  • Helsinki, FINLAND - 1999 World Figure Skating Championships, Ice Dancing, Free Dance - Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat of France skated to music from the movie soundtrack, "Man in the Iron Mask." They were the audience's favorite, but not quite for the entire judging panel. They would be edged out by Krylova & Ovsiannikov for 1st Place in the Free Dance. That dropped Anissina & Peizerat from 1st to 2nd Place overall.
ABC Network broadcast with expert commentary from Dick Button and Peggy Fleming.

One of the greatest ice dances in the history of the World Championships. Absolutely moving and jaw dropping. Elegance beauty and drama in a perfectly packaged program.

Thank god for YT that I can watch this anytime lol. It's been 22 years but this program is still beautiful, passionate and emotional to watch like most of their programs. On Ice, they made such a beautiful and complete pair to watch one honestly one of the few Ice dance couples where both partners were equal in terms of skills and technique! Looking at most of their performances now when they were at the peak it's pretty amazing to see how many of their programs were and still are iconic like Marina lifting Gwendal. They are definitely gonna be included in Skating hall of fame one day! Honestly Marina and Gwendal are my all time favourite Ice dance couple next to Torvill and Dean.

It is one of the greatest programs in Ice Dance history. Even the great Yagudin couldn't quiet capture the theme of the movie as they did. But it was also one of these disgusting moments when even german commentators became unprofessional and tasteless individuals when saying that the Russians were better in both aspects and when they seriously said that my parents looked sarcastically at each other with sheer disbelief in their eyes.

Lol anyone with eyes and brain thinking this FD was lesser than the Russians is unbelievable. This is one of the greatest FD in ice dance history. The music, the steps, expression, the passion, romance, innovation, lifts, emotion, speed and drama this FD had it all and not to forget the chemistry of A&P made this FD a classic for me. I did see a comment saying the German commentators for some reason were mostly negative towards A&P programs? Is there any reason?

@@alien8855 I don't know but most germans in general have a quiet unconventional way of understanding art. That's also the reason why they produce so many bullshit movies that nobody wants to see. I guess they looked at A/P and thought: "Well, elegance isn't everything, is it?!" That's just going to show how narrow-minded one can think about figure skating as a subject.
