Yes and they did play all those instruments live as well. I saw them during their Moving Pictures Tour and Getty Lee with his bass still strapped on walked over and played keyboards when it came time and then he backed off and jammed on his bass again without missing a beat. I'm a pretty good bass player myself but I think I would be totally out of my league if I were to have a bass off with Geddy Lee. I would run and hide. LOL

Crucially they usedd Tourus pedals that essentially allowed them to play synth with their feet while doing other things.

Geddy Lee was born Gary Lee Weinrib, on July 29, 1953 in Willowdale, outside of Toronto to Morris and Mary Weinrib (née Manya Rubenstein). His parents were holocaust survivors from Poland who had survived the ghetto in their hometown Starachowice, followed by their imprisonments at Auschwitz and later Dachau and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps, during WWII. Alex and Geddy were best friends in Middle and High school. Neil Peart (pronounced "Pier- t") joined the band following the departure of the original drummer John Rutsy

Lifeson plays 12 and 6 string guitar. Taurus pedals (I think).

Peart ...almost the entire percussion section of a musical store.

    My fun Xanadu story.
I'm acquaintances with Geddy's tech and so got into the venue in the afternoon in Vancouver and Las Vegas on the last tour in order to gawk at the gear. I noticed the red doubleneck Rick was in the rotation for both shows :-(
Just before doors in Vegas, I got a text from Skully, "surprise in Xanadu....." I told my friend, also a huge Rush fan and my former boss in his Rush tribute band, and he said "kimonos....?"
Imagine our surprise when Xanadu started and Geddy was playing the black doubleneck.... After the show, Skully texted that "I switched basses in Xanadu because I knew you and *** wanted to see him play the black one." "You can do that?!" "I control everything.....lol"

Rush are hands down the best rock musicians of all time; masters of their craft. FYI all three Rush members are from Ontario, Canada and attended high school together; none are from British Columbia. All three members have been voted several times over the best in the world at their own respective instruments, by prestigious bodies i.e. such as Guitar Player Magazine. I'm Canadian and grew up in the 70's listening to them, and was fortunate enough to attend their concerts; Rush concerts are an experience to say the least. Great video, well done.

Awesome! I was there, Los Angeles Forum, June 11, 1981, floor seats. Seeing these guys perform Xanadu, with the stage lighting effects and back screen, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee both sporting double neck guitars, totally epic. Then, Los Angeles Forum, August 1, 2015, this time with my son, last live performance they'll likely ever do, and they came out with the double necks. Bucket list item complete. Seeing Kel's reaction is heartwarming.

Couple of Rush suggestions: “By-Tor and the Snow Dog” from their live “All The Worlds a Stage Album. Then “Cygnus-X1” from “A Farewell to Kings,” followed up with “Hemispheres.” The Rush mini epics are extraordinary, mood invocation masterpieces. Alternately, “2112” is incredible also. These are best taken in, initially listening, then followed up with listening while reading the lyrics and story notes.

Saw the last tour with my then 14yo son. His second and sadly last Rush show.
My first was 1982 Signals and saw every tour after that.
Really special to share with your kids.
My son loves them and we lost it seeing Jacobs Ladder.

Doug Davidson, that’s awesome. I first saw them in 1980, Permanent Waves tour. Saw them consecutively up to Signals, then joined the Air Force. Saw them with my wife in Pensacola, Power Windows. Finally, for my sons birthday, saw what turned out to be the very last show ever. Had to fly down from Alaska to do it.

I am guessing it must be amazing to be a schooled musician, then hear a RUSH song for the first time and know what is being played. I was just a self taught drummer who didn't have a clue about music theory or any of that, but RUSH, (and Neil specifically), encouraged me to learn how to play. Thanks to them and how their music effected me, I played drums and sang in club bands for over 20 years. Looking back now I miss Neil and I'm sad I will never see RUSH on stage again, but the times I spent on stage performing were the best times of my life. Thanks for this vid, I took me back down the road of some wonderful memories...

ALSO: Kel's reaction when it kicked in was pretty much all our reactions at that moment the first time. lol Too funny - too true.

Back when this came out, I had a 3 piece band, and we played nothing but Rush. None of us could sing, so we just did everything as instrumentals. We learned it all by ear and did a really fantastic job of it. It was all for our own enjoyment and really made us all become much better musicians. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Check out the other greatest of their live albums, a show of hands. I was fortunate enough to live in a city where they came every tour, so I saw every show from 2112 to a show of hands. Thats gotta be 15 to 20 years. My all time favorite progressive rock band (well tied for #1 with Dream Theater).

Kel needs to see the boys and their joyous interaction. How about the "official" Limelight vid, the one shot during the studio recording at Le Studio back in the day? It really captures their essence and is one of their top tunes on just about anybody's list.

June 4 1979 Geleen Holland. The Pink Pop festival. My first Rush gig. Not sure about them at this stage, but this came up 3rd song in the set. And I was completely blown away and became a Rush fan. Had it on bootleg for years, but it's now officially available on the 40th anniversary Hemispheres cd. The differences- mainly Geddy's bass runs-are subtle but make it still the best version I've heard of this amazing song.

Always glad to see someone discover Rush. I've been a fan for nearly forty years, seen them dozens of time live, but I'm a little bit jealous of someone that gets to hear their great music for the very first time. My recommendation for a great song to react to would be Freewill off of Permanent Waves. That solo section... blows me away every time I listen to it.
