A Look at Cittaviveka Monastery | Chithurst | Western Forest Sangha | Ajahn Chan

Chithurst Buddhist Monastery is the first branch of the tradition of Ajahn Chah established in a Western country. When the English Sangha Trust bought the property for a sangha of forest monks led by Ajahn Sumedho, the house was in a derilict state, with only three rooms of this large traditional English country manor habitable.
For the first couple of years, the monks and lay community had to work exceptionally hard to completely renovate the building from roof to cellar, including all plumbing and electrics.
Later, the Dhamma Hall and Cloister were created on the site of a ruined coach-house, finally opeing in 2004. Their architecture follows in style the stone masonry of the existing house.
