I had a close relation with a guy like that, we were both in the military overseas, I'm black he is white. Then I was transferred to a new duty station, but it was a fun 2 years together. We kept in touch as best we could, but we ended up on different side of world. We both married and started our own families, but it was a blast serving with that guy.
In the age of the internet and especially during this pandemic... no better time to get back in touch. Maybe convince him to watch The Falcon and The Winter Soldier
