No, He is a Musical genius. We never put race on musicians, the public does that non-sense. This is why we musicians see ourselves as having a gift to share with the whole family of musicians. That’s why BB King can share with Elvis Presley, or Quincy Jones introducing and writing for Frank Sinatra, Lionel Richie writing a Grammy winning album for Kenny Rogers, etc. Please don’t refer to musicians as Black, White, Indian, Asian, or Native. We are in the great family of people gifted by God as Musicians.
I thank the Most High that he allowed me to come along in the area when this type of music was being created .When all black folks wanted to do was sit back in the basement smoke a few joints and let the music take you to the cosmos .
I had the hardest time finding out who made this back when it came out. Heard it on the radio, and of course, the stupid dj never identified the song or artist. I suspected it was LLS, but of course, the word Renaissance is never used in the song, so i couldn't be sure looking at the song titles on the album. As an 18 year old college student who was short on money, I really didn't want to gamble and be wrong. The clerks in the record stores were no help, so I broke down and took a chance and bought the album, and my suspicions were correct. Thank goodness!
listened to this song while I was going through some of life's changes and challenges. it helped me out superbly. GOD and music saved and soothed this savage beast. PACO.
1975 -- Attending Cal-State University; driving my '75 TR6 thru Oakland with the top down around Lake Merritt; listening to this song on KBLX, KRE Berkeley. Life was good and easy. Golden State Warriors just won their first NBA Championship; Oakland A's World Champs. The Bay Area was a hot-bed of social activity -- hippies in San Francisco, Black Panthers keeping it real in Oakland. Everyday was an adventure ...
I had a 1970 Spitfire back in the 72 and it was joy driving around on the Harlem River Drive. Sometimes I would smoke a joint and take off......driving with care.
I remember when I got this LP back in 1976, it was actually given to me by a friend who made the rounds to radio stations to promote new LPs from I believe it was Epic Records, I remember listening to it with a tight group of friends and we all fell in love with the entire album...41 years later and it still feels like yesterday...classics never go away!
RCA Records, as Lonnie and the Cosmic Echoes had just left Flying Dutchman Records. Later, they moved to Columbia records. I don't think this album was ever released on CD, and I'm not sure about iTunes. I saw them play a few times, and saw Lonnie when he was the keyboard player for Pharaoh Sanders. Lonnie's bass player in those days was Al Anderson. Monster player. Grooves.
I love this song when I was a kid, later growing up I wanted this song so badly and now here it is. Thanks to whoever put this song up reminds me of a simpler time.
Excuse me while I drift away. Mr. Smith has that effect on me. SO FREE. RENAISSANCE. It's as if I was in the room as he recorded this. Thx for sharing. & thx to L.L.S for blessing us w. this.
He has left his mark. Lonnie never disappoints! His music to me us timeless. If I see old age, I bet Lonnie will be in my CD player!! Bet! Thx for posting.
I was just entering 6th grade, my big sister’s boyfriend played Lonnie religiously...his music lives on in m heart like nostalgia that will live on inside me until the day I die. He is my cosmic soul traveler...
I graduated 1975...found this whole genre of Music....This would take U on a carpet ride and its content was earth shattering. I found and explored All musicians, Still one of my favorites!
1977 West Virginia State College / May Weekend opened with locals,Ebony and the Greek - headliners, Lonnie Liston Smith jammed that whole Renaissance album on the " yard " that night with his brother on lead vocals and flute. That was my 2nd concert after seeing - The Jimmy Castor Bunch and Brass Construction.
The first time I heard this song was back in the 70s, on the jazz station KADX, in Denver Colorado, i went right out and bought it on 8 track. Still sounds wonderfull in 2019.
My foukeen god, there's so much music made in the last 40 decades, absolutely gordeous, well-made rythms, all the music of lonnie smith, marco di marco, ahmad jamal, electronic butterflies... Maybe 'cause i'm 30 yrs old and i like all this music.
I was so young when this song came out. When I figured out this was Lonnie listen Smith I was really pleased. As I became an adult I became a huge fan!!!! There is one more song I really love by Lonnie Listen Smith the song is A Lover's Dream if You Tube can get permission rights again please!!!!! put that song back on You Tube!!!!!
2019 yes! I'm still here, moving slowly to the smooth undulating river this tune creates, though time like this tune, continues to stream through our hearts and mind -- SO BE IT
Unbelievable! Remember the saying “I Found It”. Whew. This album and this song is so hard to find now days. I used to kick this on the turntable after lighting a joint. 76” I advanced to an addiction of another substance. I’m 35 yrs.C &S . This song is more relevant now , than it was then. Uplifting , conscious raising, beautiful and fist pumping. The word Transformation is stirring around in my mind. “And You Wonder Why You are One of so Few”
2021 May the frequency of this sound permeate the minds of youth, so as to impower them, to complete the mission of human ascension in the coming millennia. A Renaissance, A Cosmic Echo, A Garden of Peace. TOTAL TRANFORMATION -- SO BE IT

Never heard music that could sooth the soul like this and so many other Lonnie tunes. Met him on a boatride he was playing on in NYC. Thought I died and went to heaven. Craziest thing, he talks the way his music sounds, ethereal!! By the way, Donald is one of the most underrated singers of all time. Check out Starlight And You!
