  • House Sparrow Feeding Babies, The House Sparrows survive only in the immediate vicinity of people. The House Sparrow prefers to nest in man made structures such as eaves or walls of buildings, street lights, and nest boxes instead of in natural nest sites such as holes in trees. Wow...that momma bird seemed quite undecided as to which baby bird to feed first...and the other two appeared as if crying, once she chose to give the food to “the first of her triplets” LOL 😂...so very cute!

HAHAHA silly human, that male sparrow is protecting their home, they are fierce fighters, in the wild they have many enemies that would gladly eat those little chicks, but the male will fight to the death before that happen.

I had many of them in my yard a long with cardinals and some chickadees. I bought food for them, but noticed that the cardinals were gone and the sparrows stuck around and even had nest around my area, but when I took my baby out for her morning stroll I saw a dead male sparrow. Near the best they had set up. Which was close to the food and water I provided. I think a stray cat to them. Since we have been trouble with them. I think one of my neighbors trapped the cats and took them to a shelter. I'm so sad for the bird though. It has been pretty quiet. I get a couple of birds come by, but not like before. I wonder if there is a cat or something somewhere that is making them stay away. I have suet, mealworms, and mixed seeds with water. So there must be something in not noticing. Well I guess is back to figuring out what is causing them not to come by. Maybe I need to place some birdhouses with guards on them to stop other predators from chewing on the wood.

Contented. Except that is a Martin house. But you don't see any Martin's because the aggressive sparrows have either killed them or scared them off.

It is possible, usually they are kinda monogamous, but sometimes they have more than one couple, females also sometimes mate with more than one male... not so different than humans, aren't they?

Anyone who watches this video needs to be aware of the true nature of English Sparrows (also called House Sparrow, or HOSP). These birds are non-native, invasive species in all parts of the world, but the United Kingdom. They were released in North America in 1851. This species is very aggressive and dominating over native species of birds and they excel at outcompeting natives for food and breeding resources. They prefer to breed in cavities which means they target native species such as bluebirds, wrens, titmice, chickadees, nuthatches, and purple martins. Often times they will overwhelm a pair of natives with force, including killing the native birds to usurp the cavity. House sparrows should not be regarded as benign in your backyard landscape and should be deterred if not fully eliminated. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has many resources available to learn more.

There's nothing more irritating than the incessant racket from a male sparrow. And this mess is what you get when you put up a Martin house and end up with a bunch of sparrows.
