he once did an interview with Mike Murphy on the arts show. and he sounded very bitter on it. and more or less said if I can recall that he wanted to leave Ireland and not come back.
at the Jacob awards he called albert Reynolds a Longford knacker on live TV. which killed his career in RTÉ. there was something really angry deep down about Morgan. about the way Ireland was run. or something. no one could put their finger on it. and it remains a mystery. Morgan also dined the people he slagged off. the axed news comedy quiz he did before he became father Ted was called newshounds. two episodes were done but RTÉ decided to axe the show and the pilot has never been broadcast. some film of it exists and it bears an uncanny resemblance to hignfy.
Then he discovered Albert was born in Strokestown(perfect for politics). Dermot duly apologised. Then called him a Roscommon knacker. I don’t think it made a difference. He went down the Fr Ted road.
I'm an American who just recently discovered FATHER TED. It's a damn shame Dermot Morgan isn't alive making anyone laugh anymore. Truly a gem. RIP.
Fantastic! R.I.P. Dermot Morgan.

20 years dead today. Taken far too soon. His influence still to be found in every facet of Irish society
