The fact that Caleb is sitting on the bench in the 4Q feeling sorry for himself shows the culture and lack of leadership on this team. Kyle Whittingham is the old master and Lincoln Riley is the young knave. This game exposed how much Lincoln Riley needs to learn and grow before he can become a real coach -- he's years away. We hired an apprentice (who doesn't have a master to develop him) but we are paying him master money. That is on us, we were not able to evaluate his abilities based upon his performance at Oklahoma, and we gave this young apprentice a $100 million, 10-year contract. Perhaps Bob Stoops was mentoring Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma and that may be why he performed so much better there. Right now we have a 7-5 or 6-6 apprentice with no one to develop him. Worse still, I am not entirely sure he realizes he is just an apprentice. He was promoted too quickly and he began to believe his hype. He is really just a quarterback coach.

OU fan here, after having lived through 5 years of Riley i can tell you that from 2017-2021 the team got progressively worse. A big reason why is he let Schmitty go after 2017 and brought in Wylie at S&C. In 2018 he got rid of Mike Stoops mid season. In 2019 he brought in Grinch. Turns out for a majority of the time they didn't tackle in practice. Grinch's D is so simplistic that the majority of guys who were here at OU last year had basically no defensive football IQ, which is why the D was so bad here. The players couldn't comprehend the system Venables brought in. Venables and the new coaches were shocked by the lack of basic understanding, physicallity, and tackling technique. Bob Stoops gifted Riley with a ferrari with Mayfield, Mark Andrews, Marquise Brown, several OL that went into the league and some defensive talent as well. And they got progressively worse through 2021.

When Williams finally decided to use his legs - rather than take sacks when no one's open, or throw balls away - SC at last put a scoring drive together, capped by his late TD run. But by then it was far too late. Williams' calamitous preseason Reprogramming to become a non-running, stay-in-the-pocket passer has sunk in too deeply, costing the former dual threat his bearings - and USC countless aborted downs, plays which used to instead wind up as Heisman-winner highlight-reel runs.
Defensively, the same old, coach-caused problems persisted - right up through the late scramble to get the first down and winning FG: tackling too high, and over-pursuit (on the game-clinching scramble it was Shaw who once again went flying by the runner instead of breaking down to make the tackle, or at least steer it inside).
Going for two-point conversions weren't bad calls - and in fact it was necessary after the go-ahead TD by Williams, whose mistake on the conversion attempt was heaving a desperate jump-ball instead of just scrambling around forever until something opened up. He wasn't in the clutches of any Utes, had plenty of field, and could have run back to his own 1-yard line if he pleased; it's not as Though Utah would have taken over on downs at the spot of the tackle.

It appears that Kyle Whittingham has been transforming Utah into what USC used to be in the past under Pete Carroll and further back in time. The Culture at USC has to be changed...I mean has to be CHANGED. The physicality on offense & DEFENSE, in particular the lines and at Linebacker (on defense), is a huge disparity not only against top PAC-12 teams,, but also the Top 'Blue Bloods' in the Country: Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Penn State, LSU. People need to stop judging with their feelings and be real about it. SC looks small, weak, and lacks tenacity., and they have to be called on it. 'YOU ARE WHAT YOU ARE' at this point. Maybe 8-4 or 7-5. Long live the days of Pete Carroll and those teams that took your heart out no matter where they played and stepped on it, while their family watched! Get physical and ditch this SCHEME, and do a nation wide search for some snot nosed lineman who want to dominate and play on the next LEVEL!!

After watching the last six games , I have come to the conclusion:
    Grinch has to go
Riley has to be only the head coach not the offensive coordinator . He can help with schemes but he is too involved to see the game properly.
If he was head coach , he would have run the ball more , not going for two points . Also seeing the Defense scheme for what it is .
He would have demanded to have the OC calm rhe shit out of CW and run the ball more , throw short passes and get rid of the ball . He seems to beholden to both Grinch and William . Why , they both need to direction and help . Riley play calling was shit all around . They the three are stubborn and stupid . Doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome .
