  • Manuel II Palaiologos proved to be one of the finest emperors of the last dynasty of the Eastern Roman Empire, whose herculian efforts saw the continuation of Byzantium into the fifteenth century. It was his reign that saw Byzantium saw its last few successes before the Ottomans became insurmountable even with the combined might of Catholic Europe.
    Predecessor: John V Palaiologos
    Successor: John VIII Palaiologos

    The last centuries of the empire are sad tales. Just blows me away how such a powerhouse, in every aspect could crumble away. I guess a house divided is a house that'll fall. Very interesting video BTW.

      2 Black deaths( first one killed 2/3 of the population of the empire destroying the hopes of restoring roman empire to its former glory for good) 1000 years of war( peace treaties meant nothing back in the days) including civil wars its a miracle they survived for so long.

    It's pretty funny that the Palaiologos Dynasty arguably had 5 good dynastic emperors (Michael VIII, Andronikos III, Manuel II, John VIII, Constantine XI). Even the Macedonian Dynasty had to supplement this by including non-family related emperors.

    I think the algorithm is blessing you, for the coverage of the holy city, as well as for your in-depth information about the Byzantines. Keep doing what you do, maybe try covering some of the more "glorious" moments of the Byzantine and maybe with better editing (a style similar to e.g. HistoryMarche or K&G[?]). Regardless of editing, I will keep on binge-watching every single video, I just started so it might take a while :P

      @mabeSc Рік тому

      @@EasternRomanHistory Am indeed enjoying the binge watch! :)
      Your editing has definitely improved a lot and the videos as a whole! But, in the end, it is the information in such videos that is the most important - imperative to get right and you are getting it right. Am aware of many periods of Byzantine (I hate using this term but I guess it does work to indicate the period of Roman History after the Western Roman empire fell) history but I do enjoy watching your videos as you both add on top of my pre-existing knowledge and for periods of which there is a "hole" sort to say, in my knowledge.
      Moreover, a video is much more friendly than hundred of pages of some book - also I might be the only one but sometimes reading some chapters of said books feels "lonely", as in I feel I'm the first to read about some period in a long while (if it makes any sense)...
      Still, I wish you the best and hope that the algorithm keeps blessing you with more views until UA-cam can be a viable source of income for you! And, who knows, you might find an editor, too! :)
      Do not take my words about editing too seriously though, the videos, as they are now, are very much pleasant to watch (as your view-count on some videos confirms)!
