Amen brother. I didn’t realize it at the time but Del is what made that game so special. It was that song that set the tone so early in the game and it just brought it all together and to this day is one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life.
Fuckin' love Del. Hes in the top 3 of GOAT mcees imo. Brilliantly intelligent, creative, quirky and authentic rapper. Cant wait to see him perform with heiroglyphics here in the uk this year.
THIS comment is what alternative hip hop/rap music is all about. Hip hop that rejects the mainstream stereotypes and appeals to those outside of the mainstream audience of the genre. Hip hop for stoners & hippies, punks & skaters, surrealists & backpackers, and the conscious or abstract. Hip hop for those looking for an "alternative" to gangsta rap and hardcore hip hop, or fans of other genres looking for a hip hop equivalent of their favorite genre.
Del is probably my favourite West Coast MC. Either him or Blu. Other MCs from the area had amazing rhyme schemes and flows, but Del always a unique allure.
I always had mad respect for Del for just being himself on the West Coast. Not riding the wave of what everyone else was doing or what is popular. Your video shed a light on so many things I didn't know about him and his music. Now I need to explore is catalog further. Thank you for this.
I went down the Del rabbit hole FOR REAL. When I discovered Del I bought everything he ever made. I imported Japanese only releases of future development and stuff.
I grew up in Berkeley and Oakland. Del used to work at the record store and skated all over the place. He used to scavange weed of movies at Peoples Park and MLK Park. None of Heiro acted like dicks and were always up to kick it and freestyle. Wonderful to see people appreciating East Bay rappers and hip hop. Believe it or not, there are some insanely amazing rappers in the east bay. We're known for rapping outside the box and chopping it up with rapid flow. Handsome Boy Modeling School has an amazing track with Del that you should definitely check out.
Super influential hip hop artist to me. This guy was the first hip hop artist that ever really drew me in and made me a fan. Del is probably 75% of my high-school soundtrack.
Del has been involved in so many great hip hop projects. Deltron 3030 is probably his greatest achievement overall though. Just an amazing work of art. A lot of people don't mention that Parallel Uni-Verses album but I thought it was dope as well. Some phenomenal beats and they both compliment each other well. Nice video.
Anyone watching this, just remember what Del said. You gotta wash yo ass if you must! You gotta wash yo hair if you must! You gotta brush yo teeth if you must, or else you'll be FUNKAYYYYY!
Great minidoc! It's interesting to me how 2 of the most prolific influential west coast underground rappers, Del & Myka 9, both have their origins ghostwriting for the most prolific gangster rap groups. Myka 9's 1st official album credit is from the song 'Scream' he wrote for the 1987 NWA debut, 'NWA & The Posse'. Myka would also go on to ghostwrite for Snoop Dogg's cousin RBX. Just as Del helped spearhead the Hiero movement, Myka helped spearhead the Good Life & Project Blowed movement.
Thank you for this. I was a huge delfin back in the 90s and no need for alarm was an Ultra classic for me. I hadn't kept up in a while so you gave me a lot to look forward to in checking out his last twenty or so years of music. Cheers
Glad you did a video on Del. He’s one of my favs. Just to throw a suggestion out there for your upcoming videos, you should do one for Estee Nack. He’s been dropping a lot of heat lately, especially his release with Griselda, “Nacksaw Jim Duggan”.
Great documentary! 3030 and Event2 are Del's Masterworks imho. I still re-visit the tracks on these albums often. 3030 was the perfect fusion of hip-hop and future dystopia, for me at least. Although as you said, Event2 didn't top 3030 (I'm not sure if that is even possible for the time travelling Deltron), there's still much to love within it, my favourites being 'What is this Loneliness?' and 'Do you remember?' Great to see Del (and friends!) still flowing rhymes with Manic Mondayz. Del came back ... he was always coming back!
5:55 The irony is that while Del definitely is legendary on Clint Eastwood, he wasn't supposed to be the rapper for this song, and just tried out for the position after someone else couldn't make it.
DJ Pooh did it first with I wish my brother George was here. Before Dre did the funkadelic reimagining of his career DJ Pooh had already done it. Respect! (Redman Whut Thee Album also proceeded the Chronic)
Great documentary! No Need For Alarm was one of the first albums I bought and has been a favorite. The Automator remix of "If You Must" is one of their best collaborations
Del, Wu, and Tribe at that time were all on top of their game. All 3 albums that came out that year were dope, unique, and guaranteed 100% classic hip hop. Del and Hieroglyphics brought out all types of fans it didn't matter if u were White, Black, Spanish or Asian. From Gangsta's to Skater's Del was being heard by all minus the Haters. Creative, Interesting, intelligent, and Comical on the mic keeps me coming back for more. Del's in his 50's and still coming off FUNKY AS EVA. ✌️ I'm Audi 5000 G. Yours truly, Mista Bob Dobalina🤩
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien needs his own cartoon, he has such a Animated Personality even before the Gorillaz days and I jus can’t help but gravitate towards that.
This time line is off. Del's 1st album was out before Da Lench Mob's album was released. Hiero was formed well prior to Del's second album too. They were a crew when Cube was with NWA. They appeared on Del's 1st album in the video, 'Sleepin on My Couch'. You'll see the logo in its original form. Still a cool video.
Tony Hawk? Let's talk about Hawk and skateboarding in general, because believe it or not, Thrasher Magazine had great write-ups on underground hip-hop circa '96-'98, including Hieroglyphics 'Third Eye Vision'. I always wanted it. Ended up hearing Del for the first time via Gorillaz and Deltron 3030. Oh well.
As for Tony Hawk, I saw him skate at an event around that time in CIncinnati as a teenager. There was another kid skating who had a Wu-Tang shirt on. It wasn't long after that I would get hip to them as well.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - Dropping into The Foundry while that funky bass pops on "If Ya Must" is a feeling that will never be duplicated.
Amen brother. I didn’t realize it at the time but Del is what made that game so special. It was that song that set the tone so early in the game and it just brought it all together and to this day is one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life.
Word up

As a non-gangster teen growing up in East Oakland in early 90s, Del was my hero even before his first record....

Do you remember the hip hop show at Cabot College in Hayward? I lived on 98th and Mac.
Del is probably my favourite West Coast MC. Either him or Blu. Other MCs from the area had amazing rhyme schemes and flows, but Del always a unique allure.
Same! Him and Chali 2na are my top Bay Area emcees
Del is the most down to earth normal superstar. He lives life like a regular person that’s what I like most about him
Del has easily one of the best flows ever. He always sounded smooth af
This is Del The Funky i appreciate this much love to you
Shout out to Del. My uncle introduced me to real hip hop as a child and appreciate it
Dude is Hip Hop, homiey has a very good discography. Wack MCs will always be in rotation on any Hip Hop playlist
I'm 52. One of my favorite songs in hip hop that never gets any attention is Eye Examination.
I always had mad respect for Del for just being himself on the West Coast. Not riding the wave of what everyone else was doing or what is popular. Your video shed a light on so many things I didn't know about him and his music. Now I need to explore is catalog further. Thank you for this.
I had no idea Del and Tame did an album together. RIP Tame!
I didn't know until Tame passed.
One of the truest to ever do it. "Both Sides of The Brain" is one of my all time favorite albums. The lyricism is impeccable.
Jaw Gymnastics still runs through my head... 🔥 🔥
I went down the Del rabbit hole FOR REAL. When I discovered Del I bought everything he ever made. I imported Japanese only releases of future development and stuff.
Not many come harder and more well crafted the DTFH... He is and will always be a LEGEND in Cali... Long Live HIERO!
Def my fave rapper still listen to his crew every day
Hi it's 3030 and we give it two thumbs up 👍👍
Amazing video covering the Funkiest Homosapien to ever do it. Big thanks for featuring many of my beats in this one, its greatly appreciated!
For sure!!
Before G Funk blew up, there was Del the Funky Homosapien
100 likes in 2 hours? Salute! You really got the real heads showing out for you
Only the beginning
Been down with Del since 93!
Del is for sure my fav underground MC of all time. 3030 is my fav underground album
Love how you break down people's careers. Introspective and informative but easy to follow.
Thank you!

Use to see him on Telegraph st in Berkeley all the time on his skateboard 🛹

Mistadobalina… Del is hands down, top 10 of all time. Great video!
Cut bob some slack! We know 99% of you brain washed hip hoppers will have no clue what Im saying.
Del is in my top 5 emcees ever! His flow is amazing. The work he did on Think Differently with the Marvin Gaye sample is crazy!

Very interesting point
First song I heard from Del is Mistadobalina and was a fan since.
I've been listening to del for over 20 years and I never knew he was related to Ice cube
Thank you for this. I was a huge delfin back in the 90s and no need for alarm was an Ultra classic for me. I hadn't kept up in a while so you gave me a lot to look forward to in checking out his last twenty or so years of music. Cheers

Del is so dope. Still dropping weekly songs on his youtube too.
My favorite number 1 hip-hop artist period
Thank you for putting people up on this era and style of music. I'm a fan of your videos. You Definitely do your homework. #hiero #townbiz
His contribution to the Judgement Night album switched me onto hip hop.
Great documentary!

All of Del's stuff is dope, but that Deltron 3030 album is something really special (the first one!). Great vid by the way.
No need for alarm is beyond classic. Excellent video bro
You got that right!

D-E-L and Hieroglyphics have done so much for Hip-Hop they need all the props.
Extremely extremely underrated
5:55 The irony is that while Del definitely is legendary on Clint Eastwood, he wasn't supposed to be the rapper for this song, and just tried out for the position after someone else couldn't make it.
Good little doc great work recognizing him. 💯
DJ Pooh did it first with I wish my brother George was here. Before Dre did the funkadelic reimagining of his career DJ Pooh had already done it. Respect! (Redman Whut Thee Album also proceeded the Chronic)
Deltron 3030 is a masterpiece of an album.
Hiero/Nickatina 🙏

Thanks for this. This helped me find a lot of stuff I missed and gave context to the earlier years that I didnt know about. Easy sub
🫡
I'm going to have to check out his later stuff. I really haven't heard anything from him since 3030.
Del is the Truth. I saw him in concert when he performed with Handsome Boy Modeling School
I can't wait for you to make a video about the group Cunninlynguists... I love this channel.
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien needs his own cartoon, he has such a Animated Personality even before the Gorillaz days and I jus can’t help but gravitate towards that.
Another great video! Keep em coming baby!
So dope brother 👌🏼

Great vid dude.
No Need For Alarm is magic.
Thanks! I love Del, but I love Pep Love even more.
Thank you for another amazing video.
Thanks for watching!
He's in my top 5. Besides his ill beats and lyrics, he is the first nerd rapper I knew. He is a big fan of video games and Sega.
Del is the man. Great doc. Liked and subbed.
Thank you!
Dude, please, you HAVE to make a kid koala video, that dude's everywhere and people don't even seem to notice. it's insane. Anyways, great video.

No need for alarm was DEL best album, ClasSICK!

Mr. Dabolina was my intro to del.
Speaking of thps games music, he worked with others featured in the games. Has he ever done a song with madlib?
It is damn fucking cool what you've been doing.
Thank you 🤝
I got that Golden era on vinyl 😎💯🙌🔥
Me gusto mucho este docu
Have you heard Del on the doc destruction track?
This time line is off. Del's 1st album was out before Da Lench Mob's album was released.
