Use Ustad not Sir... Sir is a British term for paying respect, in the Indian sub continent for Muslims its Ustad for Hindus Pandit. Don't mind me man just correcting you because I really have nothing better to do....

The same tradition follows for folk musicians (Langas and Manganiars) in western Rajasthan where they sing and overwhelmed audiences (mostly Rajputs or Charans) go upstage and toss some notes. Unlike in South India COMMON musicians in north and west of subcontinent are from lower society and are usually poor. Although musicians like NFAK are classical singers but tradition continues as a token of appreciation of the their art.

@chalnikalnaa I think we all don't know each other good enough
I live in US and here Indian and Pakistanis are no different but when I go to Pakistan everyone is talking hate.
And I think the reason for this is that once we are far from our homeland and all of those politicians and we get time to actually see how we live and what we believe in we realize that both of us are same. We listen to same music, speak the same language, eat the same food and on the bottom line we are the same people.

How many classical and Sufi singers the world has seen? But non of them combined successfully both and got so much commercial success. He turned everything in to Gold.
Today Genius, God gifted is being used for some really average but he was the only true genius and there's no word to described what he was. I can only say that he was one of his own kind
    May God Bless how soul!

A pleasent surprise to see this song. Although i absolutely adore nusrat and have heard this bhajan/qawwali so many times yet whats so pleasent is the sanity in the comments section. Its simply adorable that unlike many other videos on youtube where people from both sides of the border spill out poison, every one is enjoying the music. Great job Hamid.
    Cheers!
May Allah bless Nusrats soul. Ameen.

    History:
This is an Indian Bhajan for sure and Nusrat sung this on his first visit to india (in an other recording) when he was invited and was given this bhajan by Indian Qawwals in text only format and Nusret was asked to sing it the way he like, as this is not easy to sing to be honest and MAN he does it to perfection..and before that QAWWALI was basically known to be an INDIAN Heritage.

I have met a lot people around the world, who dont know Urdu or Hindi but they used to listen Nusrat, and he is one of their favourite singer. Off course being Pakistani we are proud of him, he was our national asset and identity of Pakistan. I simply have no words to tribute him. I pray to god, may he rest in peace for his matchless work in Qawali music. Ameen.

Its traditional in Pakistan to show respect for the performers by giving money to them. Practice normally in the olden days but some older generation still practice it. It also use to be the only way artist use to make money to survive by doing concerts and if people like what they sang were often rewarded by giving money.

its so mesmerizing........... Nusrat saahab is so decent......his simplicity, dedication, efforts and charisma can be seen in all his performances..... being the lead man of the qawwali party he seems to be so down to earth and the co-ordination between them proves the hard work they put during practise sessions..
All of them are simply good....

Basic Urdu words like Mai Woh Tum Kaun Kya Kab Kaise and thousands of other words (and all of Urdu's grammar) is directly related to Sanskrit/Prakrit. If you want to deny that, you might as well just drop the language and start speaking Persian. Persian, for your information, is also a direct relative of Vedic Sanskrit and has no relation to Arabic.

I have tried practicing 4 Darood at a time.
    1. Zubaan Per
    2. Dil ki Dharkan Per
    3. Saanson Ki Maala Per
    4. Zehan Ke Andar Daira Ghoomata Ho aur har circle complete hone per aik Darood
I tried doing this, 4 Darood in each moment. Its hard but can be done if you do it in night and close your eyes and do it with concentration.

    great song and music.
BTW Urdu when spoken it just like Hindi, for the most part. Urdu actually came from Hindi and Persian but India, before independence, really embraced Urdu. It still does. Some of the best poetry in 1800 and 1900 was composed in Urdu. I think the song is very applicable to Meera's love for Sham. I wonder thats where it came from, the mideval age?

Its great to hear the names of Ram and Shyam from Muslims, music melts the man made boundaries of religion. Music touches the soul and it is the love that is going to prevail. May allah/ishwar/god bless everyone. Let us live with peace, love and respect for everyone. Nusrat is the king of music.

Nusrat is without doubt the greatest in his genre. There is only one music in this subcontinent call it whatever you want.Incidentally this one is a devotional song.I have heard & seen toshi & i think he is good. But he is abacha & it is unfair to him to compare him with GREAT Nusrat.

FYI the word "URDU" means lashkar ki zuban and it has been evolved by words of many languages, even sanskrit. However, it is mostly and prominently affected by Arabic and Persian, and considered language of Indian Muslims, it is sometimes considered it never took a word from sanskrit.

thaks for good info ranbazzz. by the way, qawwali is still basically indian tradition. when I say "indian" tradition, it means tradition of people of india, even before 1947, so obviously tradition of pakistan too. we have common tradition, even some some extremists deny this on both sides.

Dont boundary music by saying he was from pakistan...music goes far beyond a country's boundary...he was a god's gift to mankind.

His solo at the end, starting around 5:30 is utterly amazing...it is as if all the energy of the song builds to that very moment.
    Beautiful.
