debapriyo ghosh sooo glad you included Blanchett because she is my favourite. Not many ppl agree with me but I gotta put Lawrence in there as well. Whenever she links up with O'Russell it's magic
debapriyo ghosh I think Rachel Weisz is an underutilized actress. She has an Oscar™, so the industry recognizes just how talented she is, but for some reason, she's never in as many films as she should be.
2023 and this will remain to be one of my favorite movies & books of all time. We don't have many survivors left but I pray their stories never die in history and we forever keep their stories alive.
Wow what a must see movie. This was a great way to teach our 3 girls about what happened during the war and learn about the heroes who helped save lives. So moving...
ii ii the polish call it the forgotten holocaust. While it is well known that Jews in Poland and elsewhere where persecuted and murdered, it is not widely known that many polish gentiles also suffered the same fate. I read that roughly a fifth of the population of Poland died by the wars end, victims not just of hitler, but of Stalin as well.
ii ii ever since I heard this movie was coming out, I've been very interested in Poland during World War Two and recently read a fascinating book about how critical the polish forces at home and abroad were to the allied victory. I think that if the poles who fought for the west had known that their supposed allies would only abandon their country to the Soviet Union in the end, they wouldn't have even bothered aiding them. The polish felt betrayed by the west, and I really can't say that I blame them.
This is such an amazing movie!!! And it's a true story which makes it more amazing!!! I cried my eyes out! Update 2021: even after all these years this movie still moves me... Ps they don't really show the animals getting killed, they cut to the scene. So people can stop complaining.
I feel like people need to be reminded of these past events, especially taking into consideration the direction in which the world seems determined to head down. Beautiful trailer, I'm definitely going to watch this one.
I have read the book and I cannot wait to see this movie. Jessica Chastain should win an Oscar already. She is one of the most versatile actress of today.
JPM Pranks Also, just giving Jessica Chastain a bad German accent in English doesn't make up for the fact that she should be speaking German in Germany. Duh! Totally unrealistic.
***** I mean there are always different sides of the story. Many Poles are heroes who risk their lives and many Poles also are horrible people who killed Jews to get their houses and property - especially in the rural areas. Poland is definitely not blamed for Holocaust in Israel if you want to know that. Poland is seen as biggest victim of Nazi Germany. In USA its a different story because general education in America isnt very good.
***** Because I live in Israel so I know better what they teach in schools and how people think. Many Israeli tourists visit Warsaw, Krakov, Gdansk every year and you dont even know about it. ;-)
***** They teach Poland was good home to Jews for a long time after they were persecuted and banned from Spain and Germany. They teach Polish kings were very tolerant for Jews and gave them some rights. Although Jews had a very hard life especially on farms, they were unable to own a land or dress like Poles. In XIXth and XXth centuries there was huge hate towards Jews in Poland who were blamed for communism. During war Poland was invaded by Germany and Russia. There were two uprisings, Warsaw and Ghetto Uprising, both failed. Poles from the cities, especially Warsaw were very brave and helped Jews. But Poles in the farms and rural areas often reported Jews to Germans and stole their houses and property. They really hated Jews. We know pogroms in Jedwabne etc. there were many like this. Polish farmers masacred women and children. They often raped women and little children like pedophiles (Pogrom w Szczuczynie, Pogrom w Radzilowie, Pogrom w Goniadzu, Pogrom w Wasoszu). Really inhuman crimes. After war nothing really changed. After all Pogrom Kielecki happened after war in 1946. Jews were blamed for communism so for their own safety they start to join communist parties or emigrate to Israel or USA.
but what about Native Americans history?? Hollywood needs to make movies for them too...first we gotta look how's things are working out in our home then we can look around in the neighbour hood and give advice
this is one of my favorite true story movies...... things like this just makes me hopeful that their just still might be some legacy of good and kindness in this world....... and i cant want for it to be released.....
OK. This feels like it's going to be another tearjerker. Won't be able to stand to see the animals getting killed though. It's going to be too emotional.
I mean... I don't disagree, but I will never understand how people can look back at the holocaust and the prominent emotion they feel is pity for animals :/ Is the torture of humans not more important?
monkiram, considering that humans are animals (courtesy of grade 5 science class) I'd say it's justified to pity the non-human animals. However, what makes the human deaths worse was HOW they died: slow and painfully.
I'm from Warsaw, and I dont want to spoil it to you the true story but... animals were executed by owners of the zoo to save them from pain and injuries after heavy German bombing.
Amazing, beautiful, touching story about the wonderful people - Jan and Antonina Żabińskis. Zoo director and his wife. They hid in a zoo of people who were chased by the Nazis. Of course the most were the ghetto inhabitants. And they were storage in the garden.
The pictures that Jessica Chastain posted to her instagram with the animals were really adorable. Made me kind of interested in the film. Now it really has my attention.
She was SO amazing in Crimson Peak, when an actor/actress plays the role so well and you forget about their other movie roles throughout the movie, it is most definitely TOP acting
I thought this whole movie was going to be how this lady and her family rescued animals and hid her their own zoo animals but it was a great movie 🎥 and that’s amazing what she and her family had done !! ♥️♥️
Base on a true story, a man who got killed by the 9/11 accident. coming on cinemas in 2047. based on a true story, a Muslim women who got evacuated from her home, America with no chances of hope. coming out on cinemas in 2048! man! majorities of all these based on true stories are almost 50 years old LOL
These stories are 75 years old so that there is no one in the theater who can remember how it really was. The Germans were bombing Poland to stop the pogroms that were being committed against the German people there. German families were being rounded up and massacred in Poland even though they had lived there for centures.
Your are an incredible idiot saying so, I do not know what country you are coming from but your knowledge of history is below any critics. Polish had massacred Germans ???????????? Haha haha haha so tell me Germans were also massacred in France, Norway Ukraine, Algieria, Libia Estonia, Russia and so on ???????? So they were in need of enter that country to protect Germans ??????
Jessica Chastain will totally getting nominated for an Academy Award for this. I am not sure if she will win but she has a good chance of winning best female actress in a drama movie.
not what i expected but amazing non the less my respect for the polish is increasing we have a lot here in wrexham and we clashed hard at first but now we see we are much alike, we all are.
This was one of the most powerful movies I have watched and I've seen quite a good few ones. I originally wanted to see this because I used to work at the Bronx Zoo and I know that people did live in the Bronx Zoo and houses that was my favorite job ever. I wasn't expecting that it was about the Holocaust I just didn't know I was picked it up on cable late in the evening I would not miss a single moment as I started watching it it's a part of history and I think everyone should see how strong and brave and to be honored righteous among the Nations for sure
Those poor innocent animals, this really happened, when we think about war, we never imagine there were zoos, clinics for mentally ill people, homes for elderly people, it's sad to imagine what these places had to endure. This family was onnored both by Poland and Israel, you can still visit this zoo today.
I have already seen this movie somehow. My Dad downloaded it off somewhere, it was a great film, it was very sad in places but I really enjoyed it overall. Jessica Chastain was amazing in it, I never once thought she looked fake or out of place.
kazim khan I'd love to see the story about the woman who went in ghettos as a plumber and snuck babies out in her work bag. She was found out in the end but that type of courage is respectable.

Chastain is easily one of the top 5 best actresses of right now
I don't know her accent in this trailer was awful... but yea I agree
Zed I found it cringe worthy as well but she's still phenomenal regardless
Jordan De Pass ....Yess, very true, along with Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman and Rachel Weisz.......one of the very best, Chastain is:)
debapriyo ghosh sooo glad you included Blanchett because she is my favourite. Not many ppl agree with me but I gotta put Lawrence in there as well. Whenever she links up with O'Russell it's magic

2023 and this will remain to be one of my favorite movies & books of all time. We don't have many survivors left but I pray their stories never die in history and we forever keep their stories alive.
I hope she gets nominated for an Oscar and finally wins it... she deserved it so many times before . Amazing actress
With the amount of movies she's been in is the amount of Oscar's she should have won.
Wow what a must see movie. This was a great way to teach our 3 girls about what happened during the war and learn about the heroes who helped save lives. So moving...
Polish people were hurt too. I'm so glad they're making this movie. I love people.

Jakub Piatkowski just because there were more of them doesn't mean that they all didn't suffer equally.
Jessica Chastain is the greatest actress of this generation
agree with you
Chill out there
This is such an amazing movie!!! And it's a true story which makes it more amazing!!! I cried my eyes out!
Update 2021: even after all these years this movie still moves me...

He's typecast now as the foreign enemy from Europe
JPM Pranks Daniel is the Nazi! his grandfather are Nazi soldiers LOL :P

Actually, according to the trailer, this takes place in Poland. Which makes it even more unrealistic.
JPM Pranks It's Weird Asf He Is Playing A Nazi Again
words can't describe how much I love Jessica Chastian
She looks like Eddie Redmayne in the Danish Girl
hahaha i was thinking about it
Brad Wright HA HA! And Eddie Reymayne looks like Jessica Chasten in The Danish Girl! lol
Watch them both on James Corden show and they mentioned something like that! LOL
LOL BOUT TO SAY THE SAME
Are you sure? I thought she looked more like Sean Penn in This Must be The Place.
The boy who played her son did such an amazing job in that role. What an actor, the looks in his eyes.
It's hard to belive..... such strong topic.... and Jessica. Amazing... people need to know the truth, how many Jews were rescued by polish heroes.
