Ive actually heard of a couple other channels, that youtube corrupted the audio when uploading, this week.
The wrecker would be a "Game Changer" if you had bought it and it worked good. Being something that you dreamed up and built from the ground up is something really special.
I love the customers mom (I assume) taking a shot at him at the meat up. "I'm not taking my car up where it doesn't belong. I'm not stupid." 😂. Classic mom move.

There are geodic-shaped garnets all over the top of that mountain…just laying out on top of the soil. Very cool place. The kids love it out there. Bring water and a chipping hammer.

I’ve been watching the channel for 3 years now …. This was the best video … it was just a day with the boys working … this channel just makes us feel apart of the team in a way
For those the enjoy things like the History Channels Mega Machines and Modern Marvels these episodes make perfect sense. The video doesn't have to be filled with barely getting the job done because the right tool isn't available and ingenuity and instinct are the only concepts present. These videos are satisfying in there own right. A bit like Diesel Brothers having access to so much equipment, the task is to figure out what NOT to bring.
I drove a conventional tow truck for years. I found planning before you arive to be a waste of mental energy. In my experience of venturing into the unknown in the dark to rescue a stuck vehicle, concentrating on things that are not happening yet can be detrimental. Most of my off road jobs were solo eddorts out of cell service and atention had to be payed to not being stuck myself 😂 14:51

Funny how the channel has come full circle. Started as Winder towing and Matt would explain how he liked a light vehicle with NO winches and now it is the heaviest vehicle with multiple winches. He keeps adding to his tool bag. Made it look easy.
As much as I like the Banana and the Morrvair, I love seeing you finally getting to use the wrecker. That rear steer makes a huge difference.
As an (amateur) off-roader, I have zero problem watching easy recoveries.
I love seeing a properly equipped team do their job like it's another day in the office.
Personally, that tells me they know what they're doing and they're comfortable doing it.

I’ve enjoyed watching the evolution with Matt’s techniques over the years.
In the beginning he didn’t have even one winch and didn’t think they were needed.
Now the Off Road Wrecker has 8 of them!
The rescues have become more precise. Although, there was a lot of entertainment watching them get things done with the same equipment I have on my Jeep.
Yep, would be enjoyable watching him study for a helicopter pilot license and go out to some of the remote locations in his yellow Chinook 💛 +++ maybe one day he'll build a tugboat to pull a ship out of ice in the Artic
To Matt: In response to your question, I think you might get a vague idea of what you might do but still depends on what you see when you get there.
To Tom: Tap the Start button without stepping on the brake and it’ll go to accessory.

I feel like Matt himself is the ultimate tool for the job. He assembles a crew of people and equipment to use as extensions of himself. Using this process, his success rate is top notch...and always entertaining to boot!

I love how Matt approaches a job and goes with the flow. I think he works on a problem in the moment. As he said once if he makes plans he probably wouldn't do it anyway. Watching this channel is the best part of my day!
I agree. I don't get how people think you can plan out a job before you have even seen what the job entails.
You need to start with a plan...so you have something to deviate from.
no matter what you plan it normally falls apart after step one haha
FYI Tom to turn on the accessory: simply press the start button with the key fob near ignition without your foot on the brake. Works in every vehicle with a key fob. Some vehicles require you to hold the button longer than others. But essentially all the same.

Tom, you get into accessory mode on push to start cars by having the key in the vehicle and pushing the start button without your foot on the brake. First push is 1 key turn. Second push is “on”. Put your foot on the brake and press the button and now you’re running 😎
I vote for blank slate. Matt knows that every situation is somehow unique, and his approach is to look at the situation and best determine how to leverage physics, terrain, and the tools at hand to recover the vehicle in question.

How anyone can still doubt Matt's design and fabrication ability is beyond me. The results speak for themselves. The wrecker is amazing.

Yeah he does clearly have a talent for this, despite not being big on computers or sums. It's an impressive machine to just have spring from your mind (with some good advice from those that went before). And I presume the success of this channel and the associated businesses helps him have the budget to get this stuff done - it can't be cheap.

So often I find myself gritting my teeth in anticipation watching these sort of cliff hanger rescues. Great job!
In my opinion nothing replaces experience. Matt uses his experience to accomplish the impossible. Great job to everyone, even the camera man too.
Thought it was funny that Matt even tried to go around the truck instead of just driving straight up the hill into the same recovery spot, perhaps the air lockers are being uncooperative?!? Also, I think I remember Matt saying he's a very visual kinda guy, so he's not going to waste too much brain power on conceiving a plan when he hasn't yet seen the full situation. I mean, generally they know something about what needs to happen because they've done similar recoveries, but the real plan doesn't come together until they are on-scene.
Also, that wrecker is just bad azz ... but there might be one improvement that might make some recoveries even easier, I think Casey LaDelle mentioned it, Matt could easily install a hidden wheel lift, that could be another game changer!
Had similar thoughts, guessing it would have been less dramatic to simply drive uphill.
The best line in this video was when Tom said "There is nothing out here, but there is a lot of it".🤣
I agree Matt, I love the west desert. It seems like just a lot of sage brush and nothing but it's so quiet and peaceful out there. I love rabbit hunting out around delta and dugway areas.

The wrecker is the right tool for many of these jobs. I really like the added versatility it brings to the channel.
Im very gald that you do have the big wrecker to assist you on your recoveries. Always intense recoveries. Danger is always around the corner. Stay safe Matt and crew.
Of course Matt's thinking about it the whole way there, but he's competitive ("I don't even have it in 4wd" and eating "victory" pie after a successful recovery, etc.) so giving his thought process away before he gets the lay of the land would jeopardize the process. I think he is troubleshooting the whole way..."if the vehicle is X, then Y"..."if the terrain is A, then we try Z...but if the car won't start, etc. FOR SURE he is thinking angles out and pre-troubleshooting the WHOLE WAY THERE. That's his rush & one of the main reasons this channel works. And the amazing family and crew, obviously.
Matt isn't a wrecker operator, he is a genuine recovery technician. No two recoveries are the same and being able to visualize the best route for recovery is a gift from experience.
This is where I miss Lizzie. Watching her clutching the steering wheel in a leaning vehicle is priceless!!

@@spencermcmurdo9895 I worked on farms and ranches when I was younger. The experience gave me skills that served me well, both in the Army and in my later life as a field biologist. Lizzie's time roofing , fabricating, and recovering stuck vehicles will serve her well on her ranch. I used to teach in a natural resources technology program. A good many of the forestry and fisheries technicians in the Pacific Northwest came out of our program. We had welding and building maintenance courses as part of the program because the technicians would usually be serving in out-or-the way areas where they would have to depend on themselves if something broke down. You could spot a ranch kid in a second because they would already know how to do a lot of the stuff.

That had to be the sneakiest of sneaks on a trail that barely is wide enough for one truck and sneak by with the world's largest off road wrecker basically on the hillside where the slightest loss in traction could potentially send both trucks down the embankment....you either just have mad skills or you just have gone mad or maybe your both and thats what makes your recoveries and channel as entertaining as it is and why all of us keep coming back for more 👏

Matt doesn't have a plan ahead of time, he has several likely scenarios in mind (based on experience) that he'll adapt when he sees the situation.

I lived in Heber for 2 years and spent a lot of time on and around Topaz mtn digging for topaz. Love the trails... and the pony express trail...
I do rescues on the East coast. One tip I’ve learned from rollovers or potential rollovers is to roll the windows down. During rollovers the side windows will break covering the driver and passengers with shards of glass. Rolling the windows down contains any broken glass inside the doors.

I remember the days when every episode Matt would be like, "I have no idea how to speak into a camera" lol It is awesome to see how things have changed.
Quick tip for getting a push-button start car to accessory mode: If your foot is not on the brake and you press the button once, that is the equivalent of the “Accessory” position. If you keep your foot off the brake and press it a second time, that will be the equivalent of the “On” position. A third press will go back to “Off”. Hope this helps for the future!

I think Matt has a broad overview of a plan which means he generally does bring the correct gear, but you can never finalize the plan until you are actually there.
I like the map part! Always include a map of where the shop was ….. where they are currently…. And where the job is.

I figure Matt has done enough jobs that he's not planning ahead so much as taking mental stock of his onboard equipment on the drive in. Pretty much all the off camber, off the trail recoveries are the same ... check stability for 1 or 2 recovery winch locations, check for bottomed out critical areas like oil pans and gas tanks, find a winch point to winch from, find attachment points as low as possible, give it a tug and see what happens.
Still awesome to watch every time, even if it is partially predictable!

Great save by the driver here. Wasn’t bull headed enough to make a bad situation worse and smartly called for a recovery. A lot of folks out there would try to salvage the trail and end up totaling an otherwise pristine truck.
