I was a Leopard 1 driver from 1977 to 1980 in Leopoldsburg Belgium with 2L
I used to drive the Leopard1 25 years ago when it was still in service by the German army in some capacity. It’s actually fun to drive. But the biggest drawback compared to the Leopard2 when it comes to driving is that it‘s not as balanced. Its tipping point is two thirds down the tank, so it’s tail-heavy. What I mean is, when you drive over a bigger wave in ground two thirds of the tank hang in the air before it tips forward and you can accelerate again. If you are not careful it’ll get painful for everyone involved. The Leopard2 on the other hand tips in the middle. That gives it the possibility to go over the waves at an angle without slowing down. That’s why good Leo2 drivers go about in a serpentine pattern.
The Leopard 1 was used by the Danish Army and units were sent to Tuzla in 1994 as a part of UN. They fought with great succes in Operation Bøllebank
I bet they did. Nordic battalion had seven Leopard 1's with late 80's ammo and modernization, implemented just a few years prior, against three T-55 with no upgrades to speak of, 50's technology in bad shape, oil dripping on the drunken Serb tank driver's head while turning the turret 😄

*Leopard 1 was not replaced in service with Leopard 2 in 2003.
In 2003 Leopard 1 had its final vehicles phased out of service.
Replacement as core of the armored formations was from 1978-1984.
After the introduction of Leopard 2 in larger numbers in 1983, the Leopard 1 was removed as core formation MBT and used as Mobile Gun System / Tank Destroyer in the Panzergrenadier Formations (mechanised infantry) and also as heavy recon vehicle in the armored recon units

Stamina and other things are unknown because he has never felt combat. And to look timeless for the mid-60s of the last century !

There is Canadian Forces report that says Canada's Leopard 1 tanks required one sixth as much maintenance per hour of service as Canada's Leopard 2 tanks.
Hope they can slap on some ERA on it just to add more protection.

on the balkan after the war as part of the KFOR, in Afghanistan with IFOR etc.

Ukraine soldiers have complained the 105mm cannon shell of German Leopard 1 tank is not able to penetrate T72 tanks and so they ask South Korea to supply the most powerful South Korean 105mm shell to penetrate the 550mm defence steel of the T72.

it won't be happy 2 see T80 T90 but in the right circumstances it will knock anything out
The L7 gun has just been chosen by the USA for there light tank .... infantry support tank so they know more than we do that it will bo the job
the M68A1E4, wich is a derivate of the L7 but rated for higher chamber pressures etc

the problem with that is, that with exception of Greece and Turkiye bascly all users in europe have replaced it with leopard 2 in the late 90´s - 2000´s.
There are not that many around anymore. (around 800 in turkish and greek service and both wont deliver anything, plus maybe 300 in storage of several countries in bad condition due to 10+ years of storage)

However, the material used to make the t62's armor is less effective in resisting attacks compared to the material used to make the Leopard 1's armor. and many others but I'm too lazy to explain it to u. all in all u don't know what u're talking about, u only know leopard 1 based on wot game
@@eveajah21 I am not a wot player. I am aware of those information but the tank will face T-72 ,T-80,T-90 and ATGM so they are obsolete. L7 based gun is also not enough even with the latest 105 mm NATO ammunition. So it is not a MBT in this era same as T54. I personally consider those as medium tanks. We may see a high number of destruction of Leopard 1 in Ukraine same as T72.
Hopefully, such tanks will be finally provided to Ukraine 🇺🇦 for the faster liberation 🙏🏻

@@bowman3431 Leo 1 will be used mainly as an IFV or APC (which is better than BMPs and BTRs), will not be used as an MBT like a Leo 2.
