Can we pause to appreciate the detail in painting models that are 1:72 scale every one individual painted. Well done that man
Imagine if Kevin was into model trains.
"I've made a model" definitely Kevs catchphrase :D Somebody said before he should do a t-shirt or mug with it on, be a genuine money maker if he wanted to
I suggested the shirt a week or so ago, don't know if I was the first. But buy one I would. I also build 1/72 but aircraft, his skills are exceptional.
One of my direct Ancestors Piers Leigh was in Henry’s Army and died later after Agincourt
I was just about to comment on how marvelous Kevin's models are. I am blown away at not only the colors, but how the figures are positioned: bowmen about to launch their arrows, figures in the act of running with arms raised while hoisting their swords. These models recreating battles or camps along with Kevin's commentary really make his videos come alive and are much more apt to hold my attention than a documentary using paintings or crude illustrations from the time with a droning voice. 👏
How is it possible that you, and perhaps a small team of yours are capable of producing better historical documentaries than whatever the flip the TV history channels are producing nowadays. I would even say that your models along with your captivating commentary help me visualise the history better than many historical docuseries with enermous funding and alot of actors. Cheers and best of luck to you from Czech Republic.
Wow, that’s very kind of you and yes when I think of the budgets some big production companies have it blows my mind. My team is just my lovely wife and me, and I think keeping it simple is sometimes the best way. We appreciate you watching 👍
@@thehistorysquad Come on chaps, three cheers for Julie!!! Hip, hip..........
Dave.
@@davesheppard8797Hurray
@@davesheppard8797the cringe is real although I agree with the sentiment
I hate it when Kevin says "That's a story for another time" I don't want the stories to end :(
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I know just what you mean. Maybe we should kidnap him and get him to tell us it all in one brilliant week of History.........I mean we would feed him and everything and he could bring Julie!! 😂😂😂
Dave.
Be patient . Rome wasn't built in a day and neither are this man's models .
@@kaboom4679 OK Kaboom.....we'll wait!! 🤔🤔😂😂
Models always contribute well, to understanding. "The shellfish gave them a run for their money." Clever turn of phrase. I am late watching. While watching, I am in my stateroom, on the ship, shining my shoes for tomorrow, a fine combination. Thanks, Bro.!
Haha, nice! Cheers Brother 👍🏻
I know it's rv cleaning day, when I get a notice that the History Squad has uploaded a new video.
I've come to view this as a tradition that I have no intentions of ending, any time soon.
Thank you, Hicks and Crew.
Cheers 👍
I love these models and how they show what they scene looked like. I can't imagine what the actual event was like to participate in. The sight, sounds, and even the smells of the lines and camps. Marching on a castle must've been one hell of a sight. Even the logistics had to have had a lot of thought put into it. History is so amazing.
Mr. Hicks should sell these giant dioramas to museums! They are amazing work!
I absolutely love the way you present history. It is fascinating and very enjoyable. You would make a great teacher. I always loved history in school, but you make it fun.
Thank you very much!
We hear a lot about Agincourt, but little about the rest of the campaign. Thank you for filling in this detail, I did not realize the importance of the time it took to capture Harfleur.
Juliet Barker has done a book "Agincourt", The king, The Campaign, The Battle. Which is written in great detail from the planning stage to the Battle. I personally found far too much detail in the run up to the Battle but very little on the Battle of Agincourt itself, which was what I was really looking forward to. Kevin's short and concise episode gave us everything we needed to know without bogging us down with unnecessary facts.
Dave.
After Agincourt most "Historical" youtubers stop their 100 years war series. Hope he will continue to the end we want to know ALL of it.
Turns out for most anglo-saxon youtubers, the hundred years war is limited to Poitiers, Crécy ans Azincourt
@TheSergentChaotix That's because after that we started getting our arses kicked!! 😂😂. Miss of Arc put quite a spanner in the works!!
Dave.
@gentChaotix This and If you take the battle list from Wiki there were plenty of wins for the French in between those English victories. Let alone how the war ended. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hundred_Years%27_War_battles. And never mention the English Allies(other French) poking the French in the back.
Fantastic video! Onwards to Agincourt!! King Henry V was an incredible leader of men.
Kevin has replied to so many comments. What a gent.
True.Many do not. I mean,nice to see our 2 bob's worth.
So well described Kevin. Schools really should be rolling this out in history lessons as you bring events to life. 🙏
Kevin is a hell of a story teller
Superb video Kevin. Superb model-making too. I pride myself on my model-making but I bow to your superior skills.
Wow, thanks
These medieval battles are the best!
Going into battle with the runs must have been something else
Dysentery was also horrible during the American Civil War. General Robert E Lee commanded the Confederates at Gettysburg while suffering from dysentery.
@rebelchaplain1 I will always remember his famous valley campaign. A masterpiece in using defeat by detail to smash the pieces of a numerically superior army by always choosing when and where both of you always fight. Move swiftly, engage the enemy where he is weak, and if you cannot win then you must divide his forces.
@@justinfrazier9555 Are you referring to Stonewall Jackson’s 1862 Valley Campaign?
Well, In Kev's own words...."It's like diorreah, but it's thicker and quicker and you can't stop it". I heard that a lot of men who managed to fight with Dysentery at Agincourt just undid the flaps on the backs of their leggings/ medieval trousers and just let it happen!! Must have been pretty awful!! 🤢🤢🤢.
Dave.
Always a good day when i see a video from history squad. And its Friday and im almost off work. Weekends off to a good start.
Enjoy!
I think that is just awesome the way the king challenged the prince to personal combat. The days of having strong brave leaders are long gone. That diorama was great. It must’ve taken a lot of time to make.
It did, but it’s already been broken down to prepare for Agincourt 😉
Yippee another good day when Kevin uploads ❤
Your newest history lesson was a great way to start my morning. Very informative as usual, my knowledge of medieval English history keeps increasing. Thanks Kevin, cheers from Texas.
Cheers Dave, always appreciated 👍
The amount of work you put into these videos is always astounding not to mention I can't imagine how long it takes to create a model. The models are some of my favorite parts of your videos, you really are an artist!
Thank you very much!
Hi Kevin,
The castle model is fantastic and those micro-shots from behind the model-soldiers are amazing. Such an excellent job!
Thanks 👍
Kevin allways has the coolest models.
Finally got home to watch Kev!! Fantastic models and really well told. You packed in so much and kept it really interesting. Some books/accounts bombard you with names of so many people that it is difficult to follow the train of the story. No deviation here and all the names we needed. The French did really well to hold out for so long which sort of put a spanner in Henry's works. The whole campaign was so huge that Henry probably thought he had to press on to make all the enormous preparations worth while! Obviously we know he got away with it in the end but it took a heavy toll!! Can't wait for the next part!! But simply a superb episode Kev!! Top notch!!
Dave.
Great, glad you enjoyed it Dave - If Henry had gone home early, he also would have had to face his creditors, which wouldn't have gone well.
@thehistorysquad Yes, cos he got heavily into dept to finance the campaign didn't he? All turned out right in the end though eh!! Unless you were French of course!! 😂😂
Dave.
My mount & blade knowledge coming in clutch
Another historical gem thanks for the great commentary, models and also the little jokes you sneak in under the radar Kev!
😂
Can't wait to watch this when I get home!! Busy in work at the Mo!!
Dave.
Kevin is doing the Lord's work.... what a guy.... he is just wow. 😊
😜
Love the constant focus on logistics, such an overlooked detail in military history which of course focus on the battles and strategies. But without proper logistics, the best strategies cannot be played out.
Kevin, Hi from the US. Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. History has always fascinated me, but you make it that much more interesting. Thank you!
Awesome, thank you!
Well done Kevin, another brilliant video. Love the diorama too! 👍
amazing set up. thankyou for another interesting history leesson.
thanks Kevin, your videos are always astonishing!
Ken Theriot's song Agincourt comes to mind. :) Will watch this video, and take a re-listen to that song as well! Thank you Kevin!
So, video watched! Great as always!
So interesting to learn all the nuances of these battles. From what I gather the 100 years war was also like a world War for the time, involving the UK France Spain Italy.
Kevin's models are fantastic.
Lovely model of Harfleur. Great to see you have been and carried out a survey in preparation for building this model. Great stuff.
Would be awesome to see some content on battles during the crusades! The siege of Acre namely would be an interesting one.
It's refreshing to see a historian use models instead of the CGI crap most others use.
Thanks
This guy is fantastic!
This is such a great series, I’m thoroughly enjoying it! Thank Kev 👍🏼
Glad to hear it! 👍
I’ve just finished watching this series in one assault Kevin and I’ve got to say that you are a master historian and a great narrator. Your descriptions are second to none! Thanks I’ve learned a lot.🏴🇬🇧
Much appreciated. I’m sick with a cold at the moment but the next instalment will be out next week 👍
@@thehistorysquad Get well soon my friend. I’m going through all your work and it’s brilliant plus there’s a lot of it too!🏴🇬🇧
Never eat shellfish in months without an R.....Great Vlog as usual Kevin.
Amazing Kev . Another brilliant video. Thanks for all the work that you put in to the videos, you have a real gift for story telling too.
Much appreciated
these videos are so great and this campaign is so fascinating
I was in Honfleur in 2015 near Harfleur. I ate some splendid chips from a food truck.Bought a souvenir.🇨🇦
Fantastic work! We need a show on the making of this show please.
"For never two such kingdoms did without much fall of blood, whose guiltless drops are everyone a woe, and a sore complaint 'gainst him whose wrongs give edge unto the swords which make such waste in brief mortality"
Thank you, Kevin! Your models are amazing, as well as your clothing!
Your stories and models are just truly captivating. Thank you for what you do.
Cheers Michael, always appreciated.
Kevin, thank you so much for doing these; I love watching your videos. Don't ever forget: YOU ARE AMAZING.
Wow, thank you!
Mr hicks thank you agian for the history lesson good sir.
I honestly appreciate you making these models. It cheers me up
These tales of history are really interesting ! Thank you so much for making the effort to create them. Really brings the subjects to life
Our pleasure!
I read about this in one of Bernard Cornwalls books.
Grüße aus Deutschland, danke für diese tollen und vor allem spannenden Geschichten, selten hat mir Geschichte so Spaß gemacht.
Danke
Wow Kevin ... this Siege of Harfleur is a pivotal event in the 100 Years War as it is the background of the Battle of Agincourt and you described every detail! love all your Battle description videos more than anything! waiting for more!
Just one more fact : The French garrison rejected Henry's terms to surrender twice and Henry was about to storm the city knowing that French reinforcements could arrive any day; that sparked fear among French population at Harfleur and they offered to surrender remembering the carnage at Caen in 1346
Another great video. It's amazing how quickly and impressively these fantastic dioramas are assembled for these videos.
Thank you so much for this! I've been researching this siege for a project and was hungry for a good visual representation of it - those models are spectacular.
It's kind of easy to forget about the catapults at play here - they tend to get overshadowed by Henry's cannon collection...
Kevin, always love your videos. My partner is a teacher in Primary School, and she recognised your voice. She realised that she uses your videos from 60 Second History for her class in school to teach them about historical events 🙂
Wow, that’s cool, thanks 👍
Beautiful artwork and history Kevin, goes well with dinner, thank you!
Thanks Kev, another great one!
Hello Kevin brilliant as ever. Love to you and your family 🌹🌹🌹
Mr. Hicks sorry for just now commenting, I haven't been well. Your models for this video were amazing, your attention to detail is impeccable! I never realized that Henry 5th had wanted Normandy, and I learned something new. I can't wait to tell my brother! Thanks for the shout out sir, as always, looking forward to your next video. Take care!
Hope you’re feeling better now, we’ve both had colds and have struggled to get back to a filming schedule, but William Marshall will be coming up next 👍
@@thehistorysquad I'm looking forward to it, praying you and Julie feel better soon!
*For Saint Crispin and John Cornewaille!*
The 🇫🇷 attacks down in the Welsh miners’ tunnels are the most terrifying part of the battle. Battling in suffocating heat and dark and often being buried alive.
I love your videos, and I have gotten my husband hooked as well--lol! Your information on English history has totally increased my knowledge, to allow me to figure out about our American history--very interesting! 😊 I really liked your model of the battle, and so appreciate your other videos with visuals to make history come alive! Well done!!!!!!
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching 👍🏻
Cracking upload as per 👌🏻
Very informative thanks for the content.
I love everything about this!
Excellent video!
Kevin you make history exciting and enthralling. The time and research you must put into these videos is very valuable and appreciated, thankyou.
This and the battles that followed are coincident with the time of St Joan of Arc, 1412 to 1431. I can highly recommend the 1999 movie, "The Messenger; The Story of Joan of Arc" starring Mila Jovovitch
Yes, thank you. I have a model of her standing by 👍🏻
Always good stuff.
Thank you for your efforts.
Thank you so much putting this together. You're a excellent teacher.
You're very welcome!
Amazing video and model. I had no idea there were firearms of any kind during this campaign. Those early bombard style cannons must have been state-of-the-art. Having built and collected firearms myself, I can tell you that I don’t know that I’d have the courage to stand by and help man on of those. Those look as if they could be properly dangerous to the operators. Great models! I build 1:35 WW2 models and the work put into these sets are incredible. It really helps people like myself visualize the weaponry and composition. I’d love to see more models. I feel I have a decent understanding of early medieval gear (1066 era) but I really have a hard time distinguishing between 1200’s, 1300’s and 1400’s. That’s what models really do a good job of and it would be great to see your collection grow for demonstrations.
Superb telling as always!
Man the detail on your videos is amazing just the boundless Feast of information
I appreciate that!
Thanks!
Another great video Mr Hicks ! Thank You.
Love everything about your channel Sir.
I always learn so much from each video!
Very informative as always, and great job on the display.

Great video, Kevin, and lovely models.

😂
Finally! Been needing my fix of big Kev today. Sure i will love the vid as always.
Yay, thank you!
You are so talented! Love the history and your models!
It just says so much about the importance of planning and logistical side of being an offensive army, so many fell to sickness.
Also those engineers really had their work cut out for them, what a ruckus.
Thanks Kevin this was awesome ❤
Glad you enjoyed it. 👍🏻
Wonderful as always Kevin! Thank you!
My pleasure!
Very informational and fun, as always!
Thanks again!
Another bloody great one, Kev!
