I am in no way a collector so I do agree 400 is steep! I will stick with my Original 940 with the green ano handles. Absolutely amazing knife.

They also have a “mini 940” in g10 I believe.... dunno if you’ve heard anything about that one
940 would really benefit from M4. It's a great hardwork design. I am pretty disappointed that for $400 they didn't even machine the original contours. I'll stick with the -2.

I got the OG 940 over the summer so I could replace my BM Freek that I gave to a friend..... very happy
I wish Benchmade would incorporate the coil spring into the rest of their models. They'd probably need to be redesigned but coil springs are so much less breaky
It’s a lot more expensive to produce (big reason why the anthem is so expensive and they don’t make it anymore... other reason was it being integral (not easy to produce) and materials used we’re not cheap)
@@shadowcastyt I'm not saying yo turn all the models into integrals. Just incorporate the coil spring in and get rid of omega springs
@@LUC.Knives I dunno how it would look if they didn’t do an integral.... they would almost have to screw it into a backspacer..... forget about it with barrel spacers

I'm happy with my standard 940 with flytanium scales.
I bought one of these and it’s absolutely gorgeous. The blade steel is just excellent. I really have no complaints, though some more intricate milling would have been nice on the scales.
But I am aware that I paid a HEFTY butterfly tax, when you look at what one can get in a Chris Reeve knife of the same price. But it’s nice to know I’ll probably never come across somebody else EDCing one. I kind of looked at the landscape of 940s available and I said “Well I’m only gonna get one, so which is the best?” Seems like this model is where the 940 peaks.
I’m super happy with it.

Just bought my first 940....Yesterday! I think I'll be passing on the Ti version since the G-10 suits me just fine....and I can still buy dinner. ;)

Beautiful knife, a bit knit picky here but Benchmade needs to change to flush mounted counter sunk screws on the pocket clips.
I carry my green 940 way more than I carry my 940-2001.....kinda been thinking about selling it to get another dpx hest urban

When you were showing the blade the camera was trying to focus the butterfly seemed menacing when the camera is trying to focus I like it.

I carry'd my 940-2001 today and indeed they are sweet.
Good looking knife but no way is that worth 400 there are some amazing knives in that price range thats hinderer money 😉

Looking through replies, I notice lots of comments toward value... materials and price, etc.
It is true that you can look at most Benchmade models and compare materials, execution and fit/finish as less than expected. The outcome is commonly that Benchmade are priced too high.
I absolutely agree with this. So many other manufacturers are outdoing Benchmade not only by materials and production, but the value from other manufacturers is so good that Benchmade is not able to keep up. Currently, no Benchmade has me convinced buying one would be a better value than 10 other companies products.
This model does NOT convince me to be a value purchase.

The blades are different shades because its different coatings all together. Cerakote and dlc totally different
The knifes color looks graphite to me. Beautiful knife, but I didn't even pay that much for my Benchmade Anthem or Contego; my only two Benchmade knives. If I buy another it will be the Super Freak, or Crooked River custom shop 🤔
I know this video is 2 years old but has the blade broken in yet? My axis lock gets stuck a lock and I believe it's because of the coating. Been flicking on and off all day and still getting stuck. Might have to do the graphite trick.

I’d love to know what the execs at Benchmade have been smokin’ to think an axis lock with its omega springs is worth CRK money.
Maybe $400+ for S90V ten years ago but, now you can pick up a S110V Manix2 for $175. And like you implied, the omega springs are a liability.
@@A.J.Collins Yup and although I’ve never had a problem with any of my Benchmade knives and their springs, the potential for failure is there that just doesn’t exist on a frame or liner lock.
@@MattP-BandB I have had a spring fail on my Emissary 470. I made the mistake of opening it up to try and repair it only to void the warranty. Benchmade won't sell me a replacement spring and I have not had much luck in making my own.
@@A.J.Collins Wow! That is amazingly horrible customer service. Try Etsy. If I were you, I’d never buy another Benchmade. After reading your post, I sure know I won’t.
@@MattP-BandB It was surprising to me too. I have looked on eBay and Etsy for aftermarket springs but have not found a vendor for the 470.
Hear me out now..... crk, hinderererererer, Medford all cand be bout around there used. New shell out another 50-100. Now I like the 940, but I love my inkosi. I dont see myself getting it over a hinderererererer or crk.

Note: my Super Freek had no coating on the pivot, nor where the lock bar touches at the spine. It was very far off center until I worked on it. Also, the Super Freek blade is Cerakoted and not DLC.
I got the 2001 and -1 serrated. Higher end 940's just hit different 🥴
The original 940 is considered a huge end knife already

Sweet looking knife...if I had the $ I would scoop it up.
Tempting but even as much as I love s90v in a small edc I would rather a run of like m4 or if they would use something even more exotic per say like k390 or s390 would be up there with the grail edc blades
As much as I do like this version, Benchmade is ripping their collectors. It's these instances that keep me from being a fan boy. Had they invested time in contouring the scales, like flytanium replacements for example, it might be worth the price. S90 is more common these days, DLC coating is more common and its just not worth the current 403 at DLT.
Bash me for saying all that, im only pointing out what is facts in Oct 2020 knife world. $300 with contoured scales is much more of a catch.

My 940-2001 was 340 so the extra must be for the dlc

Yall bitching about the price but have you ever gotten a quote to get a set of scales DLC coated? I was quoted $265 just to dlc coat a set of benchmade 9400 auto scales. It is alot of cash but shit is expensive. I gladly spent the $400 and will enjoy it every time I pull it out of my pocket.
Isn’t the $400 only threw Benchmade ? Threw the dealers it’s probably going to be around $360 ? Still a steep price tag, but seen the 940-2001 sell from $450 all the way up to $700 on EBay.
It's $475 on the Benchmade site. DLT has it listed as.coming soon at $403. And yes... People NEVER think about resale when they make comments. This will be worth a lot more on the secondary that your average CRK. It's a limited addition and there are crazy Benchmade collectors out there.
@@SliceyDicey Yes exactly people who collect Benchmade Knives have no problem spending whatever it takes to get one. I was thinking it was the same price as the 940-2001 which was $399 I believe threw Benchmade. The price increase must be the coating they did, but I’m still definitely going to try to get one I missed out on the 940-2001 which I kind of like a little better, but I do like them both. I just have to control myself from buying anymore knives until the 27th. Because I just bought 2 Hinderer’s, I was lucky enough to grab one of the Bowie XM-18’s from USA Made Blade and I bought one of the DLT exclusive spear point blades with the fuller on EBay.
Anyway always a pleasure watching your reviews and thanks for the release date on the the Benchmade 👍🏼

Sweet blade but absurd price. No where close to a Hinderer, Sebenza, Strider, Medford, etc... anything over $400 o rather save and get one of those great blades. Just ridiculous.

I'm willing to excuse the price of Benchmade's CF/S90V knives, largely due to the cost of S90V. I was also willing to excuse the price of the Anthem, because of the integrated handle design and fit and finish (although even that probablyshould have been S90V).
Having said that, while this is obviously worth more than the CF 940-1, its definitely not worth Anthem money. $350-375 would have been a much more acceptable ($375 for the special edition, and $350 for a production version).

600 grit wet/dry and a half hour with the blade and thumbstuds out and my super freek looks way better

$400 is not too much to spend on a knife. I’ve spent plenty more. However, $400 for a regular axis lock and some plain titanium scales is flat out ludicrous

Am I the only one that thinks the 940 blade sucks? It's too thick, too short and not a full flat grind, and just not thin enough behind the edge. Of all the knives I've owned it was the worst one at actually cutting things. The action was great, pocket size was great, ergos were fine. It just didn't cut well. If they did a hollow grind version I wouldn't be anxiously waiting for the next Quietcarry Waypoint haha.
