I have heard of those who live in the 'snow belt' use the ashes from their fireplace and sprinkle it on the snow and ice to keep themselves from slipping

Good haul guys. Hope the knee is ok Jeremy. May want to ice it tonight and wrap it tomorrow. Guess Sam will be anxious to see what the Tooth Fairy is going to leave for her. Weather here in southern Ontario has perked up too. We are looking at 16 today and 14 for the next couple after. You guys stay safe and be well 👍.

If it hasn't already been suggested, a raised about 1-2 inches above the ground would be a good idea to install a home-made walkway to prevent slipping and falling in and around the Maple sap boiler. If not a ticking time bomb exists for the next time you both start cooking Sap, and somebody falling. Hope it is resolved, would be devastated to learn one of you two got injured in such a tight area to be around the heated surfaces of the boiler. Take care we have so many more videos in need of being watched from your channel!

The salt that you use for your water softener works the best and it only partially melts and then you can just sweep it up and put it away for next year works better than any other salt

I was taught not to include the ice from the collector buckets in the boil. I was taught that it is merely water and the sap does not freeze. It cuts boil time down to not boil the ice. YMMV up in Canada but here in the Adirondacks, we toss the ice on the ground. Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
Definitely no need to boil the ice down, we have the memory of a fish when doing things though haha :)

Jeremy that coat you have is the pattern called tree stand mossy oak does not make it any more they stoped it in the early 2000's. I have had someone make me a bedspread. With tree stand 20 years ago my favorite pattern if I was you get it drycleaned and sell it in the u.s. you should get top dollar there are a lot of collectors here p.s. you have a beautiful family your a lucky man take care of them Frank from montana...........

Take ashes out of the evaporator and put on the ice and water good for traction and it helps melt the ice.
glad Jeremy is ok. That looked painful. I know when I partially tore my rotator cuff that was so painful. Glad he didn't get burnt to. You could tell he wanted to curse but stopped himself.
Jeremy maybe consider putting gravel in the sugar shack .... as much as needed to get out of the water and ice
It really hurts when your knee pops. The bad part is as you get older it happens more. I really liked the coat you had on Ashley. Sam loves dad so much she ate the under cooked marshmellow so she wouldn’t hurt dads feelings. The things we do for love. Hope the tooth fairy gave you something nice for your first tooth Sam. You took that like a boss. For some reason all three of my kids were terrified when their teeth got loose and fell out. As soon as mine started to wiggle when i was a kid i played with it until it came out. We had penny candy stores all over where i lived and first thing in the morning after i got the tooth out that was were i’d be heading. Suprisingly i didn’t get my first cavity until i was 19. I hope you have the same luck.
You should have your friend dig you some kind of drainage ditch for your boiler. It will keep out the ice and the water in the spring and summer. Great video. Hope your leg is ok.
Happy you didn't got hurt to bad. And especially falling in boiling water it wouldn't have been a good day. Doing the same taping tree's cold at night and warm at daytime that's the best. It should pick up soon supposed to get nice weather. Great video and be careful. Not fun one time my knee lock up hurt like hell, you still young but i,m 50 and I find I get pain way more then before, it's life thanks for the upload

The first thing you should fix when all the ice and snow melts is the boil area floor area
Trying to figure out if it is Curler's knee or Hockey knee. Then I realized it's Boiler's knee. Some people have all the luck- a trick knee! I've got a hankering for some maple candy and mom's maple icing white cake. Oh boy!!! Great video! Thank you.
Hello I like your videos I use sawdust on the ice that gives you really good traction you're just lucky you didn't fall and grab the hot stove and burn the skin right off your hands be very careful take care

Jeremy you came close to placing your hand on that hot metal of the fire box when you were trying to catch your balance.
Your daughter is so cute reminds me of my daughter at that age. Don't fool around with your knee i injured my knee the same way back in 77 and after a number of surgeries I finally had a total knee replacement in October.

Great video. We got 20 litres of sap on Saturday, been warm every night well above zero at night and nada on Sunday, so hoping after this week and the full moon on 28th we see some action. Even around Mattawa its slow. We have rain today and almost zero snow. But made 600mls of syrup Saturday....keep it going Fred

No fair showing that GREAT French toast with your wonderful 100% maple syrup. Awful good looking daughter 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Hard life for you but GOOD. Thanks for coverage.
Easy to now, rather than later, put a 60 or 100 amp breaker in the house panel, to feed the garage; then put a main or else a sub panel in the garage. You'll want at least a 50 amp, so you can run a welder. You could even put a couple of electric heaters in, for when you need it.
In your trench,, make it deep enough, and you can run water out thete and shut it down in winter; also, a couple of extra pvc pipes for the future... phone, intercom, alarm, camera feeds, etc. So cheap and easy to put in now, for unforseen future use. Also, don't forget to run "sweeps" , not elbows underground; helps pulling wire, etc.
You could put a simple weather
Sensor on garage roof (taller than house), temp, wind speed, barometer...wires can run in the extra pvc you put in.
Also, use " chico" ( brand name), in the ends of pipes to prevent water condensation in the pvc.....after wires are run, around them, stuff newspaper, push in 3/4" inch, then pour chico on top to seal out humidity. Simple but effective to use., and can be broken out easily if you need to run more wires, or anything. Hey........Maple syrup looks great......neat to make it, and use it too..!!!!! @@jimmills4243 I know, but thete were tomrs, when I did something, where, later on, I wished I had done an extra step, which now was impossible. For example, you cannot put line voltage and sensors, or phone lines on the same conduit; hence, throw in an extra $40 piece of pcv, just in case. High and low voltage is against code, most anywhere. I am not criticizing, just using my yeats in vonstruction, to give helpful tips. Basically, they are doing great...!!!!

Buy yourself a knee brace and wear it. Ive been doing it for years as a precaution. You will go walking down a snow trail by yourself and if your knee pops out again you will be in snow country down on the ground.

You should be able to buy gloves they use to handle Liquid Nitrogen from you local supplier they are leather insulated or buy Welding Gloves stay safe take your gun out with you if Bears are due take care.

@@MBFModernHomesteading I can relate..I fractured my left kneecap as a kid and tore my mcl last year. It's a small tear and at my age isn't worth the surgery to fix it. A knee brace would help you until it heals..that can take a while.

Hey bub try the tactacam reveal cellular trail cam they will work in Canada they will pick up on your nationwide carrier there, check them out might be worth a try for you they send the pictures straight to your phone plus they store them on an SD card, you can get them in Verizon or AT&T.

We will keep that in mind, we shared a bit out on the boat last summer and a bit of camping but should do more.

Yes Birch can also but the ratio of sugar to water is 100:1 where the maples is 40:1 .
While your running electric to the garage you may want water out there to . Might as well put a water line in while your digging a ditch. I learned it the hard way.

No no Jeremy, don't go to the hospital or doctor for that knee problem because when you do they take this GREAT BIG needle out and want to put it in your knee. I ran as fast as I could out of there on my wonky knee, LOL. Peeked in a few buckets close to our house here in Hillsborough and they are running pretty good. We have had it a little milder than you though.

If someone doesn't want it so caramelized, (i love it dark)watch your heat your just trying to get the water out. I doesn't need to be boiled the entire time. It does cook off faster when its at a boil like in the video.
If you like it dark, and with full taste do not scour your pans...
