They are native pollinators... you can provide them with wood, drill holes in it and they will choose what you give them over your house.

DON'T HARM BEES. They are pollenators and we need them to survive. If this is a harmless deterrent ok, but if so you should make that clear.

These types of bees bore into wood and harm structures, similar to termites, and produce no honey and do little to zero in terms of pollinating. They are okay to die. Honey bees are completely different.

that's a lie they polinate plenty of plants including native plants just because they're annoying to you doesn't mean they deserve annihilation @@Mrsgoose

No, they actively avoid the reproductive systems of plants and just steal the nectar by creating a hole. By creating this hole, it encourages honey bees to also just drink the nectar and not pick up pollen. Carpenter bees negatively impact honey bees, let alone us. There are studies showing that carpenter bees do almost no pollinating and even when working with honey bees there was a dramatic decline in pollination.
And my wooden staircase collapsing from a carpenter bee infestation would not be „annoying.“ it would mean I could not get into my apartment. And that‘s probably a 15k job. I can afford this hack, but I cannot afford replacing the staircase or calling the exterminator.

Amazed that in today's day and age with technology and information at your finger tips... this is harmful to them. You should instead take care of your deck so the wood isn't rotted enough for them to chew. They can only chew softened weathered wood.... they are native pollinators that we need.

It’s amazing that people comment when they don’t know what they are talking about. Carpenter bees are not honey bees.

@@shelbyhenderson6532 you must not have a wooden deck. There’s a reason pest control companies are allowed to treat for carpenter bees while bumble bees are protected.

@@Ooofaa-Maa Carpenter bees don't produce honey, but they are a top pollinator. If you want to protect your deck, spray it with NBS30 every spring. If carpenter bees are destroying your deck, you must not be maintaining it correctly.

@@SuperBeBe78 do you think they actually survive on wood? Because they don’t; they eat nectar from flowers. They are still pollinators which makes them important. Honey isn’t the beneficial product of bees, that’s just a luxury we take. The spreading of pollen is what makes them as vital as every other pollinator for life on earth.
