    Wow, some very uninformed people spouting off in the comments (as usual). All of the highest level time attack cars are 'unreliable' compared to a car built to run actual races. These cars are tuned within an inch of their lives to try and get that one golden lap. They are the automotive version of the Olympic 100 meter dash athlete. Every system and subsystem on these cars is pushed to max with no headroom. And because of that they do break a lot. Also, the left foot brake tapping on the straights is to counter any pad knockback in the brakes and also make sure there is pedal and you haven't lost brakes. Finding that out at the end of a long fast straight is a rude process.

      Lol and who told u dis. Where did u get these facts from? Do u know all the time attack teams? Have u been in their shops? I hope u hav some good facts to back up wat ur saying. I am only talking about the engine tuning part just so u guys or girls know.

    • @engineerjmd3
      @engineerjmd3 4 роки тому

      @@davidchau3228 If you don't know the difference between a tune designed to make an engine last 100 laps reliably vs a tune on the bleeding edge that sacrifices any safety margins for every last bit of power, you don't know much. Time attack is in essence much like qualifying. Just look at F1 in the 80's when they had special engines for qualifying that were destroyed after 2 hot laps. My comment is not any kind of put down of any of these teams. Just the opposite. They are pushing things to the absolute edge of the cliff for that golden lap.

    The car was still being setup for Tsukuba circuit in this video so thats why it looks like the tyres may not have enough grip, the cars setup was causing some understeer problems. The car has another 4 to 5 seconds in it once they get their proper engine back in there. They had 3 engine failures over that week in testing and on race day. They will be back this year.

  • @prosportautonz

    bo093 was close. It's "knock off" as WRXJIM said, it's caused by the gyroscopic force of the rotors pushing on the brake pads when the wheels are turning. This is because of the floating rotors movement, and it pushes the pads back into the caliper. He taps the brake pedal to move the pads back onto the rotor face, so there is no soft pedal when he pushes the pedal next. You can eliminate this by running a strap drive floating rotor system. Awesome video!

  • @LukeHuxham

    You do realize in this video they were running an engine that was thrown together, their previous full tune engine had problems. They didn't get one single clean lap that whole event. They will be putting together a new engine, new aero and attacking it again. They were also over 2 seconds quicker on the back sector of Tsukuba circuit before their turbo piping split, thats already 2 seconds out of their lap time. They had many problems, 4-5 seconds can be chopped out of their time.

    Hey there man I just responded to Kalamity and saw your question. As I said before I don't claim to be an expert. But as a car corners at really high speeds the brake pads begin to become slightly misaligned, or spaced away from the rotors. I believe that by occasionally giving the brake pedal a tap the driver is able to rid of this space and allow for a pedal that isn't mushy because the brake pads are already along the rotor with little to no gap from contact.

    I would love to see what this thing could do on a faster track. The car looks like it has amazing downforce and those tires didnt seem to be able to keep up on the sharp turns. Or it was a simple mistake on turn 2. This thing seems like it easily had another second or 2 in it. Hats off to you guys.

    Getting on the power to early was giving understeer, if its a RWD car at Tsukuba you can get on the power real early but not so much in an AWD. This car was getting still getting setup in this hot lap you seen. Maybe you can give Tilton race team this advice in person at WTAC in Sydney, I can setup a meeting if you want to teach them?

    It's to be sure that the pads are as close as possible from the discs when you hit the pedal brake. With the vibrations it happens that the pads have pushed the brake pistons out of their position;

    The Tilton car was my favorite car to watch in the 2012 wtac, I was and am cheering for it, I just don't like data being treated as laps, no matter who the team is.
    I agree that a clean lap would have brought the time down, and the new aero and full boost will for sure bring the time down. I can't wait for that to happen.

    I understand but the Tilton car was at 50% of its full potential and it also did a lap that was 2 seconds faster in the last sector I believe before one of the intercooler hoses split, that was also on a make shift repaired engine. So that data backs up a 52-53 easy. This is all still on rough engine / tune. Like you said there is no 51 or 52 second lap yet but this car is very capable and the CT230R is a very old setup now days, I think many Japanese teams will have to step up their game.

    2012- U.Suzuki - 52.649
    2013- Tilton - 54.90
    Assumptions and Predictions are not lap records.... I see a 54.9 in the books.
    Can't wait for the new aero and more boost, maybe then, it will actually be faster than the ancient CT230r record.

    Yes this car was a bit unreliable, but that is not unusual for cars tuned to the limit. Also, Evo's held the record there for more like 11 years. The JUN Evo V, then the HKS CT230R. Both these cars were not highly modified at all compared to modern Time Attack cars especially the JUN Evo. The car in this video did a time just quicker than the JUN Evo, but if it went there now it may well break the record. And there are people who can afford to use a Porsche as a Time attack car, there are several in the UK right now for example. They are not however at the front of the field and have not posted any wins at any international events that i'm aware of..

  • @LukeHuxham
    @LukeHuxham  11 років тому

    They're not assumptions when you have calculated data read outs and sector times. This car cut 2 seconds in one section which would of lead it to a 52-53 lap before the intercooler hose split. Not assumption or prediction, fact. But problems happened and they will be back to set their goal lap time of 51-52 with a new and reliable engine.

  • @keviin05

    Slicks are the tires with the most contact surface between the car and the track. The less tire tread you have, the most contact you have between the tire and the road, so it's the opposite of what you probably think. Also, slick tires are most of the time made of very tender rubber, so the grip is even better. To make it easy to understand: SCLIKS: super tender + no tire tread = MEGA GRIP.
    Have a nice day.

    On such tight corners the rear tires easily push the front, cure with slightly harder rear tire compound or slightly thinner tires (or more tire pressure in the rear and less in the front). At least, that is what works in all the sims I drive.

    Considering Under-Suzuki laps it in 52 seconds with a rear wheel drive car that barely finds any traction and with an aero package that was not even 20% complete at the time of that 52 second lap. I think it's safe to say that that breaking into the 50's and 51's is not unrealistic at all when you have this type of AWD car and its running at it peak without the horrible problems that plagued them.
    I 100% think a 50-51 second lap is possible.

    To get the oil pressure to the brake pedal, to avoid a thinny "break-failing-gap" between the time he steps on the pedal and actually starts to break.
    This kind of trick, makes you be able to step later on the brakes without feraing to wait 2 tens of a second until the brakes start to brake.
    Most of prrofessionnal drivers take this little "advantages" in consideration.

Yes the aero is no way near complete and was going back under the knife completely. The car did not even have traction control which he will be setting up with the new ECU setup. So I'm really sorry to say this but Suzuki-Under will be breaking past the 52's and into the 51's or 50's and I see Tilton doing the same.

    Actually slicks are just tires with no tread as Zander was saying. They use them in all kinds of track racing, including Formula 1. But youre from the states so I dont blame you. They also use them on NASCAR tho I believe. Slicks are the best tires for turning except when it rains.

      All Time Attack cars are built and tuned to run at the limit, thus the brake check. Ask any LeMans driver why they heel-toe before a chicane...it's safety. And also, and only real drivers would know the definition of this...to transfer suspension load before the apex approach.
      Video games and posers can't teach that. Ask any real licensed track driver. I hold an SCCA license for a reason. Most who have posted here don't have a clue how to transition corners and manipulate a race car to turn in, even when it doesn't want to...whether poor grip, corner approach, lack of understanding trail-braking...etc etc
