In my opinion, this video is the perfect highlight video of a player because it shows the good, the bad, and the ugly. I love it :). Great video for scouts to look at and see what Trey is good at and what he needs to work on. Great Video Just Bombs :)
Looked like he was trying to do too much early on, which is understandable since this is his only game of the year. I'm still not sure if he's ready to declare. His best plays were designed runs & it's nice to have that ability, but he just didn't look too good throwing the ball. Again, this is just one game, so we'll see how scouts view it.
That's how I saw it too. He was making throws he didn't even try attempting last year. Plus, it looked like the Bison were running an entirely new type of offense. We didn't see designed run plays for him like they did last year until later in the game. Since it was a showcase, I think they called plays for him to showcase his throwing more than they probably would've liked early on.
@@JustBombsProductions hes not ready just watch last years fcs playoff he struggled to throw the ball the whole playoffs
He's probably going to really need some time to sit on the bench. Ideally a whole season. He's a boom-or-bust prospect based off his inexperience and rawness as a passer. The talent and ceiling are extremely high though.
After further scouting this guy post draft, I genuinely cannot believe he was taken 3rd overall. Not even comparable to Fields. So much potential here, but he hasn’t proven anything yet. I hope he works out.
Everything...and that's every single thing on tape points to a 5-6th round developmental player.

The 0 Ints seem to be because he throws it so high neither the WR or the DB can catch it lol
You based his 2019 season on his 2020 game? You are what we like to call "clueless."
@@paidtourist6563 I watched a lot of his tape and honestly it's not too far off. His accuracy and touch need work.
@@rentedguccimink1948 Josh Allen's accuracy also needed work. If you don't understand his work ethic then you will not understand that once he fixes those accuracy issues, he will literally be the envy of the league
@@rentedguccimink1948 half of his completions are receivers with nobody around them. The other half are in the flats. I’m looking forward to watching SF play, I love seeing pick-6’s
I guess you have to be an NFL scout because I don't see it. Looks like he's playing against a local beer league football team. He runs two plays, QB run and go deep. This is crazy.
He is miles behind other previous QB prospects who have succeeded he doesn’t even move up or around the pocket unless it’s designed for the play
The problem with Lance is that he's really, really inexperienced. Including this game, he's thrown 313 passes in his college career. These guys don't have a good track record. Cam Newton is the only real success story, but he started one year in JuCo before playing at Auburn. Kyler Murray is another that's short on experience but doing well. Basically, the end of the list. Trubisky was a high pick with one year of experience. Same with Haskins.
Scouting evaluation: Lance is undoubtedly a toolsy prospect with a very strong arm and exceptional running ability from a QB. However, he's got major accuracy issues. I counted only 6 throws that I'd label as "pinpoint." His throwing base is too wide causing him to miss most of his deep shots. I guess it's only fitting that easily his most impressive throw off the game was dropped at 8:40. He doesn't have a good feel for pocket and plays oblivious to the rush much of the time until he literally gets bumped into. He moved on from his first read (or safety lookoff) to his second read and did a good job not staring down his receiver as many college QBs do. However, he forced passes that weren't there when he had time to look elsewhere. Central Arkansas was able to fool him with their blitzes and changing looks from pre to post snap, rolling a 2 high look into middle field closed for example. Many college and rookie NFL QBs struggle with this and learn with experience, so it's not overly concerning. As a pure runner, he wouldn't be among the most athletic QBs in the league, only due to true freaks like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Kyler Murray bring in the league, but appears to be right there with the next group including Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson.
Player comp: Ryan Tannehill. This is an odd comp however, they both have similar issues with being generally accurate, but not pinpoint accurate (over most of Tannehill's career, not 2019) and not feeling the pass rush very well. Tannehill struggled for much of his career before finding a home in Arthur Smith's play action heavy scheme. I could see similar struggles for Lance if he doesn't also find himself in an accommodating scheme.
Best fits would be Minnesota of they want to have a plan to move on from Cousins, Raiders if they want to move on from Carr, 49ers if they want to dump Garappolo, Browns if Mayfield doesn't work out, and Jags. Generally any place that plays with offenses from the Kubiak/McVay/Shanahan school and the Gruden school.
I can agree with most of what you said but Lance is a better athlete than Josh Allen. Lance has some power back moves to him!!! Allen only ran 4.7 40, I bet Lance runs a high 4.5 or low 4.6!!!!
Cover 2 looks really gave him grief dude is horrible in the short to intermediate passing game, missing wide open guys. Threw several passes that would pick six in an NFL game, dude is seriously raw. If this was against Alabama, two of those balls would have been picks taken to the house. He had 4 maybe 5 pickable passes. He throws with his eyes before the play begins, and cant throw on the run worth shit, and being a mobile qb that is concerning. Out of HS, Lance ran a 4.92, unless he grew a rocket on his back from then till now, he is slower than Zach Wilson, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Mac Jones. Simple cover 2 looks give him grief as it is, what do you think he will do in the NFL? dude will be an INT machine.
As a niner fan, wasn't impressed with this game. I hope he grows and gets the proper coaching he needs
Fields should've been the pick! Niners seriously messed up and Kyle and Lynch will be gone in a few seasons.
@@cali4920 as a niners fan I totally agree. I wanted Fields. Honestly Lance is probably a bust. I hope I'm wrong. Im just watching from my couch so what do I know?
Idk bout the hype on him a lot of the throws he’s missed you simply just HAVE to hit to stay in the nfl.
He regularly made the throws last season. Seemed like he put more pressure on himself with this one game than he needed to
See if you can watch last year's games, he had something like 38 touchdowns and zero interceptions, I just think he was Rusty in his first game back
Carter notogooglespying He had 38 TDs against terrible competition. This school is in better conference than he played in and it had a couple NFL prospects and they made him look terrible in ways a 1st round QB should not look
Nikhil I know but just like the FBS has different conferences like SEC vs Big East, so does FCS. This school he faced is in better FCS conference than the one he plays in and they made him look terrible. Which is why it’s insane for any team to use a 1st round pick on this kid when he’s never even faced an FBS team and looked terrible against an average FCS team
In the not too distant future, the NFL will have QBs who RUN for more TDs than they PASS on a consistent basis. It'll be FUN because the QB position will be full of electrifying and dynamic playmakers! Get your popcorn ready!
the league is going more towards an air attack even with a generation of mobile QBs being introduced.
Not a great game for him but you can tell he has the mobility and arm to be a solid NFL QB. Not sure I'd line him up in 5 wide like you could Burrow or Trevor Lawrence but he's going to be deadly with the right coach in a play action oriented offense. Could see Cleveland, San Fran, Minnesota trading up for him.
This kid will need to get the Patrick Mahomes treatment. Sit on the bench for a year and LEARN.
He's already missed a year in college so now your talking TWO years of no football.....ouch.
@@Jakery1057 49ers team is too good to be in an experimental year and Jimmy if healthy can actually really play.A healthy Jimmy with a healthy 49ers roster makes 49ers the 3rd best team in my opinion after T.B.Bucs and K.Chiefs.
With no offseason, summer practices, and during this pandemic you knew he would be a little rusty in his 1st and only game this year. Plus the other team knew this was his NFL combine show and so I feel like they made NDSU try to beat them on the ground instead of the air.
If it was a combine show for Lance, he failed horribly, proved he cant step up in the pocket, has terrible vision and pocket awareness, cant throw between the hashes, and if it were an NFL game, would have thrown multiple pick sixes. I mean Central Arkansas is no Alabama! I wouldnt draft Lance till the 3rd round IMO.

@@whitesticcwilly8907 a mediocre game against a terrible team is not acceptable. He couldnt pass for shit. I guarantee Mac Jones goes ahead of him. Especially after his strong showing at the Senior Bowl practice. His game against UCA was unforgivably bad. You cant watch that game, and go! Yeah that dudes elite.
This kid is a total project. There is a sizable gap between Justin Fields, Zach Wilson and this kid
Truth be told l rather go Zach Wilson Trey Lance then Justin field just cause Ohio state quarterback since too fail often in the NFL
This one was rough. This is the least NDSU game I've seen in a while. Guys were running wrong routes, Lance was missing players, and he overthrew some guys in the flats. What I did like was his resilience. He looks a lot like former FCS superstar, Steve McNair.
Running wrong routes? Dudes were wide open underneath and Lance was yardsailing passes, or throwing it behind or underneath them. He never had to throw intermediate passes last year, and hardly ever played against cover 2 looks, Dude is an INT machine waiting to happen. He throws with his eyes pre snap, and cant throw on the run worth a shit.
He’s got accuracy issues out of this world....
Lions next in line to take the throne from Stafford after sitting a year..let’s go
I'm not sold on this dude being great in the pros, but I'd love it if he proves me wrong
I wonder what team is stupid enough to draft this dude in the first round. He belongs in the 2nd.
Been hearing a lot about this guy...this is my first time watching him and honestly not impressed.
He wasn’t great at all in this game. 2019 was a lot better tho. He reminds me a bit of Josh Allen coming out of college. Small school, mobile, rocket arm, strong tough kid, can’t hit the broad side of a barn. If he goes to the right team and gets the right coaches around him, he has a lot of potential. But there is a lot of question marks.
Lance has all the tools to be successful but he’s really inexperienced, his mechanics are up and down, some of that might be from terrible coaching. If you watch some of the games last year the play calling is terrible, they don’t do him any favors to maximize his tools, looks like some high school play calling shit. He could be a great QB but he’ll for sure have to sit a full season. Which isn’t bad, Tyreek Hill said Mahomes looked like trash during his rookie season and that’s him averaging 55 attempts a game at Texas Tech. He worked out on his mechanics and he’s a superstar. Not saying Lance can be that. But if he can work on his mechanics and can be on a team that can maximize his tools and put players around him he could be a great QB.
Still waiting on WR Johnathan Adams Arkansas State. Great info tho on Trey Lance. He may in the right system be like Lamar Jackson 🔥
IF he looks like this now, think of how he will look in the nfl. He can play better but dont be fooled, this is part of his game.
The positives completely outweigh the negatives. He’s going top 10 in April.
He not going top 10 unless Seattle or Ravens are drafting a QB this year and neither team need a QB any time soon . He going 2 second round or later you can count on it .
@@achillesbryant4705 why would ravens or Seahawks be drafting top 10 and why would they be taking QB?
Based on this one video, he reminds me of Deshone Kizer, and I'm thinking maybe he should consider a RB career because he runs like a RB and not really like a scrambling QB. I hope the Vikings don't take him at #14.
He missed some throws probably just trying too hard for obvious reasons but his receivers dropped a lot of good balls not to mention the suspect O-line
Its worst than some bad throws! 90% of his passes from hash mark to hash mark, were either pickable passes, thrown behind, above or behind the receiver. dude cant read cover 2 looks to save his life.
@@dustinbarlow1623 same could be said about Sam Darnold, Mitchell Trubisky, Carson Wentz, Jared Geoff but they all were first round picks
@@southphillyspud31 I was never high on any of those guys, so there is always that. I guess that makes me consistent.
Covid made it almost impossible to get rythm, timing, and chemistry with his WRs. The team they plated for this 1 game season in 2020 due to covid already had like 3 or 4 games under their belt and NDSU couldn't even practice for a while leading up to that game. Everyone was rusty as fuck and Trey gained like 7 lbs of muscle and was trying to impress the scouts I think. Hence the overthrows.
I love how how his draft stock dropped so the 49ers can draft him 🙌🏽
49ers are desperate for a guard or center. With Richburg out they are awful. Interior line is the main priority imo. I don't think we go qb.
How you know 49ers going draft him? Shanahan and Lynch never look to draft 1st Rd QB. e.g. in 2017 took a bust DL over Watson or Mahomes. They like QB by committees. That's their MO.
😂😂😂 he isnt droping out of the top 10 bro fields lawrence and lance are all going in the top 10
🔥
I would not start him day one but would definitely have some packages for him to get on the field, talent is off the charts but not ready to start day 1
If your only looking at this one game and judging him of it instead of all of last season as well then joke is on you.
I look at his 2019 games in not impress . If he play like that in the nfl he will be on IR before week 7. He dont slide and when throwing on the run he inaccurate and missed a lot deep passes. Not to mention who the hell stand in the pocket flat footed in the nfl. He gonna get blown up
This game was the most important game of his career so I think it’s fair to judge him on what he is like in a high pressure situation
The kid is good yes he needs work so do the rest of the guys. This kid is a late round steal.
Lance hardly faced cover 2 looks his freshman year, and this entire game was to prove he can pass between the hashes which he didnt do at all last year, it was run and gun all year long his freshman season. When he was asked to make NFL throws, he couldnt do it. Even his first year he was a 54% completion QB, dude isnt that good. Cover 2 looks are gonna eat this kid alive. If this were Alabama, he would have thrown multiple pick sixes, and been intercepted at least 4 maybe 5 times. He is absolutely the worst mobile qb at throwing on the run I have ever seen. ITs gonna be easy as hell to jump routes when he is QB, he throws with his eyes before the snap even happens.
When this video started, I was asking myself, is this a highlight reel or how not to play quarterback!!!
@Davis Yep, I like these type of videos a lot more than "highlight" videos, which are usually nothing more than propaganda set to bad music. You could make any player look good with a compilation of just his best plays. I want to see the mistakes too.
my first Lance watch and no way this guy should be a top pick. he has a slow hinge throwing motion and doesn't seem to offer any redeeming intangibles to make him worth anything higher than a fourth rounder. i know this is just one game, but i really didn't see next level talent here.
i would like to see film of the whole game. What I liked. Good vision, looks off the defender, arm strength, reads defenses, athletic, footwork, short memory, high football IQ. What I didn't like sometimes throws behind his receiver when he should be leading him that alone cost his team several times including the pick. There where a couple of balls that where a little high, but still catchable. Can't say first rounder with this game, but he would be an upgrade over what several NFL teams have this year. Don't know if this game was an aberration given his 2019 season. If I where to go by his 2019 season he would probably be a middle to late first round early second round pick that's just my guess.
Strong and athletic. Seems to be better on play action and throwing on the move. Perfect for Shanahan's offense 👌
Ik this guy is going in the first round but i feel he’s going to be such a busy. He has little experience at the fcs level and every other fcs quarterback to come to the nfl has played for 3-4 years in college. He should’ve stayed to fill his eligibility. The NFL is going to hit this man hart
He needs more playing time this year. He’s rusty. He has one hell of an arm, and wheels, but his throws were way too much today. He tried too hard.
He should have stayed at NDSU for one more year. With this being the only game until spring he lowered his stock early on.
Arm talent there but he needs polish. Wide throwing base, tends to sail passes, and long throwing motion. Kinda reminds me of Kapernick. Strong arm, long throwing motion ..erratic mechanics. He's 2-3 round talent
Trey Lance would be a undrafted player if it wasn't for his running ability, which I don't think will translate to the NFL if you can't throw at the next level, also the competition(MVC) he's going against doesn't give me confidence either.
Who's here after he got drafted to the niners
im srry but he has a tonnnnn of issues and is super innacurate .. not worth the hype at all
the way he sits in the pocket looks so wonky and his throwing motion.
Cam Newton reincarnated. With good coaching, he could be great.
And where is Cam Newton now? Hahaha.

Trey Lance is most like Lamar Jackson. He will be a bust.
I just watched 10 minutes of Carson Wentz 🤣. Bad game
Carson Wentz is a top 5 QB. Unfortunately he had a high school JV team around him for the last 3 straight years and still set an NFL record for 4,000+ passing while ZERO of his WRs even had 500 yards receiving. And Wentz threw for 27 TDs that season to no namers. Last year Wentz was sacked 50 fucking times and his best receiver was called up from the practice squad. That's not on Wentz, he can't control the fact that 70% of his entire team was injured for the 3 years.
@@paidtourist6563 exactly the comparison their giving lance to is actually good. Wentz with a good oline is elite. Top 10 no doubt. Wentz going to prove all his doubters wrong now that he has a great oline. Doesn’t hurt that he gets a great coaching staff, top 10 defence and good weapons. This the best team his had since his mvp season
I dont see a good qb here
Any GM that takes this guy over fields should be fired. Lamar, Newton, are runners but where much better passers than Lance. So many inaccuracies, these runs aren't against top talent either....

More of a runner than a thrower

This is a nightmare scenario, how to go from potential high nfl pick to UDFA 101
He's definitely not going undrafted lol he'll still end up going in the 1st
Really hope Pittsburgh takes a chance on this kid. I'm not a fan of the Haskins signing at all. Good thing it's only a year. I think Lance has a TON of upside and potential!
Welcome to the Bay Area lil Homie🔥
IS TIM TEBOW A GOOD PRO COMP FOR LANCE?
Tebow was much more accurate. And he put up his numbers against SEC opponents.
He over threw so many open receivers
This dude is like a smaller Cam Newton...accuracy needs work but he’s a great athlete with a cannon
Derek Johansen or something I did but this is most recent and he had an off game so it’s a little alarming
What I see.
1) He only makes one read
2) He doesnt step up on the pocket
3) Every single between the hash mark throw, its either underthrown, overthrown, or behind the receiver
4) He doesnt process the field very fast
5) He gets scared in the pocket and has happy feet.
6) He misses wide open receivers down field by a country mile
7) He would rather run than throw
8) Doesnt have elite footwork or speed to make it work in the NFL
9) Threw multiple passes that would have been picked off, Pass that was broken up at the 4:24 mark would have been a pick six in the NFL.
10) Cover 2 looks give him serious trouble, which is not a good sign
11) For a mobile QB he is horrible at throwing on the run
12) Lives and dies off play action
13) NDSU passing attack was so bad in the short to intermediate range, that in the 2nd half they completely abandoned the pass and went to the run, Wont work in the NFL.
14) The true star of this team is the TE, he can catch and block, and is catching 90% of the passes that Lance throws.
He is not an NFL level QB, and if someone wants him, he is three years away from being ok enough to even see the field. He just flat out gets open.
I’m a huge Niners fan go faithful I pray every day they do not draft you kid. You call this a highlight reel you miss your first six throws
I'd say he's still Raw, his mechanics need work, but he is versatile and agile with a strong arm. I say the Washington Football team drafts him.
Reminds me of a young Kaepernick.
I said the something after watching his games . He gonna have to go somewhere with a team already built around him with a defense and solid run game with a little bit weapons at WR. A team like the Bears or Broncos .
This dude is not better than Justin Fields
I'm looking for the "good" tape on this kid... everyone keeps talking him up, but all I can find are designed runs and off-target throws... Was this his only game in 2020?
Because of COVID, North Dakota State only played one game in 2020. The rest of their games were moved to the Spring, so they are playing right now.

I see nothing impressive about Lance lol. If you want a Lamar Jackson clone then sure draft the kid. I'll take Fields all day long if I'm the niners
So we’re supposed to be impressed with this guy because he beat a no name school
A lot of potential here for sure. He's not NFL year one ready though. Didn't look like he had great pocket awareness, showed the Mitch Trubisky happy feet throwing mechanic and lacks touch on his deep ball.
But he's got a great arm, great size, great speed. I can see why he's a top 15 projected pick.
I would ignore this ONE game but in general 1 year starters should return to school. He will be #1 pick if he does, otherwise QB4 maybe even in late 1st this year.
I get he is young, but he can develop
You judged his draft stock off of 1 game? I get it, you're clueless, but you can develop common sense
Imo not ready for pro level yet. Needs another couple of years to develop his passing game
I don’t understand what the scouts see here. A wind-up thrower with erratic accuracy. He falls apart under pressure. I get he has “potential”, but you would hope there was at least a backup level floor to improve from.

from an unbiased perspective: has good arm strength and he can move around in the pocket and has ability to run in space. Reminds me of Cam Newton but not as good because he was overthrowing and making bad reads. Part of that could be attributed to his WRs not getting separation and him trying to do too much in a showcase game. If he can get his accuracy right, he could be a josh allen/ cam newton type of player. Difference is Cam was a lot more refined and proved himself against good competition. His first couple years in the league could be rough like josh allen, but given time he has potential

way too much pressure for him
Cuz he won't face any pressure in the NFL lol. Yeah not a good sign if this is how he plays under pressure.
North Dakota State only had one game scheduled for the Fall, which is why this game against Central Arkansas was hyped up more than most Power 5 games this past week. NDSU QB Trey Lance is considered a top NFL prospect & this one game was viewed as a showcase game for him to prove himself in front of scouts.
Lance didn’t have his best game, which left scouts with more questions than they had previously. He did show his talent, but looked shaky, which many expected since there was a lot of pressure in his one game of the season. He had 292 passing & rushing yards combined with 4 total TDs. Ultimately, Lance can still opt to play next year when NDSU starts their Spring season in February.
Stats: 15 COMP 30 ATT 149 Yards 2 TD 1 INT 15 Rush ATT 143 Yards 2 TD
JustBombsProductions nice
They say it looks like hes not ready yet still needs to develop as a passer. Do you think he should go back for one more year. Or steelers get him we have matt canada sit him behind big ben for 1 year and he can develop lol.
JustBombsProductions he seems like he could be on the bench for a bit and then come on in as a starter
@@stefan218 yeah thats what I think but of he goes to a team that just throws him outt there rookie year idk.
Right now, I can see him playing some games in February when NDSU begins their Spring season. If he does decide to play, he'd be skipping the Combine, which is fine because a lot of top QB prospects choose to throw at the Pro Days instead. I can't confirm anything, but I believe NDSU will give him the option to opt out at any time of the season if he would want to prepare for the draft after playing in a couple games.
