I actually use this type of setup almost from chapter 2 season 3. I use left button to place and right button to select edit + edit on realease, but my double edits aren't as fast as yours. When you hold left click after an edit it instantly builds but it seems like you still counted on more click for every edit; is there something I missed or didn't understand ? Isn't it supposed to be 4 keystrokes for non eor ?
Yes, I see the same thing. It makes no difference for non EOR style in terms of the number of key strokes. Splitting "placing build" and "choosing edit" between two fingers can be useful in other ways but that's a different cause.
I have played on kbm for one month and im wondering how ppl can build and edit so fast. This is so smart. Why are people keeping this a secret, this video should get at least 1 mil views

I don't have a spare button to use. All the other buttons i have are either too far away or make extremely difficult to walk sneak jump etc could you help me ?
Yes, that's the same thing. I place builds with the right one, and edit with the left one, or vice versa. You can practically duplicate the bindings for both buttons and it works.
Hey Sly Jack, hopefully you see this comment because this has been tormenting me for some time now. I've been doing what was described in the video since I started playing. The thing is, sometimes when in edit mode AND holding down my "place building" button, my "select edit" button doesn't allow me to select any tiles. The only way to be able to edit is then to exit edit mode and re-wnter it. It's super weird and I don't know how to replicate it yet, but this happens in about 1 in 10 edits and it is really holding me back. Any insights?

As of now, you can bind "place build" for both left and right mouse button, do exactly the same for "select edit", and you build with the one and edit with the other at any time, and vice versa. After some time you will find out which button suits you for which operation better. The point is you save one click for you do not have to release (and re-click) the building button if you want to start editing, which you would have to do if it was the same button.

edit: although this help for whatever reason i dont know why, using it doesnt help, i feel the delay and everything else is better but using the other keybind itself doesnt help
I actually got a footpedal for this very thing, since i just gotta keep my foot on the pedal when I am building xD
it's incredibly powerful
😆
You are the man, was struggling to pick a bind and remembered I had a footpedal in my closet when I seen this. Works great
I'm using the side mouse buttons for stairs and floors what key should I use instead of those
most used is right click, but some ppl rest the beginning of their pinky on control while building which works (ig)
Nice and short explanation of this lovely trick
I switched to Select Tile on Right Click, right when Edit on Release came out. I am still playing with it since.
Hey Slyjack do you ever run into the auto shoot bug if so how do you work around it?
Yea, I actually reported it to epic and they confirmed it so it should be fixed soon.
I rarely run into it, but for now I just take out my gun BEFORE the last edit, instead of after. It's better to do that in general anyway, so that your gun is ready to shoot asap
@@Sly-Jack i have that shoot glitch a lot.
Been doing this for 2 years and i can vouch for this. I'm from Vietnam and play on 100 ping and i can still box 0 ping players
How do you do this
The drawback is that you have to use one of your sidebuttons, i have wall and ramp on there so it wont work for me right?
Right mouse button?
It’s what I’m trying I’m in your shoes
I changed ramp to a different button
What bind do you recommend putting place build on?
I have stair and wall on both my mouse buttons the floor on E and cone on Q
I actually use this type of setup almost from chapter 2 season 3. I use left button to place and right button to select edit + edit on realease, but my double edits aren't as fast as yours. The only downside is that even though you hold turbo building all the time you still can preedit the wall. It happens because you press edit button while the wall/floor/cone/stair is in moving animation. It annoys me, but maybe it's because I play on 60hz monitor. I wish epic games would fix this bug one day.
You can turn pre edits off in settings…
@@bradwilson5483 But the thing is I want to use pre edits, It would be nice if they counted mid animation edit towards the actual build if you're already holding build button.
just turn off pre edits its so worth t
Yo man thx for ur content keep going ur the best❤
Ya this is one of the reasons that Brux the fastest editor in the game can build so fast. Also notluc used to do it also.
I just got back in the the game after a huge break and this helped a lot
if you have edit on release off you can edit withought letting go of left click, say your editing a cone and need to place the wall you can press f press and hold left click press f again and swtich to wall it places just as fast
2:00 How do you reset a pre edited build while having no space?
i changed my place building as caps since my pinky doesn't do much while building and it feels smooth as ever
After 5 years of playing fortnite and whatching a good amount of good videos that show "tips" finally i find something insane helpful, thanks a lot for sharing! one of the best fortnite channel for sure
bro i have been using left click place and right click select since chapter 2 season 3 and it is the best by far raider made a tweet about it mid chapter 2 season 1 and virtually no one switched to it and
The other way round may be even better for if you hold a build with the middle finger, you can scroll to reset edit with your index finger. If you use scroll this way.
@Sly-Jack how do you edit-swap with these settings? Been using your settings for a while but I don't have a great solution for edit swapping.
for the last 4 years i never would have thought of this. thank you for the tip and i thank sypherpk for showing me your channel. this 50 y/o is about to finally triple edit ty
can you do this while having build pieces on your side mouse buttons?
depends on which side button and which side button you are allready using, it more depends on your own personal confort
i’ve tried to do this in the past but it is just so hard to get used to
Hello, I am very curious and do not understand something. Where do you count so much inputs with default settings ? When you hold left click after an edit it instantly builds but it seems like you still counted on more click for every edit; is there something I missed or didn't understand ? Isn't it supposed to be 4 keystrokes for non eor ?
Yes, I see the same thing. It makes no difference for non EOR style in terms of the number of key strokes. Splitting "placing build" and "choosing edit" between two fingers can be useful in other ways but that's a different cause.
Bro is crazy I just changed it 20min ago and my edits already feel better and smoother ❤❤❤
I have played on kbm for one month and im wondering how ppl can build and edit so fast. This is so smart. Why are people keeping this a secret, this video should get at least 1 mil views
goat man, it really helped, after 2 weeks ive adapted :)
thnx man is been a month that i use this tip and it helped me a lot
Well, i just have my build and edit buttons on both left and right click, so i can switch buttons on my mouse which i saw instant improvements in my build and edit speeds.
Hello Sly Jack . Edit for half a decade , if not a little more , with L3 and I select building edit and place building with the R2 for 7 years now , what should YOU think I shoudl change into so I can edit even moore easier and faster cuz according to u I ll press less input making me essentially faster
sly jack how do you even come up with this stuff, like this is some insane thinking to figure this out
thre issue is when i do this and edit while turbo building is held aswell it makes my gun shoot uncontrollably
hey Sly Jack Idk if you'll see this comment but I been editing with default settings on Fortnite since I started and got comfortable with using G to edit I only tweak the edit on release and my sens settings. do you think editing on G is bad I still use zxcv to place builds too Idk if changing could make me better please lemme know if you see this.
What is recommend if you are trying to figure out what button to set it to I recommend right mouse button
Is it worth learning the u ramp and how lang did it took u to Master it?
Whats the u ramp? The cone clip?
I learned this from reisshub but there is one downside, if you switch to your shotgun before letting go of your edit confirm button you'll be stuck in ADS
Note: just realized that this is only if your ADS and edit confirm buttons are the same
So I did this but It kept making my gun shoot by itself and I didn't understand why. Well I figured out how it actually happens if you hold your builds out hold right click jump and mantle on a wall with out letting go of right click your gun/pickaxe will start shooting by itself but this doesn't make any sense since none of the binds correlate since fire is on left click idk why this bug exist. Does this happen to anyone else?
yes i have the same problem
@@lionlehmann9887 I don't think this will ever be fixed because not enough people know about this glitch and because it effects such a small community of people but even with this glitch I still use right click to build the benefits out weigh it for sure and now that I know how it happens its easy to avoid
@@poey1748 I have the same problem, just to clarify, it happens when holding the build button then mantling? Because It has happened to me without mantling
yes but if you just spam left click it goes away fast no?
@@puckog8693 yeah it does, I've figured that out recently
i've both my mouse buttons used for builds and i don't plan to change them. Where should i bind it to then?
did you find any new binds for this ?

@@Speedmunk funny af dude
This is good but you’ll have to sacrifice other binds you previously had on your side mouse button
I don’t understand how you reset the pre-edited wall without an empty space… could you explain that. I have place build on m1 and m2 and select edit on m1, eor on.
Yea, so like looking at 2:12. You grab the pre-edit, then go and place builds while still holding the pre-edit. Then you scroll wheel to reset the pre-edit. You don't have to be looking at the pre-edit to reset it
Kind of confusing to type, let me know if that was a clear explanation or not
@@Sly-Jack How is it that you can grab pre-edit tiles, with your wall bind out without starting an edit sequence on the already built wall? Also, after you place a pre-edited wall, how do you avoid resetting the placed pre-edited wall, I'm guessing you let go of "place build" but wouldn't it grab the pre-edited wall when you try to reset?
@@Sly-Jack ya i think it would have been good to mention when you pressed reset in the video verbally
@@Sly-Jack I'm trying the separate place bind and I can't figure out the pre edit thing either
do u ever have a problem with pre-editing already placed walls instead of editing them?
It's a high ping thing, just disable pre-edit in the settings
My edits have many problems. A lot of times when I edit, the edit doesn't get registered at all and the edited part edits some millisecond after releasing the key. For the unregistered edits i tried recording and analysing the frames, and It's not about me getting the edit wrong, It's just the game not recognising It, I don't know how to fix this... Help?
hey, hoping you see this and can answer a small question, I find when I place my cone to double edit up and im not going for a triple edit with a wall what happens is by holding shift the whole time I end up coning my self. its probably a really simple fix but im kind of a noob whos trying to get mechanical so im on this hump of figuring these small things out, any tips?
This happens to me also. What I do now is that i don t press shift (cone keybind), i just click once while pressing left buttton on the mouse. Also, you have to aim higher so that you dont build a cone too close to you.
on controller, what would place building be and what could i change it to? isnt it like l1 l2 r1 r2? im confused
what part can't you follow that this is already used for controllers.
Yeah but if I hold down the side mouse button my builds are sloppy because I’m holding it down so I can’t place everything that I want to in time
Basically to get better at edits is just one click on your mouse not like three times to get the edit
0:19 What were those extra pink icons by your build binds on the bottom right? Is this a custom server or dev build or something?
Btw love your informative vids, you're very knowledgeable and I love when you drop vids like these. Thank you so much for the knowledge 👊
Btw about to watch your new video after this.
*Edit:* oh yeah I've been doing this ever since getting on PC/MnK last year! Except I use left click to place builds, right click to edit. Love just holding down one button and being able to tunnel without repeat clicking.
Except I have a bug ever since then where occasionally I come out of an edit auto "ADS'ing" and I have to click right click again to come out of it.
Any benefit (other turn that bug) to have edit as my left click instead? And right click as my place build?
I really don't wanna relearn muscle memory but if I remember correctly, the index finger *is* the fastest (and rn im spamming edits with my middle finger on M2 button).
What do you personally think?
Then you'll just shoot automatically i think. Fortnite is coded by new-born chimpanzees so don't think they'll fix the bug anytime soon. :/
TYSM THIS HELPED ALOT
i don get it what difference does it make?
Why is not working for me when i put side mouse button for select building edit? Also please show how you do the keybinds for yourself maybe will help us

he sprints with the spare?
Guys is that good a have my sellect a building edit keybound is on my right mouse button?
Yes, that's the same thing. I place builds with the right one, and edit with the left one, or vice versa. You can practically duplicate the bindings for both buttons and it works.
is right click a good option for this

Hey Sly Jack, hopefully you see this comment because this has been tormenting me for some time now.
I've been doing what was described in the video since I started playing.
The thing is, sometimes when in edit mode AND holding down my "place building" button, my "select edit" button doesn't allow me to select any tiles. The only way to be able to edit is then to exit edit mode and re-wnter it. It's super weird and I don't know how to replicate it yet, but this happens in about 1 in 10 edits and it is really holding me back.
Any insights?
Try changing place building or select edit buttons on separate key binds. I think your issue is happening because they are on the same key bind.
I just set place build to right click and I can just hold it down as I’m building and editing
This was a "secret" keybind from long time ago like 2020's fortnite pro era, i think Bugha has talked about it couple of times of the benefits of using it but ended up being a thing that is unknown for most players that play comp. It's really a useful tip.
I was thinking tho, it's there a most "optimal" keybind to hold like a "turbo building key" instead of a button mouse? I've never get used to. 🤔
use right click bro and to change bulding material use a lateral mouse bind, if you have 2 on both sides of the mouse you can change the bind of one of the buttons you dont normally use {ex right mouse buttons if you ARE NOT lefty) to a random keyboard button and use it for fortnite
@@lim4a yeah i’ve tried that bind and yes im leftie but doesn’t go to the case haha. The problem with that bind is: yes, right click is good, but it mess with ADS/ Aim with scope and its very annoying. Did u tried it?

Any advice for what to bind to if I am using my mouse side buttons as builds?
@DansterM thx
I was playing yesterday and decided to switch to controller for the time being just because of the faster editing
I use my middle mouse button, c with thumb, mouse button 5 and left shift for builds. And confirm edit on mouse button 4 cause triple edit binds which is just double edit binds with scroll wheel reset what would you recommend cause i dont really have free fingers to hold builds maybe roght mouse buttton but i were to get use to that i would move my middle mouse button build to right click cause of how much easier it is what would you recommend
how do people use middle mouse button
@@matthiasmcauley4819 can u not press down ur scroll wheel?
My biggest problem is that editing has an extremely long delay
My ping is ususally between 30ms and 40ms but whenever i edit the editing animation is so long that if i try to do a double edit through the floor and cone i can edit the floor but then there's a 0.5s delay before i can edit the cone which makes double edits extremely hard and triple edits absolutely impossible
