    How to lubricate and service the sunroof panoramic style for the Mercedes-Benz W212 E-Class sedan and wagon 2010 - 2016. The procedure is almost same for all W212 models.
    Always check with a Mercedes Dealer for proper parts and repair methods.
    This is step by step DIY style. Hope you enjoy this video as much as I did to create it for you!

    Yeah, no. :) Lol A smidge incomplete.(like all the sr lube videos I've seen) Where applicable is the key word there. The rails and all yes but you missed an important area. I found on my W211 panoramic sunroof the binding was happening not in the rails, but mostly where the brackets blade slides between the back roof and the rear glass panel. The dried out white looking area between your hand and the lubes in the first part of your video. Unfortunately no videos I've seen caught this as an applicable area to clean and lube. So I improvised. I sprayed these rear slots heavily with synthetic silicone to just beyond where the sunroof metal support stops when the sr is fully open and ran a cloth along it using a plastic body pry tool. Dirty silicone lube came out. Will keep searching for how mercedes cleans and lubes this area. But for now at least, my sunroof finally stopped creaking and groaning and sounding like it was gonna tear itself up when moving. Fyi, the slits want to hold onto anything pressed into the slot, so don't use q-tips or the like.(no I didn't, but thought about it) Another tip for those with uneven front solar panels, on mine, I found the high side was missing a small square bushing that's attaches to the underside of the sliding part of the sunroof. When fully closed, the bushing would press the solar panels bracket down that extra 1/4 inch if it were there. If someone knows where I could find one without buying a whole assembly, I would appreciate a heads up. Meanwhile Ima try a couple layers of thick 3M specialty tape. I don't use the sr very often so it should last a while.

      I have the rest of the story now. I apologize partly on the where applicable comment. You were correct in that you can add lube for the rear rail at the spot you indicated. For me and my older car I had to include an undocumented location to resolve my cars issue. My car is older and some of the fuzz is gone which leaves a not so slippery rubber and grime surface. I was able to pry off the molding closest to the sunroof without damaging it(W212 only has the one). There are videos. But after doing so, I found the rail to be in very decent shape. I would say it's not really needed if you're oiling the rear rail. I found there was white grease pre-existing in my rear rail along w the oil. I do recommend cleaning up the rear rail rubber slit and applying some sort of lubricant on older models when standard maint isn't doing the trick. Thanks for the video Mike, it got me rolling. ;)

    I hope people who watch this understand that you're supposed to thoroughly clean all involved surfaces as (not so) common sense would suggest. Also, the guide rails themselves are supposed to be lubricated.

      I've owned this car since 30K miles to 300K. The guide rails are lubed in the sunroof but not the panoramic roofs per MB.

      Also I hope people also understand you can use any silicone and not the special stuff from the deep caves of Stuttgart after completing all of the missions in the brother's Grimm dark forrest.

    So drip the lube where? In the crack or on the metal thing? Because you dripped it both places haphazardly..

    • @mikeicee
      @mikeicee  2 роки тому +3

      It goes in the rail, on top of the metal is a miss because I'm dripping while looking at iPhone screen... its much harder.

    Can I just use a multi-purpose grease for automobile? It smell bad but I'll handle with it.

      No bro! Watch my video on BMW sunroof grease, it is wayyy cheaper than MB grease. But don't use stinky grease it will repeal the girls into dryness.

  • @forzaworld

    The fluid should not be applied according to MB Service, it's only for convertibles. Simply using a small amount of MB grease is all that you need to do. Agree with others that cleaning should be done first along with not adding too much

      lol its straight from the MB system, my friend works at the dealer. Some older MB like the W140 just use grease.

    You can use any silicone or lithium grease do this.. You don’t need super special Mercedes dealership grease to do it unless you’re a tool who really believes that shit.. it’s a sunroof.. It uses the same parts as any other sunroof out there. Honda, chevy, mercedes, bmw, ferrari….it’s a sunroof!!

    • @ambientsounds1416

      No, because GLK uses materials from a different planet and as such this silicone grease will not be suitable for a GLK models.
