Beautiful memories.. Back in 80's..in jorhat assam near district jail there was vaishanav temple.. Every evening.. Bhajan were played.. The sound of mradang jhanjh... Beautiful atmosphere.. 😊
This instrument is called sreekhol or khol, Mridanga may be looks like it but that has slightly closed and low end sound. The sreekhol has a gab and open hi end chanti thats why it has that open bell sound. Mridanga dosent has the gab. And also Mridanga is lot more familiar in South-Indian Classical music where's the sreekhol is lot more famiar in Bhajans, Bengali Folk, Rabindrasangeet, Devotional, Religious Music.. That open hi end of a chanti is also we can see in tabla and it signifies the essence of positivity in life.
Yrr bangal asaam sab main play karte hai north indian hum dhol aur dholak yaa dholki vi bajate hai vo thoda bada hota south asian midle east west asia tak dhol wajaya jata hai south main mirdengem kehte hai north main shehnai and south nadswaram lekin sare commen hote hai thoda sa hi difference hota apna apna culture ka music and songs hote hai 🙏🥰m
To all the Bengali speaking people, this Indian musical instrument is called Khol in Bangla. BUT IN SANSKRITA, IT IS CALLED AS MRIDANGA [MRIT (Earthen) + ANGA (Body)], since the body of this instrument is made of earth. SO IT IS CORRECTLY SAID AS MRIDANGA.

The girl was playing violin and tap dancing. She is amazing to watch. He was good matching her steps. It is hard to play violin or drums dancing. Overall it was great!
As mentioned in the title of the track.. the musician is playing a mrdanga (also known as khol) which is a popular instrument in Bengal. Mrdanga is often deemed as the poor man's tabla. The core body is made of clay. Mridangam which is a popular instrument from Southern India is made out of a jackfruit tree.
Wonderful to see and hear these young people having a positive effect with their time and talent ! Music is the universal language in this world ! Good Luck to the these younger artists.
That is a Kohl and not a mridangam. Kol is used in Chaitanya bhajans Very nicely done. Creative. Enjoyed. She is doing nice foot tap dance along with the playing!
Wow! This was such a brilliant idea and performance. Although it incorrectly says American violin, the musical roots are Celtic which, incidentally, has a history with Indian music.
I was filled with happiness and excitement as I watched him play the legendary musical instrument "Mridanga”, also called as "Khol”. It is one of the most important musical instruments here, since I come from Tripura. But one should keep in mind that, before playing Mridanga, it's essential to take your shoes off.
In traditional Hindu society, going barefoot is of prime importance. One way both rulers and ordinary folk pay respect to the temple deities is by approaching barefoot, a sign of respect, humility, and submissiveness. Since, Mridanga or Khol is a holy musical instrument, therefore it's necessary to be barefoot, while you play it. Regardless, it is solely dependent on one's personal will. Being barefoot is a way to pay your respect to this almighty instrument.🙏@@Pain53924

Its actually 'Khol', a longer version Mridangam used in Eastern India by Vaishnavites in 'Sangkeertan' a form of Bhajan.
You do know hes a Vishnava right? lol
Shri Khol

That girl was totally impressively
tremendous, not to mention the excellence of the mrdangam drummer.

It is Khol, being widely played in Bengal, Assam, Orissa, Manipur specially by the Vaishnavs.
