The F1Power Balance - Scarbs pre-Imola analysis by Peter Windsor

  • Craig Scarborough in this video unlocks the secrets behind the Ferrari F1-75. Some of it is aero/chassis; some of it is the power unit. In the build-up to Imola, Craig also reviews the challenges now facing Red Bull (and the reason for Max Verstappen's spectacular retirement from the Australian GP); and talks again about the problems facing Mercedes. With Imola featuring the first of the year's sprint qualifying sessions it's unlikely that too many teams will be trying anything significantly new - so now, as Craig points out, is the time to take stock.

Three races with a car that looked near as the one they showed up with at testing. I'd say the Red Team hit the spot, alright. But RB and Merc have 20 races to sort themselves. Still, great to see Ferrari back in the thick of things again.

Binotto hinted that their development was focused on optimising their engine for E10 fuel so that there's no horsepower lost when switching to the new fuel. And their close relationship with Shell has allowed them to make gains on E10 combustion, which presumably is where their power unit advantage lies, and teams like Haas and Alfa Romeo are benefitting from that advantage.

They’ve been CONSISTENTLY developing fuels for Ferrari in f1 for the better part of 2 decades and have been a racing fuel supplier longer than most of those other companies have existed. They single handedly Hold the advantage because of their close relationship no matter who shell supplies the fuel too. It’s made for the Ferrari WORKS power unit and their engineers, nobody else. Before the vacuum issue became public, I thought that Red Bull's problem was that they went too far trying to reduce weight since they are (reportedly) so much heavier than the minimum. If the failure did occur on a pressurized part of the system (and it's not seals) that theory could also be applicable here and the fix could drive their weight reduction targets even higher.

One thing not mentioned is that Ferrari (in the last 2 years) had a massive advantage in windtunnel time because of their championship standings. This is probably crazy thinking because of lack of information, but I can't help but wonder if Ferrari are benefitting in any way from the engine developments they got in trouble for a couple years back. Did they learn something that they were able to further develop and apply this year? They've done a lot of work all around to make their package better down and around the track, but they do seem to be the power class-of-the-field now. Even though I'm not a huge Ferrari fan, I'm enjoying it immensely. It's a exciting team to watch. (And no more moping around for the Tifosi.) Whatever they did, I hope they keep it going. @peterwindsor Hey fellas big fan of both of yours. At roughly 2:50 on the video you asked what accounts for that incredible bump in performance in in the engine.
I believe that a good amount of that credit goes to Palantir. And it looks like its spread through every aspect of the organization as its designed to do.
You may have noticed their brand on the sleeves, of the boys Carlos and Charles.
Palantir has been with the team for around 3 years, which is roughly the amount of time it takes for their enterprise and micro level data flow data structuring AI called Gotham really goes online. Its incredibly complex and I am by no means an expert.
But this is not a coincidence by any stretch. You mix that in with a data driven former power train engineer as a team principle, who was probably involved in bringing PLTR in the first place and you cant forget magic Charles and the consistent rock Carlos to boot. There hasn't been a single track were RB have outpaced Ferrari, they have at best managed to give them a race and for the most part that's debatable.
They have managed to win one race out of 3 via the smallest margin possible and aided by favourable safety car interventions.
Make no mistake that currently Ferrari are quicker and by a decent margin.
RB have reliability issues and a weight issue which will eat into their budget cap (Ferrari also need to lose weight but then they have more wind tunnel and CFD).

But Ferrari HAVE that advantage. Firstly cause they was running still their PU in safe mode and having a more downforce setting than RB. Secondly cause Red bull used smaller wings and less draggy setup to keep up the straight speed with Ferrari.
And the evidence of the superiority of Ferrari Pu is in that Australian restart under SC, where even if Leclerc get some marbles under his tyres, without giving him the traction it needed to starting well, Verstappen was still unable to pass him on the straight, both with close drs.

Getting better from the start of the season when you are already winning is not the same as getting better during the season when you haven't resolved your initial problems, yet - because that is your total focus. Most of Merc's modern F1 incarnation has been the former and not the latter. They are experiencing the same reset that Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, Red Bull, and other teams have experienced in the past, when the rug was pulled out from under their feet and their key advantage negated by a rules reset. All of them focused on '22, so appeared to drop behind in development. @@johngriffiths118 even when they were caught cheating it was because Red Bull whined until the rules and their interpretation was altered so that the Ferrari genius could be labeled cheating. My hope is the biased FIA doesn’t bend over for Red Bull again… what’s been nice to see though, given Red Bull and Mercedes performance is that Karma does seem to exist.

No doubt Ferrari have cheated again to achieve such a powerful pu.

Your comment means they have cheated in the past, which is false.
And they are not cheating now either, they simply have focused on this year's car during the last season.

No doubt you're an F1 ig no rant. Ferrari never cheated, they was using a loophole (totally legal to be used, if is not specified in the rules or ruled) in the rules in 2019. When Red Bull asked a rule clarification to FIA, FIA further stricted that rule upon fluxometer and Ferrari stopped to use that loophole.
That's not cheating. If Ferrari would have continued to use that loophole it would have been cheating, but they didn't.
The today engines was all checked, deemed legal and sealed by FIA until 2026. No chance anyone is cheating.
