Thank you for reviewing this film for us, Christian parents, who don't want to expose our kids to sexual related subjects of any kind, and don't want to be "surprised" by the fact when it is already in front of our kid's eyes.

You’re welcome! Glad it was helpful. As a parent of two kids, I know the frustration of some of those unwanted surprises.

IF was surprisingly good! Went last night for my 21st birthday with my younger siblings. I went in expecting it to be a cute little family movie but was pleasantly surprised by how warm, sweet, funny, imaginitive and surprisingly poignant this movie was! Then again, this IS a John Krasinski film, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that his film pulled at my heartstrings as both Quiet Place films made me cry! I agree that the multiple misuses of God's name were surprising and unnecessary, but other than that, I didn't find anything objectional in the film and that was a wonderful surprise.
(Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen the film) I absolutely loved the twist at the end! Calvin (Ryan Reynolds) being an IF was so clever and it was only when his apartment was shown void of anyone living in it did I put all the clues together and sit there my jaw dropped open! It was very much like the Sixth Sense where you suddenly realize that no one in the film other than the child has interacted with this adult male character! Just what a great twist!

Glad you enjoyed it! I've been super impressed with Krasinksi's filmmaking so far. He definitely knows how to pull on the heart strings!
As far as the ending, (spoiler alerts) I actually picked up on the twist right from the start, and once you noticed, it becomes super obvious that he doesn't interact with anyone but her. The only thing I wasn't sure about was if he was her IF or her father's. But even knowing the twist, it still works as an emotional reveal at the end. Overall, an enjoyable movie!

Dang, man! You picked up on it right away!? You have a good eye! That's awesome! Yeah, the movie was good and the scene where Calvin hugged Bea was so sweet and emotional! Man it was good!

The Lord's name is taken in vain so many times in this movie! It seems so out of place, too. We expect that in our world, but it seems so out of place in a children's/family movie. You are right on about it being baffling that they put that in movies.

It's become more and more common in family/children's films and it's so unnecessary. It's top bad too, because other than that language, I think there is a lot to like about this film.

I strongly believe the Lord would not agree with this. Imaginary creatures, that speak to children. Sigh…this isn’t for Christians.

Obviously follow your own convictions, but I don't see anything in Jesus teaching truths almost exclusively through metaphors and imaginative stories that would suggest that people-created in His image-are somehow prohibited from doing likewise. I couldn't disagree more that the imagination is somehow a secular/atheist thing and not something Christians should embrace, enjoy, and learn from. .

As a Christian, I perfectly understand your point: imaginary friends are not a Christian thing; it can actually mean the complete opposite. But it also can be a product of a kid's imagination. It is a fine line for parents to be vigilantes. In my opinion, I would say that this subject is OK to watch with kids that can understand the difference, those that are aware of the spiritual world and won't be confused to feed on the idea of talking to "an imaginary friend." Those are NOT friends, I would tell them. In the case of small children, I would say, it is for parents to judge based on how close they are to their kids, how Holly are the members of the family, and more importantly, how capable you think your child may be to stop the behavior if suddenly you surprise him/her talking to "an imaginary friend." Pray for directions directly from the Lord. His advice surely will be better than mine. God bless you.

@@maggief1095 one question what if the cartoons were real?

Hold on, mate. So you're claiming we SHOULDN'T use our God-given imaginations? Where in the Bible does it say anything even CLOSE to that? Imaginary friends and imagination in general are very important to a child's cognitive development, and the Lord clearly designed it that way for a reason! I am a Christian and I had three imaginary friends growing up! I don't think I'm going to get to heaven and God is going to be shaking a finger at me for having imaginary friends and using my imagination. What's next, are you going to condemn Narnia and LOTR for being fantasy and imagination driven, because those were both written by Christian authors and are clearly harmless! Relax! Imagination is a wonderful, GOD-GIVEN thing!
