Great review, i have bought a dummy and have a DC-DC regulator that can input 9-36v and has constant output of DC9v 2A. The question is if the R5 can handle the 0,8v increase from a 7,2v battery or if the internal circuit in the camera will be fried. Any experience with higher than 7,2v input om the dummy on a EOS R5?
I'm not going to lean out the window and say much about this. I would have to check the voltage of what I currently am running and see if that works. But with the EOS R5? Why not use USB-C Power Delivery? That works while filming and all?
i bought a dummy battery and a ravpower power bank . worked great with all functions of a canon 5d.4....but when put in a canon R i can video but not use bulb....which is what i primarily want it for

Which is fine during lockdown as I just run a long cable outside. And hope it doesn't rain. Lol. So i then bought a power bank to free me of the mains electricity so I could go out on the cliffs etc when lock down ends. My power bank is 80w and 20000mah.... Fine on the 5D4....but not BULB on the eos R.... Bizarre

Hi, I am glad the video was helpful. With the products, it's always tricky as you already noticed. These things are often "unofficial" and thus they do not have an international brand name or product. So it is basically impossible for me to test them all and know exactly which one to recommend for you specifically. The only ideas I would have for you are: to check that you are sending enough power into the adapter (mine needs two USB plugs for example). And then I would contact the seller of your dummy battery and see if they can help you with the issue (maybe a replacement is needed). I hope you can find the right solution for your setup soon. Hello How can I make the camera not showing off after "x" minutes?(i don't press record,i'm only stay at the image with my face). I use canon2000d with camlink, and I put auto off in disable but.... the same camera goes in standby :(
@@ChrisSpieglBasically it is the display that goes into standby, consequently also on the monitor I see that the screen turns black. HDMI is always correctly connected, but the display going to standby, I must necessarily click the button on the camera to reactivate.

Hey, so I have a Cannon 5D Mark iii and bought a dummy battery that says it works with this camera but it does NOT have a flap I can squeeze the cord through so I can't power it on because I can't close the battery door. Is there any work around for this? Thanks again
Hello Jason, please have a closer look at your battery compartment on the Canon 5D Mark III. It most certainly has a little piece of rubber near the hand grip next to the battery door hinge. This is the one you have to kind of push out and then funnel the cable through so you can close the battery door. I have used this type of dummy battery with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and now with the Canon EOS R both had this battery door and flap for use with dummy batteries. I hope you will find it and can use your camera with the dummy.
Mine does not and it works great for many hours. Just be careful to only use the setup that you buy and don't try to link together some strange configurations.
I am not sure how it works. Does the camera have some internal circuits to ask for more voltage from powerbank? Because battery has nominal 7.4 volts, and default output from powerbank is 5 V which should not be sufficient. If the powered device is fast charge compatible, it can ask for 9 or 12 V from powerbank, but I don't think so this is the case.
@@ChrisSpiegl Using 2 usb ports should only supply more current. I am still confused. My 7D Mark 2 requires 8 volts, there is always converter to achieve that, but i do not see it in your setup. But I doubt it runs at 5 V, it has to be somehow (internaly) converted, or camera electronics asks for 9 V from powerbank (which usually is an upper limit of camera)

I would say that the difference you are speaking about is relatively normal. The 8V vs 7.2V is probably not going to fry your camera. Especially since you mentioned it is on the power outlet and not at the battery end. My issues came up with combining different products. If you bought one set and are using this set, then I think you are probably going to be ok.

Depends on what you want to power with it. Generally speaking USB ports have the same power delivery based on the USB standard so if you buy a power bank that has the necessary ports you should be good. 18W also should be enough. And 10Ah is like 4 internal batteries of the EOS R so that's how I would look at it.

Highly depends on the types of adapters you purchase and how much “tinkering” you do. The adapter featured when used as a unit from the shelf never bricked my camera. The story I was referring to is that I was tinkering with custom cables and not using the adapter in the unit I purchased it in. Has nothing to do with the use of adapters in general and everything to do with this tech being open to user error.

It's impossible to find good information on this stuff - there are few online reviews for any of the dummy batteries I'm looking at, and quite a few people saying they may brick your camera. Sorry if my frustration with this made me impolite. It's a stupid issue that should be fixed by the camera manufacturers, and it drives me nuts that I have to buy third-party stuff to make my camera fully functional.
the secret is running them empty every single time..... and charge them full again...... the batteries cannot survive long when you charge them at 30 to 50% life left...... shoot them empty !!!!!

Sadly, that is not the case for the Canon EOS R - it does charge via usb-c but only as long as it is turned off. 🥸

Will the canon rp power work forever with a canon DC coupler DR-E17 and a canon AC-E6N adaptor?
