Being older/senior, we traded our two-up atv for a '23 Yamaha Wolverine X4 850 XT-R. Has a Wheelbase of 83.7 in Usually the two of us, bringing Family/Friends and the dog is a great ride. Happy Trails, Be Safe
Last week I picked up a x3 max turbo rr 2022. Still have the 2021 x3 xrc. I'll say after 250 miles on mountain trails, I am surprised at the capability of the max. Honestly, for me the max is awesome! Hit some tight tails today and it did great. Plus having the power is great. And it has 35 in BFGs working fabulous. Agreed 35s in sand hollow may bend a lower controll arm but that's an easy fix. Thanks for you views on all this. Great video.
I have had many different sxs's over the years , x3's, xp1k's, turbo s, and pro xp. My opinion the turbo s dynamics with a big turbo has been my favorite. Actually selling my pro xp and going back to a turbo S. These things just keep getting better.
I bought Turbo R 4 and my friend has Pro R 4. The Pro is sick but in 4 seater trim the Turbo R is more playful and the power is still great. Both machines are surprisingly agile for their size. I just didn’t want to go beyond the 125” wheelbase and that was the deciding factor for me. Speed definitely has appealing machine coming for sure!
Hey Nick, great info. I completely agree on the wheel base. My buddy bought a 2018 Max X3 and didn't keep it a year. It was like turning a bus in tight stuff. Truth is, there is no perfect buggy. That's why I built my own and there are still things I would like different.
I have a x3 4 seater....bought brand new in Jan 2021 now have close to 4k miles mostly in Midwest tight trails (the black hills is amazing). Rarely have I felt it is too long, you point that thing where you want and it goes, sometimes I think people just repeat what they here on that talking point (school bus ect) ...I'm going to southern Utah in a month I'm kinda nervous with the length and I think you are right on crawling, low is too jerky in this machine and the seating position is low. I don't think speed is making a 64 inch model as that is what's needed here in Minnesota. I'm in the market for a new machine come this winter but if it's just slight mods on the new x3 I don't think I'll switch to the xp pro
I’m a St. George native and own a X3 max and yes I had to do things to it to make it good but it does work very well even rock crawling. That being said let’s ride some mountain bikes and dirt bikes next time you’re in town! 👊🏻
I went with a Turbo R Ultimate over the Pro R Ultimate specifically because of wheelbase. Came really close to going Pro R because I wanted “the best” but after weighing my options I concluded “the best” for my riding is the Turbo R
I have to disagree with you on the MAX. I bought mine for mainly desert and dune riding and it's been an amazing machine. It may not be the best rock crawler out there but I've done tons of gnarly stuff in AZ & Utah and its done just fine with the Smart-Lok. I love the room for extra camping gear or for bringing extra friends along too. I've let 4 of experienced riding buddies drive my car and they've all bought one.
That’s awesome… different strokes. If my kids were much bigger it would also tempt me to consider a Max, loving the feedback and people chiming in with their preferences based on experience 👌🏼
What would you recommend, 64in or 72in can am x3, live in Arizona, we ride the sand dunes and hard pack riding around the house. My riding style is casual, I don’t ride balls to the wall.
So many upgrades on the new Polaris platform(s), but we do miss that Turbo S wheelbase. Guess we just gotta go taller to achieve the same breakover angle! Doubt these OEMs are going to ever go backwards in length
I switched from two RZR 4 seat turbos/Pro to a 2 seat X3 RR this year. Eh, it’s fast and fun but can’t stand the seating position or working on it. Mainly dune ride in Michigan or 2 tracks. Honestly do love the motor and transmission/clutch so far over the Pro but sorta miss my RZR platform…may go back next year, but definitely not a 4 seater.
Love my XRS max at Silver lake I don’t plan on doing many trail rides with it, this is my first SxS so I’m happy for my purchase and the max was definitely needed for my family
@Bradley Harrington This is my first SxS and honestly cannot say that I’ve found anything I dislike about it, more than enough power and the suspension soaks up everything I’ve thrown at it at Silver Lake, mine is a max but the 2 seaters look like a blast also just basically easier to throw around in the dunes Mine is also a 72” because it’ll probably spend its life at the dunes or just cruising county roads, we may venture to the trails a couple times but I know it’ll get tight in some areas, rode dirtbikes in Baldwin for a lot of years If you’re ever down there when I am I’d give you a ride if you wanted to see what it’s like if you haven’t been in a X3 before
I really like it. After a trip to Sand Hollow I want one for the rocks. And, a supercharger is under $5k. Love the wheelbase, build quality and styling and they are killer crawlers
Future should be exciting, it’ll be nice to have more options and the competition between the manufacturers makes for better machines for all of us. I think we’re already seeing it.
Great discussion! I can’t agree more with how long some of these cars are getting and I really don’t think they will get any longer with how compromised they become. I currently have an 18 xp4 turbo fox edition and really enjoy the variety of terrain I can ride with that car in the Reno Nevada desert and mountains. I recently had the fox shocks all redone and had fox’s iqs installed and that was a game changer. I enjoy the content, keep it coming!
I love my xrs max, I ride 98% dunes so I feel the length gives me more stability when hitting the really big and sharp transitions. I very rarely ever have more than two people at a time tho. It takes the whoops pretty good to.
A while ago, my buddy bought an xp4 turbo over a can am 4 seater because of the loooooow seating position rather than the shorter length. He has a pro r on order now, but the can am 4 is tiny sitting next to it. Even though they are the same length.
Without know for sure what the speed will hold for overall performance what’s everyone’s recommendation hood off and order a speed or just get ahold of a turbo r and have fun with it?
Nick.. please be honest. 35s for the 22 XRS. We crawl alot. Smart shocks shock therapy car. Very responsive. Do you really think 35s put a lot of pressure?
I run 34 Warriors on our 22 max xrs, no smart shocks, stock springs, no clutch mods, ran everything from dunes to rocks and mud hard, no issues, no sag yet 🤞🏻, 700 miles with 4 adults most of the time, still on original belt
My first car was a 2016 xp4 1000. It was a great car. I am now in a 2020 can am x3 XRS RR and it’s a night and day difference for the better. The can am 2 seat is a great car for desert and definitely in the sand. Rock crawling I have not done in my x3 yet but that’s not my thing anyways. Would love to see the speed come out finally but who knows. Thanks for the info and see ya at the sand show
Pro XP 4 with hcr long arm kit and stage 6 Aftermarket assassins over either pro r all day. Also I’m probably extremely biased since that’s my build but I have zero complaints
The throttle was way too sensitive, I heard it's been an issue on the 2021-2022 models. I want to buy the slow "valet" key, to see if that helps, or maybe a pedal commander. It made easy obstacles difficult for me.
Maybe you will reply also I’m just one question everyone’s telling me not to mud my 2021 Polaris razor turbo S4 seater because that’s the only thing I can really do in Illinois with it what do you think is that a bad idea quick way to ruin the machine
I’ve been going back/fourth between the Pro XP 4 (penny pinch option) , Turbo R 4 Premium along with the DS/RS Mavericks that are looking less and less attractive (and refined) as I move through the decision. Problem is the warden is thumbs up on $30K, so the Pro XP 4 is a easy deal, but our environment is southern ID with huge expanses of free range, northern UT/NV and on down to the Moab area is about my 1-day-drive limit. In all those areas the wider Turbo R 4 seems the better pick, but the Premium is pushing $36K 🙄 and is sure to put a scowl on the warden’s face. So maybe it’ll be the stripped down Turbo Sport…? Maybe I’ll sell her on the Turbo Premium with “We wont tip over and die with the wide one.. probably.. and it has harnesses”.
I'm assuming you don't like the long wheel base? There are some benefits when having a long wheel base side by side. On bumpy terrains, it's a lot smoother compared to the short base models. Also if you didn't know about SXSBlogs, they have a 2jz rzr that's a long base sxs

My pro r 4 seat ultimate on 35” tires did amazing in Moab and sand hollow crawled over everything and did amazing at st. Antony’s dunes. But what ever dude
The Pro R is very long as a 4 seater but realistically its travel numbers are so crazy it makes up for it. The can am is a bus without the travel or ground clearance. Part of the owners experience is also the brand, is there aftermarket support for it? Can you get parts fast and easy? I have many many reservations about speed. It seems like there are lots of good ideas but lets be real that’s only half of the story. Will they be reliable if not how will they handle that? Can they even afford a recall if one needs to happen? Speed seems like a promise or maybe just a good idea but we all need to see what it does in reality. Also i think its ok to question do i want to give money to a company that will go after its own customers if they are concerned. Nick i have even seen Robby do that with you. Thats not acceptable and its not wise. Most would never put up with that. Overall i totally agree people need to stop just looking at spec sheets. These are not video game cars they are real. You can feel the trade offs each one makes. Just like dog breeds you need to pick them based on what you want out of them not just specs or how they look. if you are never home and lazy a Husky is not for you regardless of how cute it is.
@@ChupacabraOffroad shock stroke isn’t everything simply shift the mounting point a couple inches on the arm and it negates the stroke difference. Also can am has travel above the frame. So yes the wheels can technically move up but only in theory because you will lay frame before you can use all of your travel and then. It’s the whole reason Polaris needed to come up with the usable travel because games are played on the x3 suspension
It’s gotta be hard to be a tester when you’re talking about $40-50k machines. With motocross bikes, media companies get media demo models to borrow for a few months. Hard to see UTV companies doing that anytime soon with supply chain issues. I don’t even think dealers are getting demo models
Wouldn’t it be cool if they did that like the Moto industry? I love most all the media outlets bike reviews - lots of good info and our industry needs it IMO
Ahh.....the age old question....when am I going to get my Speed UTV?? JK!! Just looked over at Speed and guess what....they are still doing quality control testing in Jan '23. Hope you get your Speed and it is the answer!!
I’m torn between a KRX supercharged vs a 72 inch can am X3 RC. I’m still waiting until next month to see the new model coming out. I’m all bout the whoops, jumping, tight trails, forest & eventually a duner. I don’t need to be the fastest. I wish the KRX had another 25hp. I’d be happy then.
I’m not sure any UTV will ever be the best overall in every riding form. Polaris kept the xp1000 for the trail and rock crawling. The turbo r and pro r are for desert and dunes. I think the speed car will definitely be a better dune/desert car than a rock crawler. That 2 seat Diablo looks might fine to me! cool video man!
I have a 2017 xp1k4 and I love it! Over 5,000 miles of beating it to death like hitting deep whoops at 50-60 mph and bashing it up some rock climbs. All stock except some shock tuning by fineline suspension in st george ut. And some 32 inch tires on 15 inch rims. But I haven't broken anything except belts. I've done the proper maintenance but nothing really went wrong until just recently my clutch needs some major attention. Its the most solid 4 seat platform in my opinion. The xp, the xp turbo, and the turbo s. All basically share the same platform and it rules! The new stuff is way too long for sure! I'll keep my xp1k4 until it fails me..... which may be never, and then I'll find a used 4 seat turbo s
I think the Pro-R is very overrated. Sure it has 225hp, but it’s a big ol fat pig, it needs that hp. I know that with that weight comes some of the toughest suspension to ever come on a factory UTV, but for 50k I would take the Turbo R (or even ProXP) and build it to run circles around the Pro.
I'm on the list for a Diablo. Any thoughts on the looks of the Speed tires, narrower compared to the others, right? You should organize a ride for your spare tire carrier customers haha
While I’m a 4 seat guy due to necessity, I think the Speed El Diablo at 110 inch WB is going to be the hot ticket. The power and Dimensions of the Speed El Diablo should be amazing in all terrains. And Nick while you did not enjoy the X3 is the rock environment, don’t forget the X3 has won King of the Hammers for the last 2 and maybe 3 years, shutting Polaris out.

Roby sold out to hisun. The speed is going to be going through some issues.
Good points and thank you
I have a 2017 xp1k4 and I love it!
Thank you sir 🙏
I'm on the list for a Diablo. Any thoughts on the looks of the Speed tires, narrower compared to the others, right?
You should organize a ride for your spare tire carrier customers haha
I don’t really like the look of the Diablo, but the Bandit looks like it would be a stout little car… would love to drive all 3 to compare
I hate the long bus cars we have to choose from now
While I’m a 4 seat guy due to necessity, I think the Speed El Diablo at 110 inch WB is going to be the hot ticket. The power and Dimensions of the Speed El Diablo should be amazing in all terrains.
And Nick while you did not enjoy the X3 is the rock environment, don’t forget the X3 has won King of the Hammers for the last 2 and maybe 3 years, shutting Polaris out.
True though
OMG get to the point 😖
Too long
Nobody cares, get a job.
Sorry nick it’s not going to be delivered.
