"I always appreciate your opinions... unless it is hate speech- I don't want that" made me lol (in a good way 😅)
The only good thing about JK Rowling is Harry Potter. I’ve never bought any of her other books. Harry Potter will always have a place on my bookshelves and in my heart no matter what JK Rowling says or does. She can spew hatred from her vile mouth all she wants but she can never change the meaning of Harry Potter which is “Love each other and yourself”.
Okay don’t judge me but I’ve actually thrown some books directly into the recycling bin 🙈 books I hated and heavily annotated and found offensive, I don’t feel like I need to donate those for others to spend money on and read. It felt wrong because of course I love books but it seemed the most eco friendly way to get rid of a book that I deem unreadable.
I have a Flowers in the Attic and Elon Musk biography that will have the same fate. IMO, they don’t deserve a free little library after leaving my shelf.
"They should be allowed to live their lives as the women they were destined to be" - That is such a lovely way to phrase it 💖 I'm not able to actually get books out of my home right now during the pandemic, but I did take my HP boxset and stick it under my bed, and it'll live there in the dark with the dust bunnies until.........fuck, God knows when. But at least they're off my shelves and out of my sight. And I actually loved Guernsey, it was a surprising 5 star read for me. The letter format worked really well, IMO, and I just found it so fun and charming (which sounds weird for a book set right after a war, but........)
Raúf's words break my heart. I thought better from her... I can't see how she doesn't understand protecting trans-women's rights also protects cis-women's rights. Her comments really sting, because She was another author I read with my nephew and her words make me so frustrated!!!!! Super glad you let us know about this! Also just love the video - getting rid of books is such a struggle!
I just want to thank you. I have a transgender child, they are ftm but transphobia is disgraceful. No need for the hatred or ignorance. I hate getting rid of books but I did because I will not tolerate any kind of hatred. Love your channel by the way. 🥰
happy for you to join us in the unhauling fun! I do feel the same way about unhauling my initial copies of Harry Potter because they were a gift and have dedications and everything in them.
I moved house last year and unhauled nearly 200 books, it was painful. And also less than half of the books I owned. Now I have so much less guilt about buying new books to fill all that empty shelf space!
I've always struggled to unhaul books until this year; I unhauled about 70 books in August/September and now I'm sort of addicted to it??? Also big yes to unhauling transphobic authors' books 👏👏
I need your unhauling addiction because I'm desperate for space now haha, but maybe I'll be like you and struggled at first but then can throw the books out at the drop of a hat
Thank you so much for this video, Gavin! My daughter is a transgender woman and she was extremely disappointed when she found out that J.K. Rowling was so transphobic. It means a lot to us that you are a trans supporter! Great unhaul! xoxo :D (Also, I loved the Guernsey book - it's one of my favorites. Give it a shot or just get a different copy. I have a non-movie cover and the book is so wonderful.)
@@GavinReadsItAll Can't wait to hear what you think! I actually had donated my copy, but I just went and bought another one because I wanted to read it again! :D
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one of my FAVORITE books ever!! I did enjoy the film, but much prefer the book as I think it has more charm and I prefer the characters in the book (plus there's a few characters left out in the film). If you're still on the fence about it I'd definitely say give it a go 😊✨
@@GavinReadsItAll I’m sorry to bud in but I want to second this comment! It’s so good and it’s incredibly easy and quick to read so that’s some sort of benefit lol

A lot of my neighbours have been putting boxes of books they've unhauled (or cleaned out as I suspect they've put it) outside the building I live in so people can grab stuff. I haven't done that because I don't really read the stuff I've seen them put out (mostly crime and literary fiction) so I need to sort out what to do with my unhauls too. Currently they live in the storage locker in the basement. I also didn't know Guernsey was an epistolary novel, that's my favourite so I'm adding that as one to check out soon!
Anyone who thinks trans women aren't women are just not worth time and attention, I don'tmake space for hate. I won't part with hp as the series itself, it is special to me in spite of her toxicity so I am not supporting her by purchasing anything by her now. Thanks for sharing your unhaul.

Gavin! Don't get rid of Guernsey! It's one of my favorite books, but I would recommend the audiobook for it. It's a full cast audiobook so it doesn't feel as choppy as epistolary novels can be.
Oh, I loved the The Gaurnsey book! It’s all through letters so that’s a different experience but I love books written in that format. I also felt like the movie was adapted in a great way.

Wicked is one of my all time favorite musicals ("For Good" is one of the songs I send to my best friend whenever it plays because I always think of her), but I loathe the book. Elphaba is forever stuck on a cart in Munchkin land for me because that's where I gave up (she was there way too long for me to have any hope for the rest of the book). I lost my Harry Potter collection along with 90% of my books a few months ago due to damages, I won't be replacing them. SO disappointing and why I could never re read that book despite enjoying it when I read it last year. I can’t overlook it. I hope she changes her mind on trans women, I really do!

I too have some difficulty, but have managed to get books I did not like to the places necessary. I have the original cover of Wicked and have enjoyed the story, so I have to wonder if people like the play more than the book. I have never seen the play, but I'm sure it's good. Still love The Walking Dead, but there are some that have stopped watching, but the books are good if you still love that world, if not don't force it. Also, if you ever want to read those books again you can go to the library and check them out. No shame in that. 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would say give the gurnsey and potato peel pie society a chance. I really liked it. It doesn't differ to much from the film but it gives you more back story of the character that Jessica brown Findlay played in the film. I can't remember her name off the top of my head
The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society is really good - I don't usually read books like this but I couldn't put it down and flew through it - still have to watch the movie so can't say how much alike they might be
It's not a Netflix produced movie, don't blame them. 😀 I really liked the movie but all these comments about the book makes me want to give it a try, and I guess I'm glad I didn't read it before the movie.
I really enjoyed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, even though I’m not a fan of epistolary novels either. I read the book first and then watched the movie - and I like the book wayyyyy more than the movie (I think I gave it 5 stars actually). Hope this helps with your choice ;)
I’m with you on hating Leah. I have Leah on the Offbeat and I want to read it because I want to finish the Simonverse but I just don’t like Leah at all so I haven’t been able to bring myself to yet 😂
the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society, it is my favorite book of 2020, as soon as I finished it, I convinced my best friend to buy it for her. I vote for it to stay. Besos from Buenos Aires. 💋
I only get rid of books I've read because I only have enough room for 1 shelve of books but its double stacked I read 6 and then get 2 more of anything I fancy and that's how I get my book shelves refreshed and keep the space, I also have a tbr pile in my bedroom in a pigeon hole. it makes me laugh when you talk about infinity son because you dont lie your just like I really hated it it was awful 🤣 and leah on the off beat "I only read it because I had to"🤣. thirteen reasons why confused me soo much I couldn't keep up and I liked the movie of the Guernsey literature and the potatoe peal pie as I I have family in Guernsey and enjoyed the plot of it and it reminded me of my childhood xx

Cant explain how much I love your intro😂its also so nice to have a fellow northerner being on booktube
Yay hello fellow Northerner!!
The spider thing is the most relatable thing in this world.
It's spider season apparently!
@@GavinReadsItAll If I see a spider I ran out of the room screaming😂
You are just a darling 😊
I could just imagine you running around trying to catch that spider, to be fair I wouldn’t be brave enough 😂
@@headinthebooks904 I did freak out but I was still talking to Sophie Anderson after my live with her on Friday so I couldn't run downstairs and get the spider catcher in time and then it disappeared haha
@@GavinReadsItAll ah I hate when they disappear its like a waking nightmare, hope you find it so you can film in peace 😂 loved the live as well 🔥
I did really enjoy the Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society. I read it at the end of last year and it was just a cute and pretty fast read.
I unhauled the Boy at The Back of the Class for the same reason! No sentimental attachment so out it went!
Love it!!
That's true, I think my local library has only just re-opened since lockdown, so it's a great option, thanks ❤️
I would say give the gurnsey and potato peel pie society a chance. I really liked it. It doesn't differ to much from the film but it gives you more back story of the character that Jessica brown Findlay played in the film. I can't remember her name off the top of my head
I think I will give it a chance!
I heard The Binding and my soul just collapsed...especially cause that edition is so pretty!
Don't worry, I will still treasure my hardback of it forever and ever
@@GavinReadsItAll I needed to hear that, thank you.
Please, don't unhaul the Gernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society!!! I absolutely loved it!! Xxx
I think I'm gonna end up keeping it x
Maybe the spider moved from the library to another room?
The nearest room is my bedroom 👀
You are a beautiful person for making this video, thank you so much
Well said about Rowling.
The midnight hour is such a great book.
Namaste Gavin, gosh so many books!!!Loved the Frozen collection at the back.🥰🥰🥰
Thank you 🥰
The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society is really good - I don't usually read books like this but I couldn't put it down and flew through it - still have to watch the movie so can't say how much alike they might be
I’m gonna end up keeping it now I think, glad you enjoyed it so much!
Gregory Maguire is sad bc the premises are awesome and the writing is inflated and pretentious 😭
That's what I've heard, so no point even trying his books haha
I respect you SO much Gavin I just wanna say one thing about the JKR thing: don't listen to Karen
WTF THAT SPIDER IS ENORMOUS OH MY GOD BURN THE HOUSE DOWN....!!!!!!!!!!!
bahahah "to be fair, this book ruined itself." 🤣
I love the book Thirteen Reasons Why. I think it is a wonderfully written book.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a great book. WAY better than the Netflix movie. Netflix changed a LOT!
It's not a Netflix produced movie, don't blame them. 😀 I really liked the movie but all these comments about the book makes me want to give it a try, and I guess I'm glad I didn't read it before the movie.
Your spider catcher!!! 🥺🖤🖤
It's a life saver
I really enjoyed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, even though I’m not a fan of epistolary novels either. I read the book first and then watched the movie - and I like the book wayyyyy more than the movie (I think I gave it 5 stars actually). Hope this helps with your choice ;)
Thank you, it does!
I’m with you on hating Leah. I have Leah on the Offbeat and I want to read it because I want to finish the Simonverse but I just don’t like Leah at all so I haven’t been able to bring myself to yet 😂
We read the potato society book for book club this year and we loved it!! Definitely recommend reading it so many unique characters
Ooo thanks for hyping me for it!
the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society, it is my favorite book of 2020, as soon as I finished it, I convinced my best friend to buy it for her. I vote for it to stay. Besos from Buenos Aires. 💋
Ayy I think I'm gonna end up keeping it
Ooo infinity son is on my TBR 😅
Best of luck haha
we love a healthy unhaul
So detoxing
"This book ruined itself" 😂😂😂 now imagining a book ripping itself up and scribbling in its own pages!
I was checking if you read Anna Ruhe and that was a first video. I got so worried lol
That cover of Ready player one😍
Right?!
Gavin! That spider is ridiculously HUGE!!
RIGHT?! And it’s disappeared and I have no idea where it went 😭
@@GavinReadsItAll I think it’s time to move 😅
I just bought 2 big book shelves so I'm in the opposite situation! WHICH IS SO FUN! Although I'm spending way too much money on Amazon :D
Okay, so I'm checking out your rants immediately. 😂
😂 enjoy!!
Im so excited for ready player two
Same!! I hope it lives up to our expectations
Thank you for standing up for the trans community!! We have no choice but to stan!!!
Trans rights are human rights 💖
Yes to everything you said in the first minute.... yikes....
Aw I think I'm gonna keep Guernsey xx
@@GavinReadsItAll if you ever get chance to go it's a beautiful place xx
Unhauls are so inspiring. I always unhaul at least 1 book after watching an unhaul video! lol
Haha yeah I need to unhaul way more
