- Some fake autographs were found in 2022 Topps Definitive Baseball of Austin Meadows and Randy Arozarena. How will Fanatics respond to this issue now that they own Topps?

Meadows was traded by the Rays. It really should have been another player featured with Randy. Same signature patterns on both players. You can see the slant and characteristics on a few of the letters.
Same person signed. Font size and slant of letters. What a scam.
It’s crazy cause I remember seeing LaMelo’s full signatures on his draft picks cards while the cards with his NBA jerseys just have his initials. I hope these companies ain’t forging autographs.
Idk I believe the LaMelo auto. His draft picks auto looked like it was written by a child with his full name. I think he realized, shit, I'm gonna be signing a lot of these things, and just changed to LB

There is video evidence of Lamelo hand signing a basketball for a kid on UA-cam and he signs MB now. Both signatures are legit and have been debunked. LaMelo autos are real. MB is short for Melo Ball his nickname.

$2k a box is insane. I feel like the box breakers are the main reason these hobby prices are so high. Honestly, I don't know if they're a good thing or a horrible thing for the hobby. Personally, I stay out of breaks.

Breakers are a scam, they aren't paying even close to that per box.
They are. No one wants to blame them because a lot of people say it's exciting and good for the hobby, or they buy into breaks so they think it's good. However, where a card show might have paid $120 for a box from a distributor and sold it for $140-$160, now breakers are coming in and paying $180 or more for those same boxes. Card shops can't get product, and breaks can pay more because if you add up the cost of the spots in a break, it's way more than $180 and they are still making money. Multiply this and it just ups the cost of everything. I know a shop that basically went out of business because they couldn't get product anymore. People think breaking is fun, and it might be when you pull something great, but that's rare. If boxes were cheaper and they put that same money into a whole box, they would actually pull more stuff.

How these kinds of errors continue to be made by the manufacturers is mind boggling. How hard is it for them to have some sort of database or registry that contains examples of player autos that they can view during their QC process. Another prime example of card manufacturers/graders taking the piss with their customers yet still charging top dollar.

Unbelievable :( This industry has red flags everywhere. It' sad. I'm a big UFC & MLB fan and got into this industry during covid to have some fun, collect my fav athletes cards & gamble a bit on prospects, grading & reselling.
I always expect shadiness & scams by consumers but this fraud & lack of transparency by the big dog corporate suits make me want to quit this hobby all together. This shit sucks :(
I started collecting baseball jerseys, the quality of the nike replicas are insane and only cost $46. The Canadian ebay sellers have highest quality iny experience. Just an idea of another way to interact with the sport

That card should have never been shipped. The person who pulled the card should have opened a case with topps / fanatics instead of writing on it.
I've seen some box breaks and it's not worth 2k a box. You're lucky if you get half of the box and only get a trout, otani auto or a 1/1 big card.
Meadows looks similar to his 2011 Bowman auto. I cannot find anything on Randy though.
The fact that it’s so blatant and that they didn’t even try to actually forge their signatures makes me feel like it was an honest mistake. If not then Topps clearly thinks it’s customers are just as incompetent as they are.
How do you honestly put a fake autograph on a card?
IMO this should bring value to the older generations of Topps and Topps products, and everything that comes from 2022 going forward should be looked at like being fraudulent. That’s what happens when “wallstreet” comes to the market; everything goes to sh9t!

Before this Fanatic released, ZeroCool cards that looked like a kindergartener drew the photos of and after that was the Jackass release. Now this fake auto bull. Just a preview of what is to come, smh.

They are replacing the card with one of equal value and giving them a box of definitive. They said there's less than 50 like that. Saw all that on Twitter about 2 hours ago.

Arent these card companies supposed to send a rep to these signing, not just send a bunch of stickers/ cards out so who knows who can sign. Also I know athletes don’t live in the real world like we do but assuming they were getting paid $1000s to sign these if they didn’t isn’t this a serious fraud case ?? Shouldn’t they get in actual legal trouble
Well, people think the same person signed for both athletes, so it doesn't appear these were sent to the athletes.
Unless Austin Meadows signed them both, haha.
A.) No its long been accepted to send mail out and trust the players 99.9% are good about it
B.) No they don't as long as they replace the fake autos they still meet thiere contract
Yes they can get in legal trouble. Panini was suing ceedee lamb not too long ago for not fulfilling his redemptions for them. But this isn’t a player issue. These cards were never sent to athletes. Topps did this forgery in house. No other explanation even almost makes sense
PSA should authenticate all autos in a topps set. That would be nice
The funniest thing about all of this is that Meadows is not really a desired name in baseball and the guy he was traded for, Isaac Paredes, is having a significantly better season than him for the Rays in 2022

its sad where the hobby is going - $2000 for a product is not a collectible - its an investment.. you know if the police (FBI) wanted they could confiscate all the products from all the dealers at a show until a determination of authenticity is made. And topps (fanatics) could be sued for fraud
There’s still lower end products you can buy as a hobby . If people want to spend this much money on cards then let them . The products are for two totally different people

I've heard stories of players in the past using locker room attendants, ball boys etc. to answer mail. Maybe it's still a thing in '22

Card collecting to make money/investment is basically a combination of gambling or buying scratch off tickets and investing in stocks, so there should be stronger regulations in this 🧐👍

The problem is having a billion hits a year to push their product. Athletes are changing their signatures to quick lazy initials and a swipe of the pen bc they don’t want to sit there and sign 1000 autos every month.
We need less autos so they are rare again and bring down the prices of these insane products. Instead of first come first serve try do that whatever auction where they start them at 2-5k and just drop the price by 500 however often until it’s sold out.
The entire hobby has become tainted by instant gratification and greed

You have to remember that this cards are sticker autos. Guys have sign differently when guys have limited space to sign.
Look up all their autographs and find me anything similar.

There are lots of fake autos in products. A lot of signatures are clearly done by women (the players’ girlfriends or sisters I’m sure). Look at autographs of Carlton Davis of Tampa bay Bucs. About 80 percent of autos are in bubbly childish-looking cursive, the other 20% which I presume are legit, look completely different. That is just a very obvious example. Look his panini autos up on eBay and see for yourself

I don’t think it’s rigged at all. If someone new where the good cards were why would they go to a breaker? Wouldn’t they keep them for themselves? Layton has had bad cases and good cases. It all evens out.

Some 20-something year old *scammer* ,....employed by Fanatics was....err...umm...."responsible" for disbursing the remuneration & the stickers to Arozarena & Meadows. *INSTEAD* ,....the cunning-stunt went like _THIS_ ; said, employee-scammer.... *kept the money* ,...yet gave the _impression_ that the money/stickers were sent to the respective athletes,....signed *both* groups of stickers ( _clearly_ ,...the stickers were signed by the same, hand! Wasn't even smart enough to have a buddy/girlfriend/etc. sign the second group), and there we have the cards/autos in question. Might've taken a little "internal ingenuity" within the 4 walls of Fanatics to accomplish the shill, but nevertheless; clearly,...it was possible!!

Well half of my tops update (2 of them) was printed upside down. Meaning if they all stood up on front, and if you turned them all around, half of them are printed upside down... Smh tops.
