“I wanted an Atlantic”, he would fume, “and that f*** son of a b**** sent me that!!” That part is a gem, especially when Tug adds in censor sounds 😂
I want to read what he said TvT
Non Railway Series Fans: eh it’s just some dumb kids stories who cares.
ACTUAL Fans: 8:01.
*"If you ever listen to the sounds of the railway at night, you will hear a thundering whistle, strong wheels pounding the rails, and the happy chortle of a once broken soul reborn. This is the sound of The Flying Kipper. It's engine.... proud, noble, enterprising. Thy name is Henry!."*
Beautiful. Just...beautiful. 👏👏
I read this in Alec Baldwin's narrator voice
I read this in the legend Michael Angelis's voice. Henry is just so realistically well-written.
Is that a reference to something?
Why did I read this in a George Carlin voice?
Edit: even though I don't think the thy name is Henry line would've fit with GC tho. I'd also tack in how sometimes when Henry is ill or broken, James would pull The Kipper
“I’m a steam engine that loves nature! Now, just let me go and call an owl stupid.” - Henry
Why do I see that. 😂
😂😂😂 I kinda like that Henry is a jerk sometimes.
Henry (voiced by alec baldwin): "Stupid bird!"
Henry is a reminder that no matter what struggles life throws at you or what disabilities you have, you can accomplish anything! That's why he's my favorite character.
And that, no doubt, is the most realest self-determinating thing to live by, big time 💯💯💯💯
Henry was literally the mvp engine of my childhood. Nothing else comes close.
He's my favorite too. I got sick a few months back for the first time in 13 years and when I was recovering, Herny's Special Coal, The Flying Kipper, and Whistles and Sneezes became 3 episodes I watched almost once a day. I truly think Henry helped me get better.
... and it not using it as an excuse for acting like an jerk
For me Henry (model series) is sort of a phrase "No matter how hard your life could be; you'll come back stronger and better." He's a fighter, being a flawed design yet still push through hardship until given an opportunity to be rebuilt and made a come back like a boss.
P.S. I also kinda like his theme too, UpsideNow's orchestra arrangement really made it so epic.
I really hope upsidenow orchestrates more seasons imagine how amazing his Scottish twins, escape, and skarloey railway covers would be
Both the golden era models and RWS. HiT made him too feeble and incapable, both physically and emotionally, and CGI expanded on that and made his character much worse from there.
@@LazyOldFusspot_3428 Til Season 20 fixed it.
Henry really is the Island of Sodor's ultimate chad. After Gordon, he has probably the greatest character arc in both _The Railway Series_ and the model series. An arc that really makes you feel and root for the guy. Too bad with the exception of a few episodes, they totally butchered him in cgi.
Season 20 fixed his character up in the end though.
*Gordon
Best Railway series arcs were by far Gordon, Henry, Skarloey, Peter Sam and Douglas
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Yeah, but by that point, he didn't really have a chance to shine again.
@@DanGamingFan2846 True but let's be thankful his character is fixed in the end.
Henry’s Hiro is like the CGI version of Super Rescue.
Just imagine gordon pulls up behind henry and breaks down pulling 10 coaches full of passengers and henry helps both hiro and gordon while taking on bad coal that would be so cool
Here’s my head canon for how the rebuild could conceivably work. Henry’s cab, firebox, and boiler were severely damaged in the crash, but his frame, wheels, and smoke box managed to survive. I’m thinking a something on the side of the tracks put a large dent in the firebox, which is so small the damage reached the boiler and cab. So at Crewe, they cut out his damaged section and replaced them with an unfinished Black 5 they were building at the time.
Watching anything post-season 21 is really difficult for me because Henry isn't there. As a newer fan, I connected with Henry instantly because of his personality and love for nature, as well as his inspiring comeback story. I knew only after a few episodes that he would be my favorite.
Anytime I watch Gordon have a moment or a good episode after Series 21, I wonder how it would've been if Henry was there. It's hardly even the same show with your fav character missing.
And what sucks the most was how when they FINALLY found the perfect sweetspot between moody, but kind Model Henry and sensitive, meek CGI Henry... they kicked him off the show.
I miss you Henry. We all do.
"We need you back here, Henry. Now more than ever..."
If you ask me, the CGI series, especially the Brenner era should have Henry's character being a combination of his grumpy trait and his kinder, softer trait in it along with his nature loving side too.
I think another reasoning why they didn't bring back Henry's nature-loving side in the Brenner era was because Andrew Brenner is still not pleased of how he was left uncredited in the S3 adaptation of Henry's Forest, but to be fairly honest, the magazines don't even credit him as writer either (not sure he was aware of it too) and obviously, Awdry never even read the Thomas Marvel Comics, so imagine if those two ever met and the subject of Henry's Forest is brought up...then they would've hit cards.
If Awdry hated Henry’s Forest, imagine how he would have felt about Season 5.
Perhaps if someone ask him, we'II know for sure. Also, I bet Michael White could have bring back Henry's nature-loving side in the CGI series.
@@joshuaW5621 He'd loathe it
Wait, Marvel Comics did Thomas stuff?
I had never known just how much Awdry hated Henry initially, and that he intended to write him out of the series. You do a great job really going in depth with these videos, they’re very informative and insightful! Awesome!
Wilbert actually hated James of all engines most. There's a reason why his stories about him are so mid compared to the rest.
Henry has some of the best episodes in the entire classic series the flying kipper and Henry’s forest
You know I started getting into Thomas in the early 2010s by then the CGI season were underway and get this I thought the actual Henry was a scaredy cat thanks for showing me the real Henry
I love this character(specifically modeled version), and Henry walled up in the tunnel is always one of the first images I see when I think of the show
Out of the original seven engines from Season 1, Henry has always been my favorite. Whether it be his inspiring and feel-good character journey, or the many fantastic stories he led in both the RWS and model series, something about Sodor's big green tender engine has always hit different. Henry is one of the all-time greats of the franchise, and a key character in it.
And then CGI Henry happened
@@Dr.Disney With Season 20 making him all time great again in the end.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967Yes but after that point he didn't have a chance to shine again sadly 😔
@@fanofeverything30465 At least he's fixed in the end.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 And was still in character the few times he was used after that
it's a shame about the CGI flanderization because i really do love Henry's facial design/animation and voice (UK and US) in the CGI series. maaaybe the worrier personality could've been kept but not to such an extreme (obviously) and have it stem from his self-image/self-consciousness and not, like, snowmen?? and RAIN?!?!
Thank you for re-uploading this!
I think Henry's story is very inspiring and interesting.
The journeys of "The Three Railway Engines" - aka Henry, Gordon and Edward - were more complex in themes than they let on, especially when most fans may be more familiar with the spotlighted Thomas, Percy and James as characters. Edward's themes encompass the ability to adapt to a new situation to stay strong, and the message you don't need in necessity to be in the spotlight so much to be effective. Gordon's full arc symbolises the theme of transcending from being a self-prioritising character to a reputable and appreciative worker. Henry's arc can be compared to Prince Adam/Beast from "Beauty and the Beast"; a character with themes of having to transcend his bothersome circumstances to getting a grip with his benefits when respected. Regards, Samuel Farris.
I honestly find CGI Henry funny at times. The leaves on his eyes gets me everytime XD
"From super-chad to scared virgin," Nic, 2021. Best quote of that year.
One thing I like about CGI Henry is the model itself. Nitrogen did an excellent job at recreating the original prop
Except the face
If Henry was drawn as an Atlantic as Awdry had wanted things would have been much different I think.
We would have been poorer for it.
Ahhhh yes, Big Green! Not Piccolo, but Henry, the No.3 engine!
i love how in season five in one episode henry just roasted thomas
That's the Henry we should've seen more often in the CGI series instead of the total coward he was dumbed down to.
The new format for Sodor’s finest is awesome and I love it a lot, makes it so much more entertaining, in depth and fun. Love Henry and this video made me appreciate him all the more when I first watched him and it still does now, he was done so dirty in CGI, wish he wasn’t. He deserved better, he’s one of the best
At least Season 20 sorted Henry out in the end
people love Henry in Super Rescue or just Super Rescue in general, but it's the journey that Henry took from being built from stolen plans, steaming issues and his rebuild after the kipper crash it's what makes Henry a fav character of mine.
30:34 Honestly, he would be spinning in his grave if he saw 26:55 and 30:38.
Lord have mercy for his wrath would destroy us all!.
He would storm into Mattel and commit mass murder if he saw Henry in CGI. And that’s not including Magic Railroad, the HIT Seasons, BWBA, and the hundreds of other things that they f**ked up.
I love Henry his story is awesome but you can’t deny the fact that he was an idiot for thinking that the rain would “spoil his lovely green paint with red stripes” it’s water and can be easily dried up.
@Dinobo The paint might not have been waterproof.
You know who else are idiots who claim Henry as "purely innocent"? Clickbait article writers.
Henry deserves more respect both in CGI and the Classic Seasons. He is probably my second favorite. First one being Thomas ofc. Anyways cool video! So happy you're channel didn't get copyrighted so many times then one. And so happy some of you're videos got back! Especially the video of you ranking Thomas movies! Which I loved every second of listening!
Keep up the great work! Hopefully you're channel does not get copyrighted again!
I am so glad you reposted this one as when explaining Henry to people I refer them to this video as it's the best indepth explanation of his history ever. My dad used to tell me Henry's story but he was getting some of the details wrong and never enough of them. This video tells all and I love that about it.
Amazing video that I'm glad is back on the internet for all to see.
grumpy, loves to be alone, screams a lot?
he just like me fr
I wish Henry got more episodes where he takes more heroic roles in helping other engines and stopping villains. If that were to happen if TATMR performed modestly with critics and at the box office, it would have made him Near Pure Good as he subverted most of his corrupting factors, while still keeping his arrogant trait. He shows no matter what struggles can happen, you can strive to accomplish anything. That’s why he’s a character I can relate since he’s my number one favorite character of the franchise.
My favorite Henry is both the RWS Henry & the Model Series Henry (Seasons 1-7). Henry's story has always been the most inspiring I ever heard, and his arc from sad beginnings to a glorious ending is my favorite of the Railway Series.
I found it interesting that Henry's personality in each timeline is described by how he acts and the reason he stayed in his tunnel. Like the model series, where he doesn't want his paint to be ruined
Henry is one of the best engines of the steam team, I prefer the model series too. The books are good too, but the cgi Henry is a scaredy cat 🙀. They could not remember Henry doesn’t need special coal throughout the series, but his love for nature. And why would they make him so frightened about everything? Doesn’t the writers pay attention to the character throughout the series? Good review and glad you upload it.
I love this new format and i'll like to see Edward and Gordon again but with this format
I feel like I appreciate Henry a wee bit more now! I always saw him as a second to Gordon, a similar build or engine, I didn't realise that was him who was poorly and didn't even know about Awdry's plans to write him out! It's certainly funny now, knowing his backstory!
As far as the CGI series is concerned with Henry's shape, I do think he was in his old shape at one point, but his flying kipper accident could have been retconned to have happened before Thomas came to the island, so he would have technically always been in this new shape. And when Thomas found out about the accident, whoever told him might have sugar-coated the fact that it was a lot more of a serious accident than initially thought.
If only the CGI series made Henry's Old Shape for The Adventure Begins.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 yeah if that was the case then I wouldn't have come up with that theory
That would be my thought.
@@olivermensinger6022 yeah true
Do you know what I find funny? The Middleton drawings of Henry resemble the North Eastern Railway's S, S1 and S2 (LNER B13, B14, B15) 4-6-0s, by dropping the trailing axle you could easily have made Henry one of those and avoided the whole sickness, crash, reconstruction plot. Bonus points if the original S class was picked because they had shallow fireboxes that made them less efficient steamers and saw Worsdell immediately build a class of Atlantics for the top express services with the S's being relegated to less strenuous work.
I'm not gonna lie, I love Henry in a couple of CGI series episodes and especially in the CGI special Hero of The Rails. One CGI episode, for example, is Henry's Good Deeds because that's where Henry continues acting like Edward. Because of the wanting to assist. I actually love that.
I've always been a fan of Henry, but now hearing the full backstory of how he came to be, I think he's earned the right to be a pompous jerk 😂
The last time I watched this, Henry was already among my favorite characters. But not my top three was probably 4th in my list. However overtime I've come to like Henry as character even was considering making him my favorite, which I couldn't have imagined he is currently my 2nd favorite character (Edward being my absolute favourite!), who also was first to introduce me Thomas thanks to the episode 'The Flying Kipper' which immediately hook me to the series and years later would reignite my intrested with Thomas again probably should get a Bachamnn Henry for my Birthday if he is available at a resonable price!
"Tonight, on EyeWitness News: Reverend Wilbert Awdry, creator of the much loved children's character Thomas the Tank Engine, is successfully resurrected over 25 years since his death."
Awdry: "Does the TV series still make Henry a silly nature lover?"
Reporter: "No, actually, he's now a hypochondriac. There's an episode where he's scared of a snowman."
Awdry: "Good night!" (flatlines)
I feel like the writers of the CGI series adaptation hated Henry and purposefully wrote him as a sad pathetic loser, and loved making him suffer like the sadists they are.
WOW TVS Henry is the Lead.
Henry is definitely my favorite, thank you for explaining why. I’m glad you’re back!
Dang, so Henry is a universe changing character. If his events were different, it would have affected thomas in ways we can only imagine
Every time I see one of your videos that have CGI Henry, I get to notice more and more how much of a disaster he is compared to the Model and Railway series.
Out of all the engines featured in Thomas and Friends, Henry was the engine I related to the most. Growing up as a kid, I guess you could say that I was the odd one out. Had a great understanding with my family, even if they did get frustrated with me (Much like Henry's relation to the fat controller) but at school I was always seen as the socially awkward one. Again, much like how all the other engines saw Henry. However, much like the number 3 engine on Sodor, I was able to eventually rise above and push through.
This is my favorite episode of sodors finest
Henry is one of my three top favorite characters in Thomas and Friends along with Edward and Toby and Henry was the first engine I was introduced to in his episode the Sad Story of Henry in season one when I was three years old and it was my great grandmother’s 100th birthday and he has had a special place in my heart ❤️ ever since thanks for sharing this great video highlighting my childhood favorite engine 👍💚🚂
Henry is a wonderful character to relate to. No matter what disabilities or prolonged illnesses he suffers from, he always wants to keep going and work hard. In the beginning, the other engines don’t take his illnesses into consideration and claim that he is lazy and overweight. But we finally get a couple of episodes which give us a deeper look into Henry’s struggles.
Henry is also a complex character because he can be just as arrogant as Gordon and James. However, he is probably the nicest towards the littler engines and the most sensitive out of the tender engines, second to Edward.
Henry really is just a tragic figure ain’t he? Poor guy never catches a break
Henry Is My favorite character in the show and always has sense I first saw him. T.V series Henry reminds me a lot of myself. My love for nature, me and him having a history with being sick. He even has my favorite color, number and has the first letter of my name. Me a d Henry are nearly Identical. And I always relate to his . model series character.
17:07 god Henry was a badass
At least The Flying Kipper is the only thing that sticks with Henry from the model series to CGI.
In my AU Henry "Was" an Altlantic but had a Small Firebox at First, Sir Topham Hatt was Happy that he got an Atlantic but then later got Mad that Henry did Run As Properly as An Atlantic would, He would need special coal throughout most of 1934, and then In Late 1934 when the Flying Kipper Crash took place Henry was sent to Crewe, where he would be turned into an LMS Black 5 (An Accurate One, Not One That Looks Like The TVS Model), To this Day he is The Only Atlantic to Be Converted into a Black 5
We all know henry has issues, but, we all know he has the best theme ever.
Agreed
Ngl, I never liked the CGI Series, but I DID like "Henry's Hero" and "Henry In The Dark" for said reasons. At least we got fans who can take henry and keep him out of the terrors of the CG Series with their own recreations of his best moments. 😁
29:25 You know, if they want to keep both Henry and Nia in the Steam Team, they could just have Nia sleep at the Railway Works nearby so that she can be near the other engines. Simple.
I'm really glad Awdry decided to keep and work with Henry than get rid of him. I love all the characters, but Henry holds a special place as an actual comfort character due to his struggles and being the "problem child" of the family.
When I was young, I used to get sick all the damn time. While I wasn't like my mom who broke both her arms and an ankle during her childhood, I wasn't spared when it came to getting every cold and flu that came along with being at school. A lot of the days I missed as a young kid were due to me just not kicking these illnesses to the curb as quick as a lot of kids. Hell, even if I'm better now, about every little thing under the sun can set me off into a sneezing fit. Makes me wonder if being as constantly sick as I was as a kid has damaged my sinuses.
If Awdry had his way and got rid of Henry, I don't think I'd ever have a comfort character. I love the other engines to death, but the only one I relate to is Henry. It's a horrible feeling when your health holds you back.
Chris also handled him fairly well. His arc kinda dates back to his first ever debut story in the entirety of the Railway Series, when he complained about his own image.
Henry’s Hidden Secrets
Why the hit era retconned Henry using special coal again:
What if, Henry had gotten used to using special coal, he actually continued using it even after his restoration? This also affected his firebox, hence when Gordon took his special coal, Henry had a bad performance.
Why he keeps screaming in the TV series:
Henry has PTSD. Why? Throughout his life he’s gone through many terrible experiences. So the Flying Kipper and Haunted Henry happened in the CGI series offscreen. This had an impact on him, hence why he was scared of Charlie, disguised as a Snowman and the Flatbeds of Fear. This continued into season 19 as he started screaming because of Chicken Pox.
Henry’s Love of Nature:
When Henry was sent to crewe to be repaired, he didn’t see any trees or flowers anywhere. So when he returned Henry felt good about seeing forests.
Why he is literally afraid of rain:
I believe, Henry was afraid of the rain in The Adventure Begins not because it would ruin his paint, he was afraid of the rain because it would affect his steaming problems.
POV the Rev. W. Awdry sees Henry being scared of a snowman: Now What fear does a loco steam engine being scared of a snowman.
He's had the biggest character development out of ALL the trains.
Ma boi went from “i need special coal to do what a 27 year old american can do” to *”I pulled two whole trains and their locomotives at once”*
It was this video that got me hooked on your channel, glad it's back!
Appreciate I'm probably in the minority here, and it's gonna be a while until Tug gets back to where he was before the great mattel-flavoured fuckening, but I'd like to see a Sodor's Finest on Gordon in the same style as the newer ones, since Gordon's episode was moreso an extended episode of MTAKS than a full Sodor's Finest.
I would like to see him remaster his Edward and Gordon Sodor’s Finest eps at some point, but give him time.
@@olivermensinger6022He'll probably do that in celebration of a milestone
My favourite character back with his own Sodor's Finest.
I wish that Henry wasn’t a coward at all in CHI series, or James being cocky, and Gordon being grouchy, and the controller being idiotic
CGI
Well James didn’t get flanderized at least
There is precedent in a pacific being rebuilt onto a ten wheeler, the GWR did just that to the Great Bear. It was an under-performing disappointment, and was rebuilt into a Castle class in 1924.
As a kid, I just saw Henry as the green version of Gordon and now I know why
Having the same name as Henry, it made him my favorite engine (besides Thomas)
IT’S ALL COMING BACK! THANK YOU TUG!
25:53 is a superb dub job. Well done
Obviously I’m happy for the reupload, but thank you Tug for helping me figure out that Henry is my favorite character.
Not CGI Henry, he sucks.
Season 20 fixed him up.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967only to be written out after that. Wilbert and Christopher completed his arc twice. Wilbert's being about overcoming the limitations of your past and Chris' being about overcoming embarrassment.
Henry’s Spots Trouble should’ve instead had been called Edward, Henry and the Spots and be a down to earth slice of life episode where Henry is told that Sir Topham Hatt’s grandkids have chickenpox and it makes Henry feel sad because it reminds him of how he used to get sick a lot. Henry then tells Edward about it and they both decide to cheer up Sir Topham Hatt’s grandkids by surprising them. I really wish this was the case because it would’ve given Henry another good starring episode in the brenner era and would’ve given Edward another starring episode. Edward was unfortunately very underutilized in the brenner era and I hate that.
I am curious why none of the illustrators would draw Henry as a 4-4-2
I was actually looking for this specific video when I learned your previous channel got terminated. Glad it’s back.
In the comments of the "are there two Henrys?" episode of Thomas Debunked, several people theorised that they rebuilt Henry by taking his face off and sticking it on another engine. It made me wonder: if two engines' faces were the same size, could you swap them and get the bodyswap episode nobody asked for?
I’m confused as to why the IoS book says there have been 2 Henry’s since 1922 instead of 1935.
@@joshuaW5621There aren't 2 Henrys. There are only 2 phases of just 1 Henry.
@@LazyOldFusspot_3428 I never believed this theory. But I am confused as to why Awdry wrote 1922 instead of 1935.
If Awdry saw henry srceaming at a snowman he would be like thomas fan with the HIT era
my theory is that Henry still needs special coal, but not that much.
i think that when he was sent to Crewe, they rebuilt him and fixed almost all of his steaming problems, but he’s still ill sometimes like everyone but just needs special coal. one of the few characters that need it. just take this with a grain of salt.
In my headcanon there are 3 separate canons for Henry in each era
I actually love Henry being a jerk, it's very true to him.
Saying that Henry is “just a green Gordon” is like saying that Percy is “just a green Thomas” neither of which are true. I honestly have no idea where that whole idea of “Henry is just a green Gordon came from”
Henry is the definition of a chad!
Probably except in CGI though 🙁
8:00 sir topham hatt said "I wanted an Atlantic" he would be fume, "and that _____, ______, _____ sent me that!"
If you were wondering what the episode that shows the episode at 22:45 is henrys happy coal and idk why its namesd that because he manages badly from the normal coal so now you know
Henry is one of my firm favourites. Always loved his character. Shame on Mattel.
My favorite character, who's in my favorite episode: The Flying Kipper!
I definitely prefer henry's tv series personality (minus being a scaredy cat who still needs the special coal). One thing I like about Henry in the TV series is that his japanese VA from 9 onward is the same person best known for voicing Sonic the Hedgehog since sonic adventure 1
The Brenner era correct the still needs special coal thing.
Audrey really be getting passed about one character when they were messing around with the art style of his characters
26:55 I can't be THE ONLY one thinking that Henry's was hilarious asf
Henry is probably one mighty good engine
Gosh I missed this particular video so bad! Thanks brutha!
I'm glad you could re-upload your new videos. I hope everything solves soon. Good luck!!
And now he’s one of the only stars of the 4th canon of awdry’s work - the HBO Jon Oliver canon
glad i'm not the only Unlucky Tug fan who saw it
Looks like Thomas, Henry, and James were developed on TV
Henry's alteration to a black 5 could be explained as keeping his main frame rails and smoke box while the rest of him (cab outer, rails, boiler and firebox) all replaced for what was available. A black 5, the still requiring special coal thing could also be because a standard black 5 firebox didnt fit his pacific frame correctly
He isn't really a straight up Black 5. Just had some of his old parts salvaged with Stanier features.
Finally this video is back...
Henry always had the short end of the stick yet he kept on moving, what a chad.
