it just proves that the serve is such a complex movement that even pros who know absolutely how to serve can't do it using another hand without training. Some are even holding a FH grip for it lol
Eubanks should have got the record with these mechanics. First I was surprised how badly they did, then I realized I would probably have a hard time hitting the ball square on.
Shows that the mechanics of a serve are very different. Also shows that you can only be good at something by training it. He said he practices that lefty forehand from time to time in training.
He has a two handed backhand, his left hand is used to some approximation of the mechanics and swing path. He never does any motion remotely like a serve with his left arm.
For anyone that hasn't tried the non dominant arm serve, it's amazing training for growing brain function and coordination! And if you do it the next time you're in a losing match...... you'll have a justifiable excuse your a** whooping! 😂
This makes me feel good. I remember hurting my right shoulder and playing leftie for a few weeks. Forehand felt fine, but backhand was atrocious. Serve was nonexistent.
@@liebebile6515 a lot of them know the rules. the pros change the serve a lot even after they become elite players. just compare how Djokovic serves back in 2007 to his current serve.
It is funny that they all had the waiters serve issue although they know the technical of serving with their regular arm. It must take thousands of hours of training. I feel better now as recreational player, and I will practice more on my serves.
I used to have a practice partner that us that was warming up against the wall using both hands. his left hand shits looked like his right hand ones. I think it's all about practice, Nadal played with his "weak" hand..My dad like most left handers at the time played right hand because that's how he was taught 🙄 I'm pretty sure pro tennis players already have most of the "cabling" ready to become very good players with both hands. but they probably won't take the time to do it. I think just a few pro players in history have regularly or used forehands on both sides serving with weak hand sounds like a gimmick because serving deuce or ad only changes +/-1.5% on the win rate. +/-3% for lefties maybe if a player never played backhand he could turn it into an advantage ? (no training backhand) but I still think backhand can be an advantage when returning a big serve or volleying a passing right on the body the mechanic to hit a back hand right in front of you is better than forehand if you don't have time to use foot work. one one hand(pun intended) making tennis symmetrical would be good for muscle balance but I would miss backhands, especially the single handed ones 😊
Rec players have a Waiter's Tray on the serve; very common problem. Pros never exhibit a Waiter's Tray on the serve. But it is interesting that many of them (not all) are hitting with a Waiter's Tray. The radar gun also seems slow as the serve at 01:42 looks faster than 63 mph.
except Eubanks, everyone is having a waiter tray serve. In reality, a beginner (juniors/adult newbies/untrained hand of elite players here) always starts serving with waiter tray characteristics. But the tray would usually go away gradually after a few months' proper training. It is only a chronic waiter tray if the player never bothers to train and use the same mechanics like they first learn the serve. I remember when I first learn to serve, I was hitting waiter tray serve with an Eastern forehand grip. But my coach kept fixing my wrong way and I kept forcing myself to hit with a continental grip in practice. 80% of the tray characteristics went away after 3 months. and then it became a completely "normal" serve after a year
@@Better_Call_Raul looks like Tommy Paul and Hurkacz are using a FH grip in the vid. Others continental grip. For those using proper grip, maybe with the exception of Shelton who flaps open the wrist completely, all are on the right track to the development of a proper serve with more practice.
@@markchan006 I think using the forehand grip almost guarantees the Waiter's Tray. All of them surely know what the proper Continental grip is. So have to assume they chose to use the forehand grip because it felt more comfortable and the Continental grip felt weak.
Legend says JJ Wolf is still serving to this day
serve snipe celly boys
😂
No wonder why we're not seeing him this year
I think Nadal would be pretty good at this challenge
Best comment ever
😂
He'd probably even be good at a right hand challenge 😋
Actually I think Shelton would be even better but he actually used his right hand if you noticed
I don't think people are understanding the comment - it's because Nadal throws right-handed.
it just proves that the serve is such a complex movement that even pros who know absolutely how to serve can't do it using another hand without training. Some are even holding a FH grip for it lol
True, I think they used a FH grip because it would be easier to coordinate than using conti
Most of us are awful even at throwing with our weaker hand. Serving is like that except with many additional technical complexities.
Eubanks' movement with his left hand is very good tho
that's like a 3.5 lefty serve. it looks smooth but the racket drop is a bit shallow
Noticed this, too. He was the only one with kind of good form.
Next step : ATP tournament, you have to play only left if you are righty and right if you are lefty. It will be the best comic show of the year.
i think people might literally die laughing 😂😂😂
And Nadal will win the tournament ! 😂
You don't have to pay money to see that. You can go to any public courts and see the exact same clown show you're describing for absolutely nothing.
They should play a Grand Slam like this 😂
when I saw shelton and humbert doing the "left handed serve challenge" I was a little confused 😂😂
Their off-hand serves are faster than many recreational players' regular serves. :D
Not too many, to be honest, and they're not going in much either.
Their wrong-handed serve still faster than my correct-handed serve 🤣
They should have an end of the year tournament of just atp players looking like beginners love it.
Left-Handed Serve Challenge Results
Shelton: 149 mph
Humbert: 135
Tommy Paul: 71
Go Tommy !
Legend says JJ Wolf is now a left handed player
Eubanks should have got the record with these mechanics. First I was surprised how badly they did, then I realized I would probably have a hard time hitting the ball square on.
Wolf has made a legit great passing shot with left hand, expected better from him.
That's what I was thinking.

I'm a 4.0 and I can hit a left-handed forehand in an emergency. It's not a great return but I've won a few points off it
Isn’t Tommy Paul actually left handed (but plays right)
Yes
Interestingly enough Tommy Paul writes lefty so maybe that’s why he was a little better with the lefty serve
shanghai master is different beast! all this amazing content, good job SHANGHAI~

I’m guessing from the comments that this video was initially titled as lefty serve challenge ? 😂
Lol you cannot be more leftie than Humbert apparently 😂
Eubanks has pretty good mechanics.
Their serves reminded me of MEP's
Wrong handed you mean. You literally started with a leftie with a monster serve.
Finally I get to serve like a pro
HUBI 🤩
Hubi
BWEEEH!!!
Andrey baby girl where did you get all this power in your hand?
interesting that they have a waiter serve on non-dominant hand even though they know well the rules how do a proper serve
they don't actually know the rules, they just know ho to do it instictively because they practiced it since childhood

Those guys have good potential to be a decent 4.0 with more practice and if someone can help them fix their mechanics

Isnt tommy left handed?
That’s probably why he did the best !
saved the best for one of the last rublev :)))
make sure next year to make all left servers to do with the right hand. Nadal would be good at that.
They did - Lefties Ben Shelton and Ugo Umbert were serving righty.
😂
0:59 can anybody plz tell me his name?
That's Mackenzie McDonald
Right-handed services are much better and more precise 🎾👌🙄
lol
Stop making Shelton a thing 😅😂 guy hasnt won anything yet
He is a punk
Well hes top 20 sooo
semifinals of a major isn't a small thing. do you even watch tennis? ffs, internet nobodies nowadays...
He's higher ranked than like half the players in this video lol.
