that Naruhaya is kinda obsessed with the “geniuses” and how much he wants to be one of/ with them, in the 100 goals challenge he was able to only focus on how to score while avoiding the blockers, to him they were regular blockers so even if it was stressful it wasn’t as distracting as being in the field and playing against the “geniuses” he’s been obsessed with the whole time even though they weren’t in his way when he tried to score, it’s the mere idea of being with them I think. It’s kinda like having a beautiful voice and singing multiple songs majestically and then you suddenly have to have a live concert with the one idol you look up to the most lol. Idk this is my pov it might be wrong
One of Isagi's biggest problems is that he keeps comparing himself to other people. He's like oh I'm not on par with all these geniuses. Well how do you think those people got to that point? They worked for it. Sure you have outliers like Nagi who are freaks of nature when it comes to picking stuff up but he still had to work on it. If you're always comparing yourself to other people your drive and will to progress forward from where you're currently at becomes stagnant. Evolution comes from knowing your limits and surpassing them regardless
Yea it was kinda silly the discovery of the "off the ball" thing as a football player its really basic thing to know but i think they did it to teach the viewers who don't know much about the game Himsagi about to cook fr these next episodes 🔥
Naruhaya helped not only isagi, but gagamaru too. Since his weapon is getting behind someone, he always bully gagamaru about his foods and steals one from him. Gagamaru got better at detecting naruhaya making isagis averageXaverage useless against him (probably)
He obviously knows what “off the ball movement” is he was just commenting that that is still technically a 1 v 1 in which you can use tactics like getting in the opp’s blind spot. It wa a just a focus shift from winning 1 v 1 with the ball to without.
I feel like the off the ball movement is a bit different - its not as if he cant do it or doesnt know it - he just never considered how to implement that into his new found weapon - dont forget it hasnt been that long since he figured out his talent. So when he is thinking about how to use it he is considering how to utilize off the ball movement in conjunction with his skills. To consider where everyone else will go, what they can see etc. - Its much less of "AH I just figured out what this is" and more of "ah so if I pay attention to everyone's line of sight and move accordingly, I can reach my positions with no issue - plus I am already good at that since my awareness is next level"
Why isagi didnt thought of off the ball movement if its a basic thing? Bec you cant really do that in a 1v1. Which he thinks about this game. But this match is a 2v2
I hope you will someday react to Ao Ashi a football anime comepletely different as Blue Lock but just as hype. A more realistic/technical and team oriented anime.

i do pity naruhaya's backstory, but there's no room for pity in bluelock. i can imagine if they had pick naruhaya, isagi's team will probably go back & forth between 2v2 & 3v3, never strong enough to move on ahaha
Nagi MVP in both episode 14 and episode 15 is ridiculous when Barou almost 1v3ed against Nagi Isagi and Naruhaya. Imo I would have given mvp of this episode to Isagi because winning goal is always the most important
