May I respectfully ask if the use of commas in the following sentences is correct? I know that we only use commas when the subordinating conjunction begins a sentence; whereas, no comma is applied when the SC is used in the middle of a sentence. But I was told by some professors that sometimes this rule is not applicable, especially for parenthetical elements. 1. Marissa went to the party, though her enemies would be there also. 2. I stay positive in the course of global health crises, despite the lack of support from the government.
Number one is correct. "Though her enemies would be there also" is parenthetical, but I could see an argument that claims it isn't. But to be most clear, I'd leave it the way it is. Number two is not correct. I would take out the comma there because I think that "despite the lack of support from the government" is essential to the overall meaning of the sentence. When your professor says that rules are sometimes not applicable, that's the curse of the English language. It often feels like every rule has exceptions. My basic rule is to always aim for clarity. Thanks for the question.
"Ludicrously lengthy linguistic leviathans" that's what my writing style is called LOL. Thanks this was very useful! Edit: I meant "Thanks, this was very useful!"
If your lost on the comma one my mom taught me just to put a comma where you pause reading. Example: I thought she was my friend, but. Notice how you might have stopped in that sentence?
@@liveandletlive2894 I think my sentence was wrong, I was meant to put " too. " Because too means when both of us get it, so I was meant to put " too. " ( too doesn't always mean that just in that sentence it does )
I wasn’t taught any of this stuff My parents gave me a bunch of Christian books and math and now I’m stupid af I’m deadass dumber than a 2nd grader I’m 15 btw I’m still homeschooled and this year I’m going to high school just to fail
Do you put a comma before and, all the time ?
Can you make this again but in English?
it is?
@@Eyguy its a joke 💀
@@Eyguyno its not
@@WesNavy You used improper grammar. "It's a joke" and not "Its a joke" which is possessive.
