Really great info. I have an Ambient Jacket and am looking for something to go underneath. Thanks for the recommendations.
Can you wear the light weight hoodie over another bace layer
A rep from sitka said the Heavyweight makes a good everyday layer for casual wear, but you mentioned in another video that it gets pilling pretty easy. I'm not dropping that kind of money on clothes that the fabric shows wear real easy. What piece works well as an everyday casual wear hoodie. Maybe not one of these, but out of all the sitka products, which do you recommend?
The Heavyweight is a good looking piece and I enjoy it regardless of the pilling, but I agree, it's a bummer to have issues like that when the price is so high. I think the traverse is a good looking piece, but it's very warm. The lightweight hoody looks nice, and I just saw they have a product called the camp hoody. We don't have it in our store so I can't go take a look for you but it looks like a good option for everyday wear. -Brady
@@gearfool thanks. I did see the camp hoody. Looks a bit spendy for something marketed to wear just around camp :) I've picked up a few high end pieces from other companies that experience pilling right away as well. Very frustrating to pay top dollar for things that can't hold up to light use, but are marketed for pretty tough environments.
What mid layer have you guys used that compares most to the stone glacier helio?
We've used both the Stone Glacier Helio Hoody and the SITKA Heavyweight Hoody. Both products are micro grid fleece of synthetic materials. The SITKA Heavyweight Hoody is most comparable to the Stone Glacier Helio Hoody, and quite honestly, both products are solid performers on the mountain and in the field. We happily wear either on any given day. - Forest
What color is that heavyweight? Coyote? I just received it in the oak color but when it arrived it looks much closer to the bland colt color.
Chest size, length of arms, waist, have more to do than your height and weight.
Good break down. Pretty accurate assessment in my opinion of fit and where and when to use each piece.
