I've had almost 100% success with your old method, I'm not new to loving figs but, new to growing them.. and your help, your information, has been so amazing.. I do see where your going with that,, especially with as many trees as you have, or you prune and have lots of cuttings... It does seem like it works.. when you up pot, you will loose some roots, I can see it saving time and recorces...
Fantastic content as always, you are THE fig boss! 🙂 Your tips are spot on, I killed a lot of cuttings in the past by overwatering, and switched to the bag method this year, so far so good. A couple of questions, please... 1. I used a 5:1 soil-to-water ratio, to take the guesswork out of "how much is too much moisture". Is that a good ratio? 2. What are your thoughts on bottom-watering? For example, just pouring a tiny amount of water into the bag, and letting it re-moisten that way
Love your videos, Ross, and I love that you are always learning and passing the information on to us. Question: I realize it is rather late but I am just recently rooting some cuttings in the regular in pot way. They are only in the pots maybe 2 weeks and some are already leafing out. They are not in direct light, are in very low light condition, but are leafing anyway and one even has a baby fig. Wondering if I should move them into light? In some ways I’m happy these cuttings really want to grow! But also don’t want them to get off to a bad start. P.S. I did use the plastic bag over the pot to keep in moisture but did not cover the cutting, just closed the bag around it.
Ross, I followed your hybrid method (3:00 thru 3:47) this year for the first time, using the same potting medium, same rooting hormone, same bags, same everything and I got only 12 of the 48 cuttings to grow some roots. the rest of the cuttings rotted. Very discouraging especially since I bought most of them from figbid for a pretty penny. cutting failures don't hurt as much when they are from your own cuttings, but it does sting after you spend almost $100 on cuttings
I had purchased fig cuttings in December. My husband said he put them in the fridge in a plastic bag with some moisture. Well he did not. I found them in the garage and have put them in pot keeping them moist on a little heat. Do they have a chance? I am banking on No
@@telasims233 he's not wrong. I have a mist system that drops a mist on my cuttings 5 times daily. If I have organic matter like compost or peat moss in the mix that holds too much moisture then my cuttings will rot.
@@slamrock17 Once the cutting starts to root and has first few leafs, since your growing medium is essentially sterile, how do you provide nutrients for continuing growth?
Question- First time propagating from cuttings when we pruned our fig tree. New subscriber here, haven’t checked if you have a video how you start your cuttings. Are these cuttings under the soil 3:45 ? Mine looks like I may have over watered them. I have 9 cuttings
Yes, this is the video from last year explaining the method: ua-cam.com/video/07VT6xuKguY/v-deo.htmlsi=_xpyyWBavfhWZBKF - it's the best method I've tried.

Great to hear!
You're looking really man-pretty today Ross. Great video like always. :)
I rooted a lot of fig cuttings this year. A lot of them rotted. But about forty survived and live well now.
Good info!!!

No need to water once they're in the bag assuming you premoistened properly. 5:1 should be good.
Great video Ross have you ever reviewed a fig called beer’s black
Yes. It's just another name for Violette de Bordeaux.
Thanks for the info I just bought a vdb tree
thats work for me only in spring time lol
How do you fight off the fungus gnats? Obviously the bag helps to keep them out, but the big pots seem open to them. Do you pre soak the soil with bt?
No fungus gnats with either method. Probably because I'm not watering for 8 weeks.

I can't say without seeing them. Feel free to send me photos.
@@RossRaddi will do, thx
I will do that this year. Except i will only use pearlite and vermiculite.

I think you need some soil to hold moisture for 8 weeks.
@@RossRaddi If you use a mist system the moisture is not an issue.
Are you going to transplant them when dormant or beforehand?
Definitely during the summer.
Thank you for the information 🤗
