Pete Johns I got this thanks for the recommendation and I’m off to watch your video!
Thanks man, fr! Needed this for a school assignment
Awesome. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Oh man. That tip about using the EQ volume instead of going back to hours of Automatisation is going to change my life, thanks a bunch!
Nice one! Very glad to hear.
Wow - I just love the sound of this song. You are really talented!
Thank you my friend. You can check out my music by searching “Pete Johns” on your favourite streaming platform.
I’ve watched several of your videos on GarageBand and they’ve been helpful even beyond the information I was searching for. Thanks much!

Thanks all! Great to see you all here!
I’m new to making music. This was super helpful!!! Thanks
Awesome! Glad to hear. Welcome to the community.
I suck so bad at this. I’m literally just going through making random changes on the visual EQ. 😩 Thank you again I’m about to dive into this video
Yep, it can be tricky to learn. Remember - listen first and decide if EQ changes are needed at all. If you don't hear anything unpleasant sticking out, you're often best to just leave it alone. I've seen a lot of good projects made worse by folks thinking they need to EQ things.
Pete Johns thank you so much for the tips!! I’ve really gotten a lot out of your videos while working on my first project!!
I love how u so authentic and enthusiastic, my favorite type of humans ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks my friend! Appreciate you taking the time to comment. And I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍

Thanks so much my friend. Really appreciate you taking the time comment. If there’s anything you are looking for that can’t find let me know.
Thank you. Subscribed. Been releasing albums I’ve recorded using GB and Sonic Port VX through my iPhone for the last four years. Never looked at EQ before (I know, I know) and really struggled with a guitar track that’s popping, so to speak. This is so helpful
Awesome!! Very glad to hear and welcome to the community. studiolivetoday.com/garageband.
Still struggling after a few hours of messing. Guess I’ll just keep at it - it’s all new I suppose
This video is amazing, also love the song , cant wait to hear more!
Thanks so much my friend. Check out all my music here. petejohns.com
Thanks man!! I've just recorded a song and am going to mess around with the EQs for the first time ever. Your video really helped explain it all.

Yup. Pretty amazing isn’t it?

In a good way or not so much? What were you expecting out of interest?
Hi Pete, can you direct me to more of your videos about eq in guitars, also if theres eq on the guitars amp or sim is there really much need to eq guitar ?
Yeah you don’t always need to do a lot of EQ on guitars. This video should give you some info - ua-cam.com/video/yUrR1KPQ2zU/v-deo.html
Nice one Pete
great stuff pete! i like the new song!
Cheers Todd! Appreciate your support and kind words my friend.
I’m nearly there with this one. Just about to start mastering. And just released a sneak peak of the latest version.

Cheers, sir. Learning a lot from your videos.

Hey you guys!!
👍😎🤘
Good video, how do you remove string squeaks?
Hey there. This is one that I struggle with quite a bit actually/ I like using the LRC5 EQ for this as you can pinpoint the frequency and then make a very narrow cut to reduce h squeak sound while keeping the rest of the frequency range.
ua-cam.com/video/Tkzhhlt5nhs/v-deo.html
Pete Johns thank you so much! I appreciate the help!
Thank you Pete for your inspiring tutorials! A question hopefully you could help me out: How to you "de-es" your vocal track after EQ? I realize after EQ, the "sssssss" in the track is getting way stronger than before (even after compresser). Do you have any suggest how to deal with this or any recommendation for Plug-ins? Sadlly Garageband iOS doesn't have "Deesser" :( Thank you in advance and please do make more videos!
Hey there. I actually tested out a de-easer in a recent show - ua-cam.com/video/W1w0rXna_PU/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks a lot Pete!
Will these features/ technique be the same when using garageband on iOS
Sorry just to clarify I'm just checking garage bands features are the same across all formats whether that be iPhone iPad or actually on Mac..(I don't work on mac so unsure, asking the question for a friend who's starting out)
Howdy. The Mac version has some differences but the iPad and iPhone versions (as shown in this video) are very similar.
I can’t find the button to get to the EQ stuff ( I’m on iPhone BTW ) a little help please?
Jump to the too right under the drop down menu and then hit the mixer if you’re on a smaller iPhone.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I’m on iPhone 8 Plus
Love your vids watch them all time for tips, question , do you keep the visual EQ for all instruments below or at 0? How much db boost can I use? Is there a standard?
Hey there. So there’s no real “rule” on this. Less is generally more when it comes to cuts and especially boosts, but that being said, if it needs 10dB - give it 10dB!
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks for reaching very kind. My issue is redlining. I used your FX master trick to EQ the hot red levels down to safe zone once I had them where I liked. I guess my question is how much can I push the drums into the red zone in relation to the other instruments before I bring them back down with the FX. In relation to the analyzer how far can the amplitude lines extend above the zero .? I know that the lower and 50 Hz to 80 Hz to 100 Hz it can be higher because you don’t hear it really the mid zones and the high end seem to be where the danger is
The new song sounds great.
Cheers Charles! I’ve just released a sneak peak of the latest version here - ua-cam.com/video/zoGkhIFgnXU/v-deo.html
Would just like to ask sir, what’s the number values on the most left part/left column when I turn on the analyzer? When it’s off, they are the same as the most right/right column, they represent the decibel gain in my observation but when I turn it on the left column it becomes a different set of numbers.
Hey there. So the analyser had the db and the frequency, so maybe it’s the frequency you’re seeing? I haven’t used this in a while to be honest. Maybe ask over at the GarageBand Users Facebook group. studiolivetoday.com/gbu
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks
I saw in a tutorial a while back from another studio guy that said to cut the bass completely out of all non bass instruments..including vocals..except for bass instruments such as bass guitar and the kick drum..what is your take on this..p.s. I’m also looking for a app GarageBand iOS that can show me visually if frequencies are to harshly or bassy before I upload to streaming service’s?…
Yeah not sure about an app like that? Maybe something to ask about at the GarageBand Users Facebook group? And yes - as mentioned in your other comment, LRC5 or LRC7 would be good to experiment to see if rolling off the bass would work for you. I don’t tend to bother but after that recent Warren Huart video I might experiment with this.
@@PeteJohnsMusic .. I just subscribed to his channel..oh my he’s got some long tutorials..oh well I’m going to explore some of his work as well thanks again Pete
Great Video
Do you ever need to EQ any of the touch instruments ?
Great question! I usually leave them pretty much alone, but at times it will cut some frequencies from virtual instruments more to make room for other instruments.
For example I was getting a little Tom much low end from an electro piano (virtual) playing chords so I rolled off the low end so it wasn’t competing with the bass for those low notes.
Downloaded the LRC5. Ended up downloading Final Touch, as well. Now I'm listening to my older songs and thinking all of them need adjusting 🤣
Haha! Isn’t that always the way? I think about remastering my old songs all the time too, but in my experience you are better off taking what you have learned and recording new songs.
Have you checked out my free complete Final Touch mastering course? ua-cam.com/play/PLc8Xg_23Wa576LHjLmYHbYtuxAObdbiBh.html
Can someone help? I use it on iPad and can't find the EQ feature, its not under track settings..
Should be there in your mixer section. Might be under a drop-down in the top right under "track controls". ua-cam.com/video/wUtsnmHZDDo/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic found it, thanks!
for some reason my visual iq analyzer isn’t working, anyone know what could be causing this?
Not sure sorry. Try closing all apps and turning off and back on.
ayo can you remove or lower vocals if so how, can you show pls
Hey there. Not using GarageBand very effectively. There are services such as the one I show in this video which can help - ua-cam.com/video/dUdOj0D-Mdk/v-deo.html
still replying 2 years later legend
Will keep doing it until I can’t !! 😎
My problem is my Sennheisser headphones sound very different than my Marley Speaker (I dont have studio monitors) so I keep getting inconsistencies.
Hey there. Yes, you his can be challenging. It’s a good idea to listen in different devices and then try to find a balance that sounds the best it can across all. Not always easy though.
this is man didn’t listen to the dude that told him not to buy weed at the gas station
Hey there. Didn’t you make this random comment once before? Might need to workshop some new material.
🙌🏾
Or maybe I should just use the LRC5 or LRC7 instead of the GarageBand eq
Yup. LRC5 or 7 would help with this.
Hello, Pete
It’s me again
I like to listen deep house so much.
In this video ua-cam.com/video/UAHaxlCe29E/v-deo.html from 1:08 until 2:40 it sounds like deep synthesizer or bass, I do not know exactly how it is called. Exactly deep. Have you dealt with this sound and how do i make it in GarageBand IOS?
Thanks for answer
Hi hats and snares really hurt my ears idk why
You may be sensitive to treble more so than bass. Everyone has different ears with different sensitivities
It’s dumb that you only get 3 bands and no filters. Unlike the Mac counterpart
Yeah it’s not perfect. I tend to prefer using LRC5 or LRC7 for this reason.
ua-cam.com/video/cVLgTYSIYYs/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic I also got LRC7, it’s pretty good. I just wish it also had a spectrum analyzer lol
