Thanks, this is one of the best comparison videos I have seen. The side by side by side shot of all three running at the end during your final comments is a great visual and something other reviewers would do well to emulate. The Hanhart looks the best to me with the dark black dial and white indices, the well-defined handset that seems to pop, and the red tip on the seconds hand. I wish they were all a tad larger like my 41 mm Hamilton mechanical on OEM bracelet. Thanks again.
I’ve had a baby Alpinist in green for years and wore it to my wedding. Love it. I have been looking at both the Hamilton and Hanhart closely but haven’t pulled the trigger due to them being so similar to my baby Alpinist and I try to keep to 12 pieces…and I already have a khaki expedition 😅Awesome video, been waiting for something like this for a while!
Got my Hanhart Preventor about a month ago. I love it...
Where did you get it. It is out of stock
Same, it's fantastic. I'm just waiting for the bracelet to come back in stock.
@aphex_303
Me too. Have it on a black NATO strap right now
@@dokmetasonur
I had a deposit on it since September.
Bought the Hanhart in September when it was released. It came on the bund, I wear it on a CWC single pass NATO. I ordered and paid for the bracelet when I ordered the watch still waiting for delivery but I understand in the next 2/3 weeks. Lovely watch
The Hanhart is 🔥. Great everyday watch from a watchmaker that a lot of collectors sleep on.
Great video of the 3. I own the Hanhart. Incredible watch. Wears smaller than it looks. The bund strap, with clasp, is my go to. Hanhart regulates the movement to 0/+8 w/maximum delta in all tested positions of +10. I contacted them and they sent a very nice letter explaining what they do and why. While a standard SW200, they actually regulate and test it. I find mine is around +4 on the wrist. The lume stays bright enough to read through out the night, including second hand, which is all that makes a difference to me. The best features, IMHO, is the HD12 hardened steel. Thanks again for the comparison.
Agreed, the leather of the bund strap is the most comfortable strap I’ve ever owned. The leather is amazingly soft. As for the HD12, I was messing with different straps to get different looks and I slipped with the spring bar tool. Not the slightest mark on that steel, amazing. I bought the blue dial and I’m still waiting on the bracelet. I recommend this watch to anyone at any level of collecting.
@ Try the CNS paratrooper (google) strap. Unbelievably inexpensive and a lot of color options. I also use them for the FDX Tudors. This is my go to, actual real hard field use, strap for any watch. Mustard/black looks amazing and different.
I was waiting for someone making this exact comparison video! Great content 🙏
I have a baby alpinist (green dial) and this is the most underrated toolwatch I know... Specs are amazing and price is right - which gets pretty rare for Seiko these days... Love it!!!
Of the three, the Hanhart is my favourite.
Of the three, I believe they’re all winners.
I went with the SPB211 Baby Alpinist brown/tropical sunburst dial on the OEM Seiko Alpinist bracelet. The Seiko logo really stands out as the rest of the dial is printed. And you get the date complication and 200m water resistance.
Out of these three - The Hanhart is the clear winner 🥇
All three are excellent, but I prefer the Hanhart. I have the Hamilton Murph 38 (and I like it). But recently I tried on the Hanhart and if I had to do all over again, that would be my pick. Thanks for the excellent review.
Damn, that new intro is sick! Happy new year and thanks for the great content!
Grear review! Thank you! The Hanhart has my preference.
I bought a Preventor HD12. Dimensions perfect, legibility perfect, comfort perfect. They have a well-crafted case. The only weakness is the backlight (Lumi) is lousy. Otherwise great value for money.
Great content, thank you. I'm a Hanhart nut, but even if money wasn't an issue I'd still hesitate to get one because the rest of my collection would just gather dust 😂
I think it's time for Seiko to produce a thinner movement.
Yes! I really like the watch but it is way too thick.
@@hbgghx5764depending on your wrist, the Seiko may appear thinner than other watches. But for sure, the thickeness is Seiko's limit
I been saying this for years ! How can a company like that not a have a thin , 4hrz , workhorse ?
@@monochromiosand no signed crowns. They went backwards in quality
@@steelsteez6118 it is a pity it does not come with a signature. I love it anyway.
hanhart are knocking it out of the park with their realeases..my favorite brand by far
Love the Preventor-my next watch as I’m getting more into the German watches.
I've been checking out your show for many years now and I always enjoy your detailed assessment of watches and we have a similar aesthetic appreciation. Thanks. I'll be checking out your next show.👍
This is a very useful comparison. Thank you for this.
Glad you found it helpful!
One of the most relevant comparison videos ever. Maybe you can add in an Oris Pointer date as well
@@domokun938 that would be an awesome addition but I don't own one and have no desire to 😂
Just was gifted the Hanhart but blue dial on the bund strap. Love the dial, keeping great time, and I can see wearing this as an everydayer. I do wish the power reserve was longer than 38 hours.
3 of the best cathedral handsets watches out there! amazing !!!
Intro montage was smooth with it.
I like new intro music. better than your iconic previous intro.
I love your comparison videos. I own the hanhart. It's been good so far although was a bit of a pain switching the bracelet off and on
Hanhart is the winner. I love my Preventer HD12. ❤
Great comparison of all nice watches. I don't have a single Hamilton or hanhart in my collection . Do have an brown rope dial alpinest. That hanhart is a very handsome watch. It would be the one I would buy. Being a Seiko boy, I only have a few German watches. Muelle glassute, sinn, laco, and dekla. German watches have a different vibe than others. Very high quality!
I love Hanhart, but you can't beat the style of Hamilton in this area.
One thing to note - the price disparity between the Hanhart and Murph only really applies outside of Europe. Within Europe the recommended retail price for both watches is pretty much the same, although I do think you're more likely to find a Murph on sale than a Hanhart due to their wider availability.
The new intro is slick
I really like the Alpinist SPB159 but I hate that it has a date window. If they ever remove the date window it would be perfect.
This is a hot segment right now. Adding the Tudor Ranger and Rolex Explorer into the mix...
Love the Hanhart. I'm going to be visiting the local AD very soon.
The Murph looks so much better on the bracelet.
The Seiko doesn't even belong in the comparison, there's better AliExpress watches.
Your video shows all watches in a great light, including the Murph. I own the 38mm Murph and a Seiko "Laurel" Alpinist - spb243.
Both have a faux patina but the alpinist is the MOST legible watch in my collection whereas, the faux patina printed numerals on the Murph is so subdued, almost feint.
That in tandem with the awful crystal, make the murph legibility VERY poor.
It's still a cool watch with the movie tie in a styling. The case and bracelet fit and finish is awesome.
But I'm sorry I did not know about the hanhart when purchasing the Murph.
Tool watches should be peak legibility. Faux aged lume is no bueno. Have a Hanhart, very nice watches for the price. Zero complaints.
Nice review. I really appreciate that you synced all 3 watches, well done. I am a Seikopath, so for me the Alpinist is my choice. FYI, the "baby Alpnist" is still in production, but green dial only., I have ordered one and it's coming in the springtime.
Yeah, I didn't think the entire line was discontinued, just this specific model
@@AverageBros Gotcha, also I need a date window on my watches, so... ;)
For me, it will be the Hanhart all the way. Quality over build and a very decent viewable dial.
I will be buying the Hanhart
Great video. I love all three of these and the Hanhart and Hamilton are clearly the “better” watches but the Seiko is so much more interesting
Hey mark fancy introduction 😊
I love my Alpinist, but damn that Hanhart is sweet!
Great comparison! I own the Seiko and really like it, but it has some severe cons in my opinion:
1. It is at least 1-2 mm too thick. The bulky casebaback ruins the profile. The glass bottom is totally useless and the 200 m WR as well.
2. There are too few microadjustments on the bracelet. It's either hit or miss. That's why I don't like wearing this watch in summer.
3. Why on earth is the crown not signed? It makes the watch look cheap. At this pricepoint that is a huge letdown.
For these reasons I am seriously considering to sell this watch and get one of the 2 others instead. They both look awesome. So big thanks for this helpful video.
Three watches I love deeply. Thank you for the comparison. My mind always told me Hanhart, but my heart went for Seiko only because of how it wears. As you said, any of the three is a great one, and none is a bad one. For sure, technically, the Hanhart appears like the better put together. To fautina is probably the handicap of the Hamilton, which is anyway iconic. The sunburst dial of the Seiko and the way it sits on my wrist won my heart.
In Japan, baby alpinists sell secondhand for twice original retail (ridiculous !), and the hanhart hd12 new for about twice the US price. Australia sells HD12 for about the US price. All of these watches seem to have printed indices unfortunately.
Love your comparison video. Very informative. Wish Hanhart did a darker blue dial (their blue version is too bright for my taste) or even some dial with sunburst effect like the Sinn 556IB… but overall a great watch indeed.
Call me petty, but I'm kinda sucker for lumes, if that baby alpinist lumed on the numerals, I would've gone with it first hand :( coz other than that the specs and design is perfect gada! Damit seiko!
Hamilton nailed the appearance of the Murph 38, it just looks great, much better on a strap than the bracelet in my opinion. Shame about the Powermatic 80, I'm not spending that much on a movement that's difficult to service. The Hanhart is the better watch, but I don't like the look as much. Good comparison 👍
Sono tutti e tre bellissimi orologi, ma il Seiko alpinist e' il mio preferito, nonostante la data che non mi piace e il fondello trasparente.
Very enjoyable review! I like all 3 designs, I’m not familiar with that Seiko. Like essentially all Seiko’s, it seems to me too thick. I really wanted a blue dial, preferably sun ray finish, with Arabic numerals & the Hanhart was very close call I ultimately I’ve ordered a Longines Spirit 42mm. I already have a 38mm Khaki field and didn’t want another little watch at this point. I’m hoping Hamilton updates the larger Murph in ‘25 - i.e. AR coating, bracelet, color choices too maybe. Thanks for all the time you put into your videos!!
For someone, the presence or absence of a transparent case back may be crucial when choosing from this watches. My choice is the Hamilton Murph.
I’ve seen the Hamilton in person. Normally I wouldn’t knock a watch because why but it’s pretty underwhelming and the crystal has a mean flat on it
Glare, not flat. It’s actually kinda bubbled
I think the seiko is the only one with the cool factor here. Inferior? Maybe to some extent.
The seiko is tall as hell though
Great comparison ! I really hesitated between those very same watches but at the end of the day, I went for the Hamilton purely because I loved the design language better. :D I don't like dates at 3 O'clock (damn Seiko who can't make a watch without a date or worst, a day/date windows :D) and the Hanhart's numerals seemed too bold to me....
A bit of info about the the Murph's movement, the H-10 (Powermatic 80/ETA C.07.611). It is really accurate and well factory regulated. Mine is running about -2.2 sec/day, which I have never seen out of the box at this price.
Something to, maybe, take into consideration about the free-sprung balance and the absence of regulator : first, you could adjust it yourself. There is 2 tiny screws on the sprung balance, but I wouldn't do it and as a matter of fact, I always avoided trying to regulate any watch by myself, but it is just me. Second, according to the Swatch Group, the free-sprung balance ensures better accuracy and long-term reliability (because is is more shock-resistant). Finally, it is worth noting that a free-sprung balance is usually found on higher-end luxury movements. Sure it also means that you have to send it away if you want to have it regulated, but this movement is the bread and butter of the swatch group and it is promised to become as ubiquitous as the ETA 2824, from which it is derived. I foresee (hope) it will get easy to find parts for it in the long run, and more watchmakers will be trained to regulate it.
The murph 38 is perfect
I have the Seiko Baby Alpinist and like everything about it except the supplied bracelet. For the price, its disappointing that it only has two micro adjustments. If it fits, then you're in luck. For me, it's either too tight or too loose with the removal of links being the only true adjustment. I took the bracelet off and put a nice reddish brown leather strap on which contrasts and accentuates the beautiful green dial.
The watch itself is fantastic.
FWIW... Having just watched Interstellar, I can see the "Murph" joining my collection this year.
I really like the Murph... Even though I have never seen Interstellar. I probably should watch it.
Watch it. You’ll want the murph even more.
Hanhart, Hanhart, Hanhart.
Are screw links actually more robust than pin and collar? I thought it was mainly the convenience. Seems like a pin and collar is even more secure. We know how screws can sometimes fall out
Alpinist. Hands down.
What no Militado ML08? ;)
Please give it another go with a tweak to the audio/script specifying the watch/manufacturer when switching between watches. It was impossible to keep up on with your back turned to the screen for more than 5-10 seconds. I was really looking forward to this comparison, it just needs some tweaking on the execution/presentation.
8:37 Popping open the case back. So far for waterproofing.
Aesthetically, the Murph. I like the printing better. The creamy white beige font. The warm matte black to charcoal tone of the dial. Specs definitely go to the Hanhart. It has a more serviceable movement. And of course the case hardening for durability. But as a person who regularly hand winds their watches, I'm actually indifferent to screw-down crowns
Some considerations. I have the same (or v. similar) movement as the Hamilton, the Powermatic 80 in a Tissot and am happy with it, safe in the knowledge that if any problems do arise, it's a straight swap with any 2824 clone. Meanwhile the Hanhart does have a 2824 clone so should be fine. However, why don't they let me buy this design with their timing bezel? If Teutonic rigidity is your thing then fine, but it's a no from me. The Seiko is nice in theory but I've heard too many comments about QC issues with the 6R movements. I'd take the Seiko though given the price and put a tried and tested 7S26/4R/NH3x inside for a true GADA, beater watch. Perfection is indeed hard to attain or maybe I'm overthinking.
Hanhart is the winner here. Screw down crown is something very important actually. So 2nd is baby alpinist. Sorry hammy🤷🏻♂️
I personally like the look of the hamilton more - it subjectively appears more sophisticated. In all likelihood after 7 or more years you'll just send it in and wait (too long) and get it back with a new movement, regulated. At present I think that's $220 or something for a full service. Seems good to me, but some people like to keep the same movement for life I guess.
Gonna have to go with the hammi here
All solid choices but the king of this 38mm size and style is the IWC 3253, the Mark XV Spitfire Battle of Britain. Was a limited edition so now harder to find and pricey but such a well made, quality piece if looking for the premium option in this genre.
You're moving into another tier there altogether
We're in the ~ $1,000 watch range here
The Hanhart aesthetic is spoilt only by the cathedral hands. I know it's a heritage brand, but it's a very modern watch for which I think sword hands would be better. 🎉💃🏾 🕺 🎉
I love cathedral hands though
Agreed
Not a fan of cathedral hands at all.
Uh all of the watches being compared have cathedral hands
@@djhungzillacomment is still true
Hamilton all the way, that Hanhart is sexy though. That Seikois also very compelling.
Hamilton is Swatch-Group for USA- taste: Be happy!
💕
Hanhart wins! Sorry, not sorry. 😅😊
I prefer the hanhart for the material and aesthetics but I'm totally off 38 hour selitas. The game has moved on and they really need to update the sw200 or brands should offer the sw300
Hamilton in 38mm for me.
Upgrade the movt on the hamilton. Clear winner if that was the case. As of now, the hanhart is the winner with the higher beat movt, coating and style. The seiko is just milking the brand.
Movement and lume hold the Hamilton back; Seiko 6R35/55 are hit and miss in terms of accuracy and is tall; Hanhart should have on the fly micro adjust given the clasp size.
Its funny people have issues with the h-10, I have one of these and it is the most accurate watch I own. It is +1 seconds a day. I've worn it almost daily for the past year, it's remarkable compared even to more expensive watches.
A knowledgeable watchmaker should be able to regulate the Hamilton movement. No need to send it to Hamilton. There are 2 screws on the balance that need to be adjusted. Granted not as easy as a lever but doable. There are a few videos out there.
hanhart isnt anti magnetic
Alpinist should have to have lumed digits not only small dots. So it will become a real deal. Now it's looks cheap and not so attractive.
Hamilton loves to copy Hanhart...
