I’m getting ready to adopt a puppy who will be about 8 weeks old when I get her, but my cat is 13 years old. I will definitely be buying the door stoppers and I’m going to let her sleep on the puppy’s bed before she comes home. I’m definitely going to binge watching puppy training videos for sure! I’ve already got Feliway diffusers for my cat. And a snuggle stuffed puppy with a heartbeat for the puppy when she gets home.
I love love your channel you have so much energy and you truly love what you’re doing. Can you please do some more videos about puppies and working full time please!!
Try pet borrowing websites like "borrow my doggy".. Not sure where in the world you are but you can volunteer to walk or babysit people's dogs through sites like those 😁
My husband is coming back home from a trip down south with our new puppy, I’m super excited but also felt the need to start getting ready for the intro😅 Man I’m really hoping it doesn’t have a strong prey drive because we have a farm and chickens and we were hoping the dog would be able to help us with the predators around here😂
We have a stray dog - Vet checked already for a chip - no chip. My Husband was backing out of the driveway when he saw a dog sitting at the end of the driveway - he stopped, got out - did not see any dog, but when he was getting back in the car the dog was laying on the floor of the front seat. Since she is in heat she is safe in our fenced in front yard (we live in SW Arizona & have Coyotes, stray dogs who run away when they see us & stray cats on occasion). She is in heat about a year old and hyper active. We have eight cats 7 to 10 years old - set in their ways. The cats are in the Master bedroom connected to the master bath connected to the Laundry room - so they have 3 rooms - but are extremely unhappy. This dog (Lexi) is medium sized - looks like Border Collie mixed with Husky because of the blue eyes & curled tail over her back. She wants to get to the cats but too hyper for them to accept. We will be getting a muzzle today for safety sake for both cats & dog. Have been working on early training methods like sit, stay, etc. As soon as we can control this hyper activity embedded in this dog then we can proceed with introducing the cats. She has learned to return the ball (which took a few days) when we throw it for exercise. She loves it. She has stopped peeing in the house & does ask to go out when she has to go. We have a notice out with a picture at our local Animal group based on Facebook. No one has come forth yet about losing this dog. Our area is known for being a dumping ground for dogs & cats that people do not want anymore. So we are working on her training & obedience even though my Husband keeps mentioning "maybe we should contact Animal Control" & my reply is "NO - we need to give her at least a month to adjust to our home & cats & obedience training first". Besides all the rescues & Animal Control are so full now because of people not wanting their animals. It is so sad. We have an appointment Dec.16th for her to be spayed with all shots. So, the cats will have to learn to be more patient for their own safety. Judi
Is it possible to reintroduce them after trying theses tips? I made the mistake of doing it right away (8 wk old toy Aussie vs 5 yr old cat)and it didn't go well.
We’re getting a puppy in a week or so and we have two cats. There are actually gates with cat flaps built in and we got two of those hopefully they help
This was so amazing cause I have a cat that I think is 4 to 5 maybe 6 I can't really keep count but we just got 2 new puppies that are terrier mixed and I need them to except eachother so far the good thing is I've let them sniff eachother and my cat hasn't hissed YET so far!
Hi Rachel! Me and my family got a puppy a little over 3 months ago now, and we didn’t really introduce our puppy to our cat very well, so now whenever lola (the puppy) sees pheobe (the cat), lola chases her away. Any tips on how to control this? Love the vids!
Question: Right now, one of our major safe spaces for our cats is our bedroom. Where would I put the puppy, if we were crate training? I was under the impression that I would want to put the puppy near me, so I can listen in case they needed to go outside during the night. Or does that not become a major issue - just make sure they're getting out plenty during the day and hopefully they sleep through the night?
Take them out once every . Don’t give them any water or food 2-3 hours before bed. Take them out right before they sleep and you should only have to wake up once thru out the night to take them out.
We also have a black cat 🐈⬛ who is not a fan of our new puppy! He’s about 8 months & our 2 year old tabby is pretty iffy about the pup as well. Hoping this video will help❤️. Also, my puppy 🐶 has the same dragon toy, it’s her fave 😂.
I’m getting a beagle and I wondering if my dog and my neighbors dog will get along because their dog is pretty big and my dog will be small because it is going to be a beagle tell me what you think I should do to introduce them
Hi Rachel, I love your videos! I have a question for you, do you think it's okay to have a cat and dog that has the same gender? My uncle has a dog and cat and their both males and they get along fine.
Rachel. We have a papillon/ chauwawa mix. And 4 cats. He goes after one in particular constantly humping and biting her. He is not neutered yet he just turned a year. What can we do to stop this behavior? It leads to a very stressful day
So my family got our puppy recently and I hadn’t prepared at all, my cat is 13 and we had a dog before and the cat HATED IT and now my cat hates the new puppy. Our puppy is rather aggressive and seems to be like what u described of wanting toy play aggressively with the cat. Our cat seems to be constantly stressed around her and the only safe space we have is my room. I really don’t know what I should do since they have already meet
I can get my dog and cat to relax in the same room when I am watching them. But the moment I am not watching, the dog can suddenly start to chase the cat. I don't always notice the cat every time he decides to come to the living room. So what's the next step for them to get along when I am not there?
I completely fluffed up and my cats are not feeling the new puppy. I didn’t even think that they needed proper introduction. Now my phone cat Cleo hisses non stop at him and my younger cat Oliver is just afraid. He doesn’t hiss but he’s very flighty around the puppy. Can I fix this??
I really need help with this So I got my 🐕 when I was 12 didn't know anything before and now I'm 14 My 🐕 is now big and I didn't train him when it was little so my question is... Is it still possible for me to train my 🐕 right??
Yes it is it just might take more time and practice but with the right attitude anything is possible. I suggest keeping treats in the living room and during ad brakes you can do some training. But I am not professional that is just what has worked for me
So ... What do I do at night? My cat always sleeps on the bed with me, so I don't want to just block him out and make him associate the puppy with negative things (i.e., I don't get to have my usual resources when puppy is around). But I also want to keep the puppy near the bed so that I can crate train, potty train, and help comfort him during the night. How do I reconcile those competing issues?
I’m adopting a puppy in a week. I’m feeling a lot of guilt because my 3 year old cat has been the center of my attention since he was a kitten. A lot of the swapping of the spaces require you to not pay attention to one of the animals. Since I dont think I can leave the puppy alone, I’m not sure how to balance interacting with them both separately
@@amandaramirez5295 We are about a month in now and it gets better everyday! My cat has been around dogs before and even puppies, but not puppies bigger than him. The puppy loves him but can sometimes be too rough so I really work with her on 'leave it' or keep her leash on in case I need to pull her away. He also tells her when he has had enough which is important. My cat also has free range to most of the house while the puppy only has kitchen and living room access. I have a standing pet gate up (purchased from Homegoods) which I leave ajar for the cat to wander in and out of those areas as he pleases. I do feel like I'm stretched a little more but I make time to cuddle him and play with him while she is in her crate and in the mornings/night. The puppy just started official training so I hope as she calms down, my cat will feel more comfortable and we can all hangout.
do you have any suggestions on how to convince your parents to get a dog from a shelter? my parents are convinced that since some shelter dogs had bad lives they are aggressive :((
How are things now? Just ask the shelter volunteers to explain and maybe try an online adoption site like dot finder or Craigslist or Facebook instead then
I've had a big dog for a little over a month... First dog for the cats.... Cats are still terrified of dog.😢 Any ideas on how to help the cats? Or maybe too big of a dog for first dog? When to acknowledge that maybe our cats just aren't gonna adjust to dog? I feel bad that everyone is just going back and forth in gates without a lot of progress. Maybe too much visual through gate...?
I honestly should have watched this video as soon as we got out puppy ! I feel like I’ve handled their introduction completely wrong 🤦🏼♀️ & hope we can get to some place manageable . I have an 9 month old playful husky and 2 female cats 5year and 11 month. The 5 year is very territorial and tries to charge at the dog and the 11 month is curious but runs away . Thank you for sharing this !! I will incorporate these techniques and hope that they start to get along or at least try not to attack each other lol
@@TheRealDonDiesel Yes! They are now able to coexist and even fall asleep in the same living room, they don't cuddle, but they at least let their guard down to sleep. I try to make sure they all respect each other's boundaries. They are not friends yet, but the cats keep their distance and stand their ground when the dog gets too close or too playful with them. I'm glad I watched this video and applied those techniques.
Hi Rachel! Long time no see! I haven't checked out in a awhile I have just changed my UA-cam name I'm Hxiley or simplyyhxiley. - Have safe spaces for the cats where the dog CANNOT go. After a while swap safe spaces to get scents. 3-5 days - Teach TOUCH command (to get cat to come to hand) to get them away from chasing cats - let cat smell puppy on you on objects same with dog smelling cat - let them sniff and see each through door if the dog is too excited about the cat at the other side of door keep training touch - walk through the house on lead walk past the cats door and give them treats so they give you the attention and you become more exciting than the cats - keep opening the crack of the door more - when the dog does not care about the cats block the door from the dog but make it available for the cats to come out when ready. - Make sure the dog has had mental and physical exercise so they are not crazy for the cats - high value treats if the dog responds to touch or if they look at you and not the cat
So I have a cat and he is petrified of dogs he is 15 and he’s an outdoor cat so my question is how to get your cat not to run away when we get a dog because I feel like he will run away if we get one?It would help a lot if u could answer this!!😆😺#Saveallthedamdogs
Hi Rachel! I need some advice for my family’s 5 month puppy. So we have a dog and a puppy, our puppy always eat our dogs 💩! What should we do about this disgusting habit? 😬
My friend brought her dog over without telling me a little after i got my 2 kittens and then she let it off leash into my house and it’s a very untrained 2yr old hyper mini goldendoodle and it chased my cats and wouldn’t stop and that was the first and only time i’ve heard my cats hiss. My other friend is getting a new puppy and we’ve come up with a training plan for us to introduce the puppy to the cats properly for ✨proper socialization purposes✨ for all the animals lol
My cat is definitely dog friendly. She's never had a problem with any dog we brought in the home and she loves our dog Tilly. But cats? She HATES them. I will not get another cat till she's gone because she just can't stand them 😅
I have a new kitten. my jack Russell Gracey and kitten Raven had their first hissy fit. thank you for the tips. Gracey seems almost depressed as I am paying more attention to Raven who is adjusting to our home. I am worried Gracey is going to resent me and we have such a strong bon. our chihuahua wants nothing to do with kitty Raven. yikes! I need a cat psychologist.
My cat doesn't care for anyone that isn't me and he perfers lots of time outside . How do I introduce with those parameters? I tried putting them in a small room . Pup was calm and only a little curious . But when the cat growled ,he walked away and won't come near anymore.
my cat will be 5 this year, when my sister brought her old kitten over to my house he would hiss and then “swing” at me when he smelt the kittens scent on me. how will i know he won’t do that to my new puppy? (my puppy is gonna live with my bf for the simple fact). i just wanna make sure domino (my cat) won’t be aggressive toward him.
I know this doesn't apply but I wondered if you can tell me how I can get my older cat to stop peeing on my bed. He is actually doing it while I am sleeping. He has lost his life long cat friend who was recently put to sleep and I was caring for my son's dog for a long time until he could get an apartment that would accept dogs, so now he is very alone. I work all day and not sure I should get another dog and I really don't want another cat. If you have any suggestions. I am not allowing him in the bedroom while I am out, but since he is now alone, he is so needy and wants to be around me all the time, so I been letting him sleep with me. But I can't keep washing sheets. Please any suggestions?

Can someone give me advice? My new dog is already very well behaved and pays no attention to the cats. But our apartment is tiny basically one room and a kitchen ( which is also tiny like a few feet only) . But the cats are s really skittish and freak out at any sound of movement even if the dog gets up to drink they bolt and are terrified. Like the dog cannot do any batter she ingores them completely unless approached and even the is very calm and waits. But the cats are terrified of her move at all even if it's on the other side of the room.
@kbail thank you it's been a year since we got her and they got used to each other and now their the best of friend with one of them and the other cat just doesn't mind her anymore 😃
We made zero prep for the cats to meet the dog. Made probably the worst intro possible and just dropped the puppy in front of the cat. It's been 3 weeks and the cats still hiss at the puppy. Help! Lol! How do we reset?
Sorry, but didn't you say in another video that the crate should be in your bedroom in the beginning? So if you have a cat, should he be in the bedroom or the dog crate?
Huge thanks for methods of introducing my new puppy, Circe, to Major the cat ! Unfortunately, I was advised to just let them meet on day 1 and they'll sort it out. Good news: even though Major weighs only 10# and Circe is coming up on 20#, Major has total control; Bad news: the more victories Major scores, the more determined Circe becomes in pursuing him … now I'll be going back to square 1-getting Circe to focus on me. She's 17 weeks old and very stubborn. Are you familiar with the Koehler Method ? I've used parts of it with great success and parts … not so much !
I have to look away. I start off, honestly wanting to learn. But when I watch this, I start looking at her beauty and hear bla bla. But when I did catch what she was saying, she talks a lot of sense and is very caring, helpful.
I say this as constructive criticism. Not to be nasty... I am so very turned off by Rachel's product peddling. I used to feel like she was talking to ME and giving ME tips.... I feel less community and more commercial.

Im bringing a 9 week Goldendoodle home to my 2 year Egyptian Mau.. im nervous but so excited! Hope they like each other haha
😬
Thanks for making a video on this I have a (bossy) 2 year old cat and i'm getting a dog in 4 months so i have been looking on how to help them get along/not fight
And a snuggle stuffed puppy with a heartbeat for the puppy when she gets home.
this is amazing I am getting a dog and have a 8 month old cat to introduce very helpful
I love love your channel you have so much energy and you truly love what you’re doing. Can you please do some more videos about puppies and working full time please!!
I love your vids Rachel!!! you make me smile every day :)
Very beautiful home
You inspire me sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!
Hi Rachel!! I love your channel even though I don’t have a dog ( I really wish I did though!)
Try pet borrowing websites like "borrow my doggy".. Not sure where in the world you are but you can volunteer to walk or babysit people's dogs through sites like those 😁
My husband is coming back home from a trip down south with our new puppy, I’m super excited but also felt the need to start getting ready for the intro😅 Man I’m really hoping it doesn’t have a strong prey drive because we have a farm and chickens and we were hoping the dog would be able to help us with the predators around here😂
8:00 omg, two days!!! Wally is such a fast learner 🤩
Judi
Do they get along now?
Is it possible to reintroduce them after trying theses tips? I made the mistake of doing it right away (8 wk old toy Aussie vs 5 yr old cat)and it didn't go well.
Great video. I didn’t see the baby gate linked. If you can’t find that then what’s the brand name. I love that gate. Thanks!!
Do you recommend to bring the dogs scent home for the cat to get used to the puppy’s scent?
We’re getting a puppy in a week or so and we have two cats. There are actually gates with cat flaps built in and we got two of those hopefully they help
how did it go!?
@@dlbaio1 hello! It’s going okay. The puppy chases the cats less now but she is mostly confined to her playpen.
This was so amazing cause I have a cat that I think is 4 to 5 maybe 6 I can't really keep count but we just got 2 new puppies that are terrier mixed and I need them to except eachother so far the good thing is I've let them sniff eachother and my cat hasn't hissed YET so far!
Great! Thanks for the info 🙂
Where did your mom get the play pen from for the large openings
I’m getting a second dog hopefully 😁😁😁
It leads to a very stressful day
Hello Linda how’s the weather over there
I bet. Having 1 dog and 4 cats sounds like alot of work
So my family got our puppy recently and I hadn’t prepared at all, my cat is 13 and we had a dog before and the cat HATED IT and now my cat hates the new puppy. Our puppy is rather aggressive and seems to be like what u described of wanting toy play aggressively with the cat. Our cat seems to be constantly stressed around her and the only safe space we have is my room. I really don’t know what I should do since they have already meet
Did you find a solution???
I can get my dog and cat to relax in the same room when I am watching them. But the moment I am not watching, the dog can suddenly start to chase the cat. I don't always notice the cat every time he decides to come to the living room. So what's the next step for them to get along when I am not there?
Rachel can u please do a vid on off lead training. Love u so much💕
#saveallthedamndogs
I completely fluffed up and my cats are not feeling the new puppy. I didn’t even think that they needed proper introduction. Now my phone cat Cleo hisses non stop at him and my younger cat Oliver is just afraid. He doesn’t hiss but he’s very flighty around the puppy. Can I fix this??
Did you find a solution?
My cat sleeps in my bed with me, so do I lock the puppy away at night? I want to get them both used to sleeping next to me
I really need help with this
So I got my 🐕 when I was 12 didn't know anything before and now I'm 14
My 🐕 is now big and I didn't train him when it was little so my question is...
Is it still possible for me to train my 🐕 right??
Yes it is it just might take more time and practice but with the right attitude anything is possible. I suggest keeping treats in the living room and during ad brakes you can do some training. But I am not professional that is just what has worked for me
Yes it is! Look up Zak George on UA-cam his videos are very helpful for dog training.
@Oofers Duckers Yep!
Lol
Kiko pup is also AMAZING!
You could make the cat feel safer and have the puppy seperated in a different room or just outside the room so you can still monitor them both
I’m adopting a puppy in a week.
Hi! I’m in the same boat. My cat is so attached to me and I know it’s going to be a big transition for her. How’d it go for you, if I may ask?
The puppy just started official training so I hope as she calms down, my cat will feel more comfortable and we can all hangout.
do you have any suggestions on how to convince your parents to get a dog from a shelter? my parents are convinced that since some shelter dogs had bad lives they are aggressive :((
Same!
How are things now? Just ask the shelter volunteers to explain and maybe try an online adoption site like dot finder or Craigslist or Facebook instead then
And they’re correct, well not aggressive, but most shelter dogs will suffer from behavioural issues 🤷♂️
Fucking amazing!!!! Thank you so much for this. Very clear, concise and informational
Did you have any luck with your cats and dog getting along?
@@TheRealDonDiesel Yes! They are now able to coexist and even fall asleep in the same living room, they don't cuddle, but they at least let their guard down to sleep. I try to make sure they all respect each other's boundaries. They are not friends yet, but the cats keep their distance and stand their ground when the dog gets too close or too playful with them. I'm glad I watched this video and applied those techniques.
And my aunt has an old not potty train Maltese is it possible for me to train her?
How do you correct nipping on an 8 wk old lab
Hi Rachel! Long time no see!
I haven't checked out in a awhile I have just changed my UA-cam name I'm Hxiley or simplyyhxiley. I have some very sad news I had 4 puppies that I loved and adored and they have died and my parents said I can get another one next year!and there have been so much storms in the Philippines so I wanted to ask if you could make a puppy emergency bag video!
Wally is so cute btw💛💛
Very good idea!!!!😺
@@bellag-r821 Thank you!
This helps a lot, because I have a dog loving cat, but idk if the dog I want is a cat loving dog
Our cat is use to yhe roam all around the house 😉 if we will lock her somewhere she will get crazy withput us. Any tips for that? Also shelter will provide us only with one baby gate - to secure our balcony. Any tips for this?
Hi, Rachel thanks for your reply. I was commenting to you that plz tell my parents to give me a puppy, but you didn't reply. I was like why Rachel not see ate. but now you reply I feel so satisfied. thank you so much and my parents are finally convinced. it took some effort but now they are finally convinced. thanks to my best friend she helps me a lot Frostelle Builds. love you so much. and finally thanks to your channel. now I end here because if I am typing this it will not be an comment it will like a thanksgiving letter.
- Have safe spaces for the cats where the dog CANNOT go. After a while swap safe spaces to get scents. 3-5 days
- Teach TOUCH command (to get cat to come to hand) to get them away from chasing cats
- let cat smell puppy on you on objects same with dog smelling cat
- let them sniff and see each through door if the dog is too excited about the cat at the other side of door keep training touch
- walk through the house on lead walk past the cats door and give them treats so they give you the attention and you become more exciting than the cats
- keep opening the crack of the door more
- when the dog does not care about the cats block the door from the dog but make it available for the cats to come out when ready.
- Make sure the dog has had mental and physical exercise so they are not crazy for the cats
- high value treats if the dog responds to touch or if they look at you and not the cat
Often times they eat poop because they have a nutritional deficiency. What are you feeding your dog/puppy?
@@mackingcheese The same kibble the breeder was feeding him.
So do you know what it is? It’s fine if you don’t.

Hello Melissa how’s the weather over there
Rachel what’s the best dog food under about $2 per pound?
I really like "nature's recipe". It may be just a little bit out of your price range, though.
My cat is definitely dog friendly. She's never had a problem with any dog we brought in the home and she loves our dog Tilly. But cats? She HATES them. I will not get another cat till she's gone because she just can't stand them 😅
When I got my puppy I was too tired and busy to do any introduction properly, they just figured out themselves lol
It’s so much easier with a puppy than a full grown dog
I loved this video so so much that I put this video of my UA-cam playlist....👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I’m bummed she never answered you. I hope everything worked out.
Hello Gina how’s the weather over there
Do you think she sees you responsible? And I would say get a older kitten or a smaller breed of dog
They'll be friends in a week
My puppy wakes up every hour to pee lol I wish she slept like, even 5 hours😂😭

hi
Love the video Rachel and so Thankful that @thedoorbuddy has been a helpful took during the introduction of the puppy with the sweet kitties!
Hey Rachel love you videos.. what the link to the exact collar Wally is wearing ?
what do you do if you've had the dog first
Can we have a house tour
Where is the list I'd love to buy a couple of things through your website..
How about pinning a comment with the list?
What kind of dog is Wallie?
HI rachel im first i just got a goldendoodle any tips
Worst thing is my new puppy is smaller then my cats so it won’t work 😫
Hello Emilia how’s the weather over there
Can someone give me advice?
I have rabbits and I’m gonna get a dog, will this still work?
i wish i seen this video earlier , my cat hisses and growls at my new puppy..
Talk slowly thanks🤗😘
Please stop throwing your hands into the camera. To viewers, it looks like you are slapping their faces.
Sorry the talking is just to fast !
Can’t keep up with it...
You talk so fast. Gives me anxiety
I have to look away. I start off, honestly wanting to learn. But when I watch this, I start looking at her beauty and hear bla bla. But when I did catch what she was saying, she talks a lot of sense and is very caring, helpful.
This is a weird thing to say lol
I say this as constructive criticism. Not to be nasty... I am so very turned off by Rachel's product peddling. I used to feel like she was talking to ME and giving ME tips.... I feel less community and more commercial.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt this way!
