HaleysTusk Did you get to see this gig, Tusk? If this was anything to go by, it must have have been really superb. We know Harry's a great guitarist, but Ponticelli adds an extra dimension.
Trevor Morris Yes, they didn’t have any media there so they gave a couple of us all access passes to help photo/video some of the goings on. There’s another video Ponticelli performed on, he also played on Last Kiss Goodbye with Harry and Haley I’ve already edited. Harry was extremely excited to play with Ponticelli, he talked with us before the show, asked us if we heard their mic check with him, so I edited both performances with him for Harry to see. He sent me a one word reply in his email: “OMG!”
Just posted "Last Kiss Goodbye" from this show. Some context. The reason Harry was so psyched to play w/ Alfonso, Harry told us that Alfonso tutored under Django Reinhart, besides the Beatles, one of Harry's very greatest Idols as a guitarist.
++W Hendriks This is the second best version I've ever heard. This would have to give way to Ella Fitzgerald's version with just Joe Pass accompanying her on guitar.
@@nassau1605 We canna argue about these singers as we both think they are both great. Ella, although she hasna what is nowadays called a Blues voice, has all the Blues in her phrasing with slides and slurs and other embellishments, including that swing. I love Haley. Her voice is different, unique in fact, and she at times does things I'm sure Ella couldna do. She controls huge variations in the tone of her voice in a way that I've never heard anyone else do, including Ella. I don't think there is anyone out there today to match Haley, but I don't think anyone ever has matched Ella, not even Haley, love her though I do. Even being regarded as next to Ella is praise indeed. That being said, ultimately there's a large element in common in our tastes. Haley's version is super. and Ponticelli plays some superb guitar, very "Gypsy" style and Bluesy at times. I love it, but I'll still go back to Ella with Joe Pass. It must be difficult for young singers today when there's Ella who took possession of so many of these fabulous songs from the Great America Songbook. I don't think of Ella as a Blues singer as such, but phrasing is completely Blues laden. JL wasna there, but Haley is very close. i await you, or someone else telling me what tripe I'm talking!
Cry me a river Haley and i will drown in your love sweetheart . Lovely song darling just right for you Darling.....wow i need your love Haley so much... love Frank 💋💋💋💋💋💋💔💔
Actually, in the early days, Haley's playlist was fairly limited to two albums and Jazz/rock covers, "Cry me a River" was often on the playlist. This performance, performed on this date 6 years ago, was special in that Alfonso Ponticelli is one of Harry's guitar heroes. He plays what's called a 'gypsy' style and I think was a protégé of Django Reinhardt, one of both Haley and Harry's greatest Idols. P.A.V.E. is a non profit, so they recruited many of us Haliens to do their publicity, video, photos, interviews etc, so we got to go in the venue early and see the mic check. After the mic check, we spoke w/ Harry and he asked "Did you see us rehearse w/ Alfonso?" He then explained how excited he was that Alfonso would join them and he's going to get to play with him. Check out how much Alfonso's guitar enhances their performance of Haley's original, "Last Kiss Goodbye" performed at the same show: ua-cam.com/video/zda-puTx3U0/v-deo.html
@@HaleysTusk thanks for the great details! I was discussing this with my mom b/c she last saw a Django Reinhardt tribute band play the Dakota in Minneapolis - and she wondered about any connection to Haley Reinhart! I didn't even know about the spelling difference in last name. hahaha.
Haley and Midnight at the Patio Theatre in support of P.A.V.E. Playlist:

Is she a jazz singer or a rock singer? She does both with commendable ease.

Ella Fitzgerald`s version is perfect but I prefeer a more bluesy version with a bit of gypsy influence

Wow - Haley doesn't sing this much?
