@shopoholic5 Dasha showed that she is nipping at Zhenya's heels. I think it will be very close in the Olympics if they both perform well. I really like Dasha because I like how assertively she goes after each routine. Zhenya is more classical and refined. They're both amazing.

She could not. Kondakova injured her shoulder between worlds and the first competitions in 2012. She looked very bad, she could not fully train and when she got injured again a few months before the olys, she decided to retire (and she made the right choice. No way she could challenge the new russian juniors. She takes time to heal her shoulder and move on)

Maksymenko was an artist, a show girl. Dasha K was so dramatic and exquisite. But Kanaeva... I was never a fan of her gymnastics, sometimes she was a little boring to watch but i admit she was and is still the best there ever existed in this sport. A beast, a total genius. I dunno how can people say Kudryavtseva has more control or is generally better than Kanaeva, but we have to remember that Kudry is competing under a much "easier" code of points than Kanaeva was. Evgenia Kanaeva had it all, apparatus technique/handling totally accomplished and perfect, the most incredible leaps, absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking pivots, mature, dramatic expression... Kudry is a baby compared to Kanaeva.
I've only heard about her shoulder injury TBH. I'm not a huge fan of her so I did not search more information so I don't know. I only know she retired due to an injury
