  • Have you ever bought a guitar based on the pictures you've seen online only to have it arrive and look entirely different in person?? Me too!!!
In this video I take a deep dive into 3 popular color groups for the Fender Stratocaster - greens, reds, and blues. I've got some nice Stratocasters from the American Vintage, American Vintage ii, AVRI, and Custom shop line of guitars to compare against each other.
Let's get up close and personal with these beautiful colors to see if we can give a good representation for how they'll look when you see them in person for the first time.
Colors covered in this video: Daphne Blue, Sonic Blue, Ocean Turquoise, Sea Foam Green, Surf Green, Sherwood Green, Fiesta Red, and Dakota Red.
    00 intro
    :32 Blues
    2:39 Reds
    4:07 Greens
    6:23 Blues vs. Greens

I finally saw the blue in Sonic Blue when it was beside the Sea Foam Green.

Thanks for this! I'm going to do a custom Strat build with a 24.75" scale length rosewood neck, and have been going crazy trying to pick the color I want, since I want this to be my forever strat lol. I've kind of changed my taste over the past few months after looking at so many. I'm down to either sonic blue or fiesta red with a mint pickguard. Runner up was transparent butterscotch blonde with a black pickguard.

@@learningguitar7948 man, that’s a tough one. The sonic blue strat that I have a the ‘thin skin’ so it’s a little whiter than others I’ve seen. Hard to beat a fiesta red though. Good luck!!

Loved your video. Thanks. If you ever feel like revisiting it, I would love to see the Whites and Bursts. All the best.

Thanks! Yes - in hindsight I should have included those colors. I have a really cool relic’d Olympic White strat that would have been worth showing. Too bad UA-cam doesn’t have an option for updating a video because it would only take me a few minutes to add that guitar. I’m still trying to get my hands on a worthy sunburst Strat. I don’t have one in my collection yet.

Very helpful. You have a lot of strats!

@@Csal43 thank you! I do indeed have a decent amount of strats. I look at them like a savings account I get to play with until I’m ready to cash them in.

Thanks, Nick, now we need a sound comparison 😎
Also note, I have a Mexican "Road Worn" Fiesta red Strat (awesome guitar) and it's looks much lighter than yours, although, I noticed that the color of yours fades to a brighter color as you pan up in the video. The color at the end looked much closer to mine.

Yeah I think the aged fiesta is indeed lighter in color. Is yours a 50’s road worn?

@@NickHandleyCreative Yes, with a neck from an American Vintage Hot Rod 62 Strat and lollar pickups, its an amazing guitar.

That’s awesome. I have the AVRI 62 hot rod too! I love the neck on that thing. It’s the chunkiest I’ve ever felt on a strat. I’ll bet that is an amazing custom guitar you have. The aged fiesta is a sweet color.

I always said the color was the only bad thing about my 93 deluxe plus Strat I got in 96. I call it butt ugly yellow (vintage blonde). But now 27 yrs later the wear is pretty cool for a never damaged work tool. Color didn't matter when I could play it before buying. But these days....

Oh man I love the vintage blonde color. I’ll get it looks amazing at nearly 30 years aged

@@NickHandleyCreative All worn down on the back and the ash veneer kinda blending through. I didn't like the color but absolutely love the guitar and now I wouldn't want anything else. Took yrs of playing to get it's workhorse look and amazingly nothing bad happened in all those yrs of whatever situation we were in. The saddles on the F/F Rose actually got a rusty worn down look on them that I don't believe could be replicated. But what do I know, I did my relic job 1 night at a time for so far 27 yrs. Guess I better not get a job in the custom shop L O L

My sonic blue strat has faded to a greenish white tinge over time. Kind of looks like the aged surf green strat now.

Fair point. Truth be told, at the moment I don’t own a sunburst strat. I’ll be showing this comment to my wife when I order a custom shop ‘64 in a sunburst finish…. “See honey, the internet made me do it” 😆😆

I'm NOT saying there's anything wrong with it, but seeing rock and roll guitar players playing these baby blanket color guitars - I don't think I'll ever get used to it. Seems like color choices have gone downhill from my tastes- the Silver Sky SE colors are a good example. They're not all baby pastels but they look like someone spilled white paint in the color can. The colors look washed out and not in a good relic way.

    • @NickHandleyCreative
      @NickHandleyCreative  4 місяці тому +1

Fair points. I do love a classic sunburst. Also love Olympic white and a nice piano black. I probably should have shown those in this video, but I suppose I figured those three colors don’t come with a whole lot of ambiguity, and I didn’t really have anything to compare them to.
In terms of the rock and roll players, fortunately for me rock isn’t really my style, so masculinity isn’t something I’m too concerned with…. ask my wife…. She’ll confirm 😆

Pastels are the best colors. I bought a Reverend Double Agent OG in orchid pink and I'm building a Sonic Blue Telecaster right now. They just make the guitars pop and there's nothing like having a soft looking guitar but playing drop tuned chugs on it.
