Ms Battle sings with a brilliant clarity and richness of tone! Her diction is remarkable and she navigates the melodies with dedication and seemingly with ease! One can feel the delight that she has in delivering her extraordinary gift!

I love everything about Kathleen Battle's singing. It's all there--the tone, the technique...but what I especially appreciate is her interpretive skill. It doesn't matter whether it's a virtuosic cadenza from a bel canto opera, a spiritual or a simple art song, it's always beautiful and you always feel the emotional impulse of the music.

No You are right about her voice but she was a real pain to work with. The MET fired her.

@@ttrons2 Dozens of classical performers were often described as being "a real pain to work with", including Pavoratti, Callas, Gheorghiu, etc., yet they are all still celebrated as great artists. One firing from the very LAST major opera house on the entire planet to "allow" Madame Leontyne Price to display her magnificent talents certainly does not define the long and brilliant career of Kathleen Battle!

Is her sliding to pitches chosen? And how well does it fit the period as well?

It's part of her interpretive skill, with full knowledge of the prevailing styles of the period, which she would have studied in depth as part of her (long) training.

I think it is better suited to a counter tenor voice

That first one, no--it pretty much has to be sung by a woman, because "make us seek ruin" pretty much only applied to women.

I like diversity, but is ok to like just countertenors too :)
