This is especially important for me right now. I'm actually dictating this response. I had a stroke a little over a month ago, and although I have recovered a great deal, I still have some problems with my right hand. When I type, my right hand is not as accurate as it used to be. I spend a lot of time fixing misspellings. That's why I'm working to learn as much about dictation mode as I can, and your video came at precisely the right time to help me improve. Thank you, Gary, for making this video!
wish you a swift and full recovery
There is a walkthrough for voice commands now. Or at least, I just noticed and used it. Learned a lot AND got my cat’s names spelled correctly 😊
Thank you for your help!!
Pardon my tardiness! A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary! 👏🏻❤️
For a new MacBook owner... For like six months now, am almost a pro user-- by just watching almost all your uploads even from way back before Monterey... Have even known almost all the new changes Ventura has to offer (usage wise) waiting for 13 update alert on my Mac before the end of October, I hope. Can't THANK YOU enough for the Job you're doing Educating iOS and Mac users THANK YOU once more.
Your love response is much appreciated.
Thanks. That interesting to know.
Thanks very much, Gary, for yet another very useful tutorial!
incredibly helpful, thank you
Thank you!
Thanks bunches
Thanks ,i have been waiting this for months.
thank you so much dude you're a god
Thanks Gary. I find this useful, especially when my native language is not available on iPhone but weirdly available on apple watch.
(Edit: I wrote the above fully in dictation mode because I was eating with hand)
Can't wait to check out the new macOS 😃
In iOS 16, while in dictation mode, you can simply type without breaking out of dictation mode. I also noted that commas and periods will be inserted automatically as I dictate.
Yes! And I've also noticed that if I ask a question as I dictate, iOS 16 is trying to listen to my context and add or suggest a "?." That's new
Since I upgraded to 16, my dictation hasn't worked. No one at Apple could figure it out. 3 weeks later, I talk to a support rep that said, "have you tried switching out the keyboard?". Uh.. no!!.. So I switched it to the UK keyboard and it started working. YAY. But now when dictating, funny stuff happens. It spells words differently, and when I (today) said "period", it spelled the word out instead of putting the dot. I figured out I now have to say "full stop". Made me laugh! :-D Can't wait to get my American keyboard back. Hopefully on the next update.
It should be noted that this mode only operates for US English, and does not operate for UK English, nor for Australian english as of 25 December 2023.
Thank you so much for your comment. You save me hours of searching.
Was hoping to be able to spell numbers out like 'one hundred ' instead of '100' .
I was was wondering when they would come out with spelling mode. One way they could enhance it is to use the international letter code: Alpha for A, Bravo for B, Charlie for C and so forth.
Great tutorial, Gary. I have enjoyed experimenting with the diction features from its beginning while it was buried in the settings. The diction feature in iOS seems to turn the first character of a sentence to lowercase unless you turn on auto-capitalization, a feature I hate using. Is this a feature or a bug? Thanks
Sounds like it is working as it should. If you want it to auto-capitalize, you need to turn it on.
🙏
Is there a way to train the iPhone to correctly spell the word automatically that it continuously misspells? For example, it always spells Ariel’s instead of aerials.
Just keep correcting it and it should catch on.
Isn't it available in ipad?
It should be.
Does voice control dictation perform auto-punctation on OS Ventura? The auto-punctuation works for me using normal dictation mode on an m1 mac, but when using voice control it does not add punctuation. Its a shame because you cannot access the spelling mode from the normal voice dictation and apparently you can't use auto-punctuation with voice control :(
No, that's a feature of regular dictation I believe.
@@macmost darn...maybe you could use your youtube powers of influence to get apple to fix ;)
@@ruperthart5190 No influence here at all. Use Apple's feedback form to let them know what you'd like to see.
I'm such an old-school keyboard user, I don't even use dictation mode!
When I use dictation (the one requiring the internet connection, not voice control), sometimes a text input field will become unresponsive after I push the key to turn on dictation. Other than that, it works pretty fast so I'm a little confused because I thought it might be an issue with my internet connectivity. Any ideas?
Could be. Do you usually have Internet issues?
@@macmostThanks for the reply. I don't think I do but I can't think of any other explanation for it. Might have to try a wired internet connection and see if that changes anything. Dictation has become a pretty important tool for me.
The 'spelling mode' is not available in my commands, do you know why? I have a 14 inch m1 mac pro and have updated to 13.0 Ventura.
Also, is there a way to switch on voice control without having the microphone icon permanently showing? I would love to be able to press the microphone button when I want to say a command.
What region and language are you set to? When you have Voice Control on, the mic control is always there
@@macmost region is UK and language is English - UK
@@ruperthart5190 According to Apple (www.apple.com/macos/ventura/features/) it is "Available in English (U.S.)."
@@macmost daym, this happened to me with Google pixel as well, thanks for your help :)
Quick question that I wondered if you could answer for me please. On these kinds of videos, you show a read circle on the video of what you are touching on your iPhone screen. Is there a setting on the iPhone that you need to enable to show this on screen recordings? Thanks.

I assume it only works in English?
For now. Apple usually adds more languages eventually.
