Ancestral worship or better yet veneration is an effort to recognise the continuous chain of existence that jas brought about your own. It is a way to maintain your connection with that continuous chain, recognising that much as you did not create yourself so your ancestors never created themselves and... because of the miracle of your existence... you are thankful.

    • @ChrisMarotola
      @ChrisMarotola  14 днів тому

That’s a good shallow narrow minded explanation, it’s more than just acknowledging the continuous chain of existence
This are spirits that are believed to mediate before god and the living,
This are same spirits that will continue the spiritual inheritance within the family to select or appoint one as a traditional healer
The manifestation of it brought about sickness and illness, even dangerous encounters if one doesn’t consent
This is not about acknowledging as many tend to use that shallow definition

@@kodekubenini6163 it’s not about manipulation of of some traditional healers, this is a fact, ancestor spirits can bless and curse, they can take and give, they require continuous sacrifice and rituals,
Im just showing you the bigger picture this spirits are not merely about honoring a continuous chain but they’re revered so much, thru prayer and worship, an please don’t tell me they don’t worship and pray to ancestors, look up the definitions of those words

@@ChrisMarotola as I said before, traditional spirituality as practiced by most is a cult. You are compelled to do things under a threat of some kind as you have already illustrated. In that respect it operates much like the cults of organised religion which compel you to righteousness under the threat of hellfire or eternal damnation or excommunication or...or...etc.
True spirituality however is a deeply personal experience and is not regulated by tradition or doctrine.

1.1 The different spiritual practices by different groups is only a matter of interpretation by those groups. It is much like a programming language, no matter how different from the next, how different the GUI might even be, the outcome remains the same...if it's a phone it'll make calls, Mac/windows produces docs, PLC's IBM or Siemens... same purpose.
Therefore, Tswana or Ndebele or any other practice or choice of customs...all practice spirituality... recognise the oneness of all.

I think that there was a form of religious belief before colonialism. It’s documented by the colonists in history. But many aspects of African spirituality evolved from a response to the missionary work of Christianity from Europeans. Missionary work was a massive part of Europeans settling in Africa

The Zulus don't have God concept but rather a first ancestor. The Fon says God is both Male and Female and the Yoruba say God is Male. There were religions but not a Religion. Point of the video is to debunk the idea of a monolithic spirituality for all Africans. And even critique various concepts in the modern idea of African Spirituality.

      I hear your point
Look, every tribe or race has a way of their living, they also have the spiritual way of doing things, and that’s their religion, and religion can be so much intertwined with culture that at the end, you can’t tell the difference between the two,
Now my point is, there was a concept of spirituality within our different tribes, which is religion, the colonizers called it African religion, to an extent that they labeled it pagan,
The early theologians surely after democracy and all, wanted to shift away from the colonial connotations attached to the African religion as pagan, then became or was then called “African spirituality”
Resulting to my point that, the concept of African spirituality (this terminology especially of “African spirituality” is a reaction to colonialism,
If we continued to call it African religion, this specific terminology, then I wouldn’t say it’s a reaction to colonialism, because vele fundamentally, it is a religion, we have Yoruba religion, Xhosa religion, Chinese religion, Indians and all

But if you know the creation myths of isiZulu then you realize that “unkulunkulu” is the great great grandfather, the first man that came out of bees of reeds, then you imvelinqangi who came out of darkness to create the world, resulting to unkulunkulu being the first man
So we don’t have the name of true Jehovah as in the Bible,
We have transliteration of Jesus to uJeso, God (in general) to unkulunkulu

It seems as though comments that don't line up with your beliefs mysteriously vanish...no matter...
Allow me to point out a few things you might be overlooking.
Following the logic of your favourite book at Romans 8 11 you must accept that within you, yes you, resides the same spirit that resurrected Jesus Christ... meaning that in all man...even your ancestors.
That being so, and firmly established by Jesus at Luke referencing Psalm 82 v 6... you are a god...just like your ancestors...and no not God...god... because within you is the essence of God...the spirit of God.
All mankind is animated by the same spirit except that through religion the powers that be have monopolized the concept of the Christ...in order to hold you captive...by capturing you alive like a fish ( I will make you fishers of men...)
Your body is held captive through religion and your belief that you are good for nothing (total depravity) allows your mind to accept the lie that within you there is no spirit of God.

If Bible butchering was a comment, it would be this comment,
Context bro, context, Rom 8:11, is for Christian believers who personally welcome the Holy Spirit upon themselves, if you’re not a Christian, then you and I don’t carry the same spirit
So that spirit, is for true Christian’s who have fully given their lives to Jesus
      Psalm 82:6
Was addressed to ancient Israelite judges and magistrates, emphasizing their divine appointment and responsibility to uphold God’s justice
This line doesn’t suggest humans are ontologically equal to God or posses inherent divinity
Rather “you are gods(elohim in Hebrew)”
Highlights stewardship of God’s justice and accountability
The context in Psalm 82 address judges, not all general folks
And the Hebrew word elohim, means divine authority, not inherent divinity.
If religion holds you captive, was Jesus Christ also held captive, because He was religious, He attended and followed all Jewish laws and festivals, with a higher perspective, that’s only for religious folks,
