Nikola Tesla deserves being taught about more in school. He was one of the most talented minds. Edison did alot to slander Tesla..
Very true. I agree!
Fascinating oversight, intended to try to conceal his genius. Now because it's uncomfortable, we don't want to teach the very real and known American history, calling it critical race theory. It's not that difficult, the hate is still with us. Tesla, brilliant and his intelligence should not be ignored.
Seems like the worst assholes usually get most of the credit in our historical teachings
Telsa is also a cautionary tale we should tell when it comes to the dangers of mental illness. He still had a lot to give to the world if not for it. He was so bad that, when he was seriously depressed, he actually self-administered his own version of electro-shock to change his mood which probably just made things worse.
our shitty country the philippines stl has edison plastered all over children's and high school textbooks, no mention of tesla whatsoever that's how backward we are, I learned abt tesla by reading in a proper library at 8 years old
I was taught very little about Tesla at school. Knowing what I’ve learnt about him since, I’m actually quite annoyed he was overlooked
Edison was just a businessman and took other peoples work, But Tesla had the brains to experiment and make things.
"Just"? Inventions and patents are nothing without businessmen, who turn them into products and do business with them. There's no question about it that Tesla was more ingenious inventor and unparalled genius, but that's just one way of viewing the matter.
Tesla was not about the wealth he was more about helping the human race to have the access to technology that would make life easier. And he was declared a heretic for his ideology and was shunned by the greedy powerful elite. It's a tragedy that such a great innovator had ended his life in the conditions that he was living in.
Usually they conquer a free land and stole ideas you know the kids stuff
I concur
That’s such an oversimplification, it’s hilarious.
Tesla was abused his whole life and died in poverty. His life is one of the saddest stories ever told. We just lost one of the greatest minds ever because people suck, being genius is not enough. :/
@@Xaviar_Western That would have been a very quick death, surely a mercy compared to the long decent into poverty and dementia.
I don't agree with you about that! He definitely deserved recognition and money, and it must have hurt, being cheated the way he was. It's a pity he's not alive to see how the pendulum has swung back in his favour, and is tragic, yes, but given the choice I would opt for the latter !
At least, Tesla left a legacy and generations will remember his name long after he’s passed on. The vast majority of humanity has not and will never make such an impact.
No he wasn't, no he didn't and no it isn't. Finally, no, we didn't.
@@martinda7446 So the OP is wrong on every point? Prove it!
As most geniuses, Tesla was underrated during his time, mainly because nobody can understand his genius. Good thing he is now known, and a consolation for him that all he was, was not in vain, like the life he lived and sadly how he died.
some people wonder if Tesla was a "high functioning Autistic" person. The ability of Tesla to imagine his inventions in 3D and perform experiments on these inventions in his head without building physical models was a big indicator.
If you go read enough history Tesla invented the radio first. In modern times it's commonly been re-accredited to him. And he had millions of other inventions that were not discussing here including the Tesla valve which is being reinvestigated today for water and fluid flow and it's proving out to be better than anything we've designed in the computer age.
You mean "watch enough UA-cam"

Yes, he DID invent radio first, and it was his effort to be of service to humankind that did him in. His financial backers were only interested in how much money they could make.

Totally he has around 196 patents across the world. Man was a true genius. It's not even FAIR to put him at the same category as Edison. Edison was a business man and Tesla was an inventor!
He had a lot more ideas and drafts of inventions that he never patented. In the thousands I believe. I always enjoy the story of the electric packard that he had an electric motor installed and then he had some people gathered to do a presentation. He came out holding a box with vacuum tubes and wires and what appeared to be an antenna. He hooks the contraption up to the electric motor and then flips a switch and say we have power. He cruised through the industrial yard and was said to have reached around 60mph. After he had completed his demonstration, one of the attendees comments that he must be using some witchcraft or something. Tesla was instantly angered by the comment and rips the box out of the packard and storms off. The box and any plan of the device was never seen again. So when everyone gushes about Elon Musk and his electric car bearing teslas name, I'm hardly impressed. When he solves the mystery of how tesla created the device to convert the atmospheric energy into a usable energy source that would allow the electric car unlimited energy to travel without any need to plug into a source of electricity, then ill have to say that the Tesla name is on a true innovation that he had created.
42 is truly an idiot. He has no original thoughts. Not one. He can only spout what he reads on Wikipedia.
@SunamiKilla I'd settle for 20% accurate but to compare Edison favorably to Tesla is intellectually dishonest. And that is what 42 is - dishonest.
Don't forget Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower---It was Tesla's vision to provide free wireless electricty...and it worked. Edison saw no advantage to give anybody free anything so he sabotaged Tesla's invention. Now over 100 years later, we all pay for electric gaged by meters that run off lines. OLD TECH.
@@johncampbell829 That is why the US Government never fully released Teslas work.

Nikola Tesla wrote an amazing autobiography titled My Inventions, it’s a short book but it’s witty and worth the read. I adore Tesla and all of his strange and quirky ways. People often make fun of him for his love of pigeons and one in particular which he nursed back to health. He said he loved her as a wife probably because he was a lonely man who never found love or married, which is kinda sad but not nearly as sad as his psychopathic rival who electrocuted cats, dogs, horses and an elephant in public only to prove himself wrong with D/C. Let's be clear here, Edison's so-called inventions were few and far between. He was fortunate enough to start that laboratory and hire young brilliant people who actually did the inventions that working under Edison was able to tale the patent and most of the credit. On the other hand, Tesla found himself unselfishly working for Edison improving many of the companies inventions and other cases thefts, and came up with many of his own inventions. The fact that Edison is only being called out now is that he was a cruel man and used 100's of brilliant people's ideas as his own. The additional fact that he electrocuted 100's of animals in public to try a scare the world away from alternating current should have had him hung in the city square. The light bulb that Telsa developed for his Westinghouse generators were far superior to the DC lightbulbs that Edison was producing for even a 6-year-old could make those today. Marko, that is simply ridiculous. Tesla was a gifted inventor and built upon the work of the true greats, Maxwell and Faraday - Who gave the world the whole of electromagnetic theory and practice.
Not only that Ferraris was first inventing the polyphase AC motor and gave it free to the world...Tesla patented it...
Einstein (as you mentioned him) simply dwarfed Tesla with his contribution to the understanding of the universe, as did Faraday and Maxwell.
This is fact - looked at without preconception or bias, after all what would a world be like if we all made up stuff just because we liked the sound of it.
I would go further and say he was a showman and self promoter and much of his reputation comes from this rather than any meaningful results from his work. He also got a lot wrong, especially about radio. He just didn't understand some of it. But I will not say that as it might upset some who have made up stuff in their heads about him.
The answer to that is politics/ capitalism. I mean look at how much hate there is to Tesla the “automaker” that just so happens to also build their own computer ships, Ai, solar roofs and solar storage, car insurance etc etc and is 100% American company...and build 90% of their parts in their electric cars unlike other more “profitable” companies. Tesla developed the AC systems and that was a stroke of genius. AC can be transmitted with little limitations of long distance.
But later in life Tesla developed a fixation to deliver power to customer wirelessly. In his view, permanent lightinings were traversing the sky delivering power. This was the madness that destroyed him, as it alienated his financial supporter.
Great video, thank you 42...
What was madness/witchcraft before is science now. Isn't Solar power and Wind generator somewhat a wireless concept? The beginning of the video explained the exact same thing. I wouldn't say Tesla was mad, I would argue that he's an exceptional inventor and great visionary. Yea, and Edison was more of a businessman than an inventor, but i think he should've even tried to pay Tesla the $50k. I think Tesla wanted the money to fund his experiments to create the AC generator and other thing and because he didn't get what was promised he developed a grudge, which is understandable.
I mean, he wasn't completely wrong. Or at least he was on the right track.
Solar can basically be considered power (that can be) delivered wirelessly from permanent light traversing the sky.
@@chere100 He wasn't trying to generate energy wirelessly. He was trying to deliver energy without cables in large amount over long distance. This was the sign of ill mental health, and upon knowing this, the bankers withdraw their support.

I'm not saying it was a good idea. Just saying it makes sense if he was trying to make it cheaper to deliver the electricity.
My understanding is that Eddison employed people to research stuff and then claimed the inventions as his own because of the way he had written the employment contract. I believe he even requested Tesla help him with a project ,promising to pay him a large sum and then when Tesla produced the gadget, laughed at him and told him he had been joking while still walking away with the design.

Don't forget that Tesla's 3 phase AC system worked from the box. And it still works in it's original design .Modern tech has brought a lot of improvements (remote controlling, higher transport voltages, more efficient transformers etc), but around the world you still have AC generators 100 years old connected to the grid.
As for AC motor , Tesla didn't invent the first one.He invented 3 phase asynchronous motor , one that is still used in it's original design. That motor was and is the workhorse of the industry.
Tesla was a nutty personality , but his intentions were good and with vision of improving the life of humanity , not his own pocket.

Another aspect of Edison's legacy is the existence of Hollywood as the centre of movie production. Originally based in the New York area, movie companies would often have their equipment destroyed by goon squads sent out by Edison, who felt he should be getting royalties for every movie made with "his" camera invention, even though he only altered the design of the originals. Attempting to get as far away from Edison as possible, early movie companies discovered California was a good distance from him and his marauders, but also the weather was much more agreeable to outdoor filming. The orange orchard that was the future Hollywood was close enough to the city of Los Angeles for convenience but also far enough away for more natural outdoor shooting areas that genres such as the western needed. At least until the arrival of sound in film, anyway.

That's another major reason people despise Edison now. The man wanted a monopoly on film and was pretty tyrannical in his methods.
That's interesting. Thanks for sharing
But Luis la prince actually developed the first camera.
I wish Tesla could see the world of today.
He might be disappointed by the people, but the technology would be a wonderful progression of his ideas and dreams.
The Friends "Pivot" reference was amazing
Great video man! Very educational!
"A fire hydrant and a nut case"....you sure got that right!
Tesla was the mastermind, the genius, the innovator, the prodigy that brought it all up. Sorry for the other ones, but there is no contest
Brought what up, exactly?
@@ominous-omnipresent-they I’m assuming he’s speaking on technological advancements and/or electrical engineering…

Original title: Who's the FATHER of electricity: Tesla or Edison?
Yea I saw that
Yeah! Why'd he change the title?
Is Mandela up to mischief again?
Probably an after thought
It was also "who was more intelligent Tesla or Edison"

Let's settle it once and for all:
Nikola Tesla: like
Thomas Edison: comment

Thomas edison is a thief.
We would probably have flying cars if Edison didn't mess with Tesla the way he did.
You didn't learn anything from this video clearly.
@@Pcwarmachine the man didn't have an original thought in his entire career. How should we respect someone who stole ideas, made marginal improvements then went out of his way to crush any rival? The guy was just dirty. You ever wonder why *nobody* except for Americans likes Edison?
@@dr.floridaman4805 He didn't pay him though? Or did i misunderstand the 50k?

The amount of puns in this video was quite shocking. I guess you could say that it was a testament of Arran's electric personality.

you show an image of Spok from Startrek. He is a Vulcan

@@cryptocred5754 Yep. We can’t let this go. I say we get this geeky chub and give him a good solid whippin behind the bleachers after school. Let’s stuff him in a locker and lock him in over night too!
In story character played by Leonard Nimoy is Spock he said he is half Vulcan and half Human with Vulcan farther and human Mother.
I love that he loved animals and pigeons were his love.
Sounds pretty creepy if you ask me
@Lany Lany we do the same here in Botswana, but with Tesla, in his own words "I loved that pigeon as a man loves woman, and she loved me."
I'm writing a science fiction story that explains Tesla's preoccupation with pigeons, their hematite and how they interact with time travelers which makes it clear he wasn't actually in love with a pigeon as you would love a woman...
@@TupocalypseShakur you really think he was in love with that pigeon romantically. I mean reporters don't blow things out of proportion at all as we know.
I mean they based the very first evil scientist villain in superman comics after him when he said he plans to create a weapon so powerful to end all wars. People at the time were viscous same as today, only he didn't have the internet to issue an explanation right away.

@@AxxLAfriku wow.
Nikola Tesla is just science smart, he's too gullible in business
Did you watch the video? Both of them "stole ideas" aka improving on something that already exists. Tesla cult is so strange.
Edison stole like a business man he is
tesla's love for science and inventions has more weight because he didn't care about profit. edison on the other hand focused on money.
Profit is ALWAYS important.
1. What good does it do to invent anything useful that could’ve made you rich just to then live and die broke?
2. He could’ve used the money to help others if he didn’t want it himself.
3. He could’ve used the money 💰 to fund other projects that he needed financiers for, the financiers rejected some of his ideas that could’ve changed humanity and because he couldn’t fund them himself had to scrap them.
@@MrYoungzay it is important but you cant put it before everything else
@@bhf4972 Thats a very blanket statement. Money should be focused on first and foremost before you're capable of supporting yourself. To say money shouldnt be put before everything else is just dumbing it down to the bare minimum, money SHOULD be before everything else UNTIL you have the money to support yourself and what you do. After that point money will no longer be important, but if you think money isnt above everything else, talk to a poor kid in the chiraq ghettos living a hellish life.
@@nom6758 So you're saying that money should be put before all else? Including putting it before NOT murdering animals to make higher profits? Shall I put it before the lives of everyone and everything then? And am I correct in reading you there when you imply that blanket statements are bad things followed by the blanket statement that "money SHOULD be before everything else UNTIL you have the money to support yourself and what you do"? Hey I sure do hope its okay with you that I prefer to think thoughts which are not stupid instead of following your rules. Is that okay with you? If not I guess I will just have to find some way to live with that and move on with my life of not being a fucking imbecile. -_-
@@nom6758 Oh boy, there are societies that have lived without money. I would love that kind of lifestyle over the need of money. I love helping others. I just wish we would help each other out more without asking or needing money. If we want freedom, it starts with word "free". Why are we so obsessed with money and status? You will die. And not that differently than the poor person you mentioned. In face of death we should unite to help those in need with what we have or know. It's like you are saying, I can't raise my hand without money. That mentality is so soul crushing. And who said we are here to achieve something? No goals are better, because when you focus on one thing, you miss what is really going around right there and then. And that is important. You might be taught to get financially free, but that could easily cost you real connection and love from your family. It easily happened to me. When a disaster struck, only past friendship and family helped me, and ofcourse a friendly stranger. Be a friendly stranger.
Oddly, and somewhat ironically, the extremely high-voltage transmission lines of the Pacific Intertie, which are over 500 kV, are DC lines. Similar systems are in service in Europe and some locations of the British Isles. The experiment engineering was conducted in laboratories on Hat Creek in Northeastern California.

I install a lot of SimpliSafe sets for people, honestly one of the better systems that's going to kill ADT but problem is their cameras. A lot of confusing about their outdoor ones and I don't find them practical. I would suggest getting Cove cameras.
The one part that you missed was that Marconi used several of Tesla's inventions to invent the radio.

Totally love the Friends reference.
I must thank you from the bottom of m heart for being the greatest entertainment of education that I have come across in my 36 years.
Your videos are near perfect in explanation and attention span grabbing and as someone who has suffered debilitating ADHD his entire life, that speaks all the volumes of any book put to place . I watch you while I cook and when I go out to have a smoke . In a time where attention span is not insanely hyperactive to just those who deal with ADHD , your videos are a shining example that learning is for everyone no matter what the case . Thank you 🙏
My friend, it's wonderful that this gentleman's videos are touching to you as are to me. I watch his videos when I'm having dinner because he takes my full attention 😊 Anyways, learning is for everyone, certainly you too. Be well my friend.
