If you spotted that I used footage from Saboteur II instead of Saboteur, congratulations, you have won one free "social media engagement" ticket and you are allowed to comment about it below. You will receive one pat on the back, and you can ask one person if they remember something.
I spotted it because I have the eyes of a teenage boy where pixellated ladies are concerned...
Do you remember eating? I'll take my pat on the back now.
Was that impossible mission one the one with the robots?
@@RoulDukeGonzo it was! Do you remember it?
@@RoseTintedSpectrum so good! It think... Do you remember it? It had robots!
Pfft. The correct home for Chuckie *is* the Speccy, and I'll fight anyone who says different. It was the original game that Master Alderton presented to A&F. The Beeb version is an interloper!
You nailed it! Chuckle is my No.1.
Well this is a list of absolute classics and still manages to be a terrible list.
The internet was a mistake
Right! Everything you said and done was wrong, okay! The platform, numbers, games, upload time, accent, colours, numbers, gender, what you had for tea this day, Iain's name, ALL OF IT WRONG!!!
The TRUE Top 10 spectrum list that everyone in the world agree's with and if they say different is because they're being paid off by you and the BBC!

You forgot Airwolf
The game that most interested me on the Spectrum as a kid was Werewolves of London. My exposure was limited on the Spectrum so there are undoubtedly games that would have appealed to me more had I played them, but the idea of being able to explore a city, go up on roof tops, use crowbars to get into sewers, and walk through underground railways really appealed to me. In hindsight it's not that great of a game, and I have no interest in werewolves, but the concept A*.
The Honourable Mr. GigerPunk is, in my opinion, a gentleman of class and taste. Some tantalising options to pick from there, Dave, and I hope we get to see your (obviously definitive) list before I succumb to a bad case of the curiosity-related vapors... 💖
I was going to say something very similar to this, class and taste indeed!
Thank you for this video. I'm not really interested in fighting over which particular classic is slightly better than the others*), but this brought back so many memories. Like that time when a friend gave me a map of Saboteur 2, a copy of a copy from a Polish magazine, so I could finally beat the damn game. He even pencilled in the secret cave beneath the left tower that gave you invincibility...
*) Even though only a lunatic would pick Rebelstar over Laser Squad. What was it about a sequel that did everything better?
The George Clunt Mafia will be watching that second video verrrrrry closely
Saboteur 2 was great too. Managed to finish it only once, using a map printed in Your Sinclair
But you can't have a pic of the boring blue Splat! cover without the shiny (lenticular?) cover that drew my eye to it in Micro Mart in Kidderminster! These days you can get it on large sheets of wrapping paper for a quid, but back then it was a rare treat for the eyes, up there with fluorescent plastic and UV lights :D
Oof Manic bloomin' Miner.. Should have seen that one coming! Out of the "democratic" top 10 I'd probably go Bruce Lee
Since recording my little bit Journey's End has gone down my list, but the font is still lovely 🙄
Rebelstar, rather than Laser Squad's multiple missions of similar strategic goodness?
Tau Ceti and its sequel Academy are the only omissions that make me weepy. Somehow their simple pseudo 3D graphics felt amazingly immersive and I spent hours getting blown to bits in both of them. They were well received back in the day, but seem to have sunk into obscurity even among Speccy fans, especially compared with the likes of Elite, or even Carrier Command and Mercenary.
But you can mow the grass in Rebelstar. It's like you're getting two games for the price of one.
That Deathchase was in there and not picked is, as has been said, proof that democracy doesn't work.
That said, that I missed the whole voting thing also probably sends me (once my clogs inevitably pop) to a level of hell unknown even to Dante (and he made some bonkers levels, though not one for someone who uses 'that' more than they should as far as I know).
Great video as always that Mr RTS, thanks!.
Take care, mate 🤗
Isn't that footage from Saboteur 2?
I feel bamboozled but I'm not sure why....
Bruce Lee have very dinamic stages, that makes it fun, is like a spectrum version of Tomb Raider.
Great vid mate!
football manager every time
UFO: 2 (xcom on spectrum), Black Raven (warcraft on spectrum), Laser squad (tactical game from UFO creators) , Lords of Chaos (same but fantasy), Bismark (great strategy and tactics naval warfare/ ship simulation game)
This video gets more distressing the longer you watch.
Why wasn’t I asked to take part in this? 😂
I still need people for part 2 Dean! You've got time!
The Retro Asylum view is the CPC is better. It's fact!
@@DaveVelociraptor I think you mean they like Mega Bucks best.
Not choosing Elite I think is actually illegal in some countries.
The rest it's just sacrilege.
Someone else who likes mega bucks? I thought I was alone
No mention of bionic commando?
Saberwolf? You christing maniac!
RAAAAAGGGHHHH!
Google kindly offered to translate that comment to English for me. It said you're wrong.
Honestly BBC owners need eff-off.
288 Ariel Crescent
Robocop isn't an arcade conversion. The arcade game came later 👍👍👍
WAT. I had no idea. I wonder why the Crash review mentions the arcade game then?
Not quite, the arcade released November 88 and the game December 88 on the Spectrum. However the arcade came about by Data East sub licensing it from Ocean in a rather strange deal. Ocean then used most of the arcade for the home versions, but adding a few extra features of their own i.e. Photofit
Well shows you what I know because of those, only JetPac makes my personal top 10!
When you voted for Saboture you showed Saboture 2
Just thought I would say.
CHAOS was by far the greatest ever spectrum game made.
Just loved the spectrum. Will be showcasing some games myself at some point. Thanks.
Saboteur, Durell, great company. Wasn't them who made the grandfather of GTA, Turbo Esprit?.
I would take out Manic Miner off the list and put Turbo Esprit.
It was indeed!
Hmm.. I suspect everyone who voted against the legendary Minder were paid off or warned off by Chisholm.
I saw what you did with Atic Atac, or I would have if the lights were on. And Cyclone, which turned the tech demo TLL into a real game. This behaviour is outrageous!
I've gone mad with power
Cyclone!
I am unspeakably angry about a great many things.
Neither top 10 can be the best because they don't contain Halls Of The Things
It might seem odd, and maybe I'm being pedantic, but I think there is a difference between 'ZX Spectrum games' and 'games on the ZX Spectrum'. What I mean is that as much as I love Bruce Lee, I don't consider it to be a ZX Spectrum game - it's a conversion of an Atari 800 game. In your final shot of the ten games, you can even see what I think is the C64 screenshot! I'm curious what the top ten would be if you removed conversions from the list.
That was worth waiting for! Amazing work sir.
Can't wait for your terrible opinion on the second part.
I thought I recognised your voice at 4:46 😀
@@zx85 haha! Probably some AI trickery 😆
I used to love playing Stop the Express. Does anyone remember the spelling mistake at the end of the game? 😊
Fabulous game, playability was next level.
I never got to see the end.
I'm not sure whether to feel entertained or personally attacked.
Why not both?
Xeno
EVERYONE IS MY ENEMY
Thank heavens Trap Door survived. That's all I'm saying ❤️
The 'Saboteur' footage was from the sequel. Great video though and I subscribed. Not watched it all yet, paused to comment, but if Barbarian (by Palace Software, not Psygnosis) does not rate highly I might have to find out where you live. Obviously joking. The promotional material featured a soon to be member of Gladiators and a Page 3 'stunna'. Where is my pat on the back? Cheers.
Thank you for not only giving us a poll so we could be annoyed when our favourite games were excluded, but also excluding our favourite games A SECOND TIME just to frustrate us further.
Right, where's my kindling
BURN EVERYTHING
Yes I enjoyed the premise. Yes I enjoyed the excellent cameos. Yes I enjoyed the, as-always, witty narration. But, how did the game that me and my little Brother played the most on our late ZX +2A not get included anywhere, the all time classic, pack-in smash: Krazy Golf... Let me check if it's been reviewed before.. Ah, I might be mistaken, I'll get my coat...
Where's Sqidj ?
I want my money back!
Some of these are wrong opinions
Excellent use of Comic Sans 👍
I am the master of Comic Sans. I'm bringing it back for the masses.
I didn't spot the Saboteur footage because as a useless child I'm not even sure if I ever got onto the pier at the start! I feel this is something I should rectify. I'll go and have a nostalgia breakdown because the squishy laser sound in Arcadia tickled a long distant memory.
Arcadia for me too
Can't believe what you said about Kikstart 2 😭 It also had a course designer.....on the Speccy! I shall never watch another of your videos.....maybe.....oh OK I will.
PS. Is that a hint of a Geordie accent I hear? 😉
Cumbria, the Western geordie
Darn it now I have to wait for the next video, It will interrupt my constant stream of cat videos too. Although you did poor mercenary and elite dirty.
No Exolon, Cybernoid, Zynaps, R-Type? What garbage video is this
ok, so first of all that genuinely is a great video. I've not been that invested in a top system list like that since The Joy Of Sticks did his top 50 ST games by popular vote and maybe only because I'm a massive ST fan.
I got angrier as the list went on, but kept telling myself that there were so many good games you simply had to leave out some good ones. And then you'd leave out an absolute belter of a game and I got angry again.
I'm tempted to say I could make a top 10 list of the leftovers of the leftovers better than the top 10 list you make. In fact I might even be able to make one from the leftovers from the ones you took with you to yours.
I can't wait for part 2. You are a spectrum terrorist
I was about to riot until 3D Ant Attack appeared. Running around a "city" chucking grenades at giant Ants while trying to rescue "damsels in distress," I mean cmon.
Why does everyone overrate Chuckie Egg so much? I've never really understood... It's basically just a Pac-man variant with gravity and no power pills... Never understood it or saw the appeal.
We did have Spectrums in Australia back in the day, they were just very rare compared to the C64. While I was a Commodore Kid, I used to buy Crash and Sinclair User now and then because they looked so cool on the newsstands.
Hated Jetpack. Sorry.. but there it is.
I remember when my brother bought the game and raved so much about it that at the time I was expecting some sort of premonition fever dream of Kerbal Space program crossed with Alien Isolation somehow beamed into my 1984 brain from the future.
I remember thinking. Is this it? Why am I rebuilding my rocket every level. This is crap. I never managed to understand the hype about it and rarely played it other than to see what funny blob I'd be shooting next.
People don't play Chuckie Egg properly anymore. You could keep your horizontal movement while going up and down on the ladders. Most people try and position themselves in front of the ladder and that doesn't work. Once you crack (yes I did it) this then the game is a lot more fun.
This, above all other events in recent memory, is why democracy absolutely cannot be trusted.
Noooooooo! you got rid of that also-pretty-good Speccy game! 🤣 Anyway, looking forward to the next top 10!
oh man....the memories.....manic miner was gold. i uploaded all my spectrum games from a cassette.
why do you keep mentioning crash that mag was the worst out of them all and its still all about money chris wilkins is a money ho cashing in on the spectrum next now when it could have just been included inthe normal i want all your money crash mag, they guy literally has nothing to do with the sence unless he is sellign something like mags or prints from games
I agree, Renegade on the speccy IS the best version :-D nor actually had it back then but was so jealous of those that did!
Jet set willy if I remember , being the biggest selling game on the speccy . Not owning one , but Elite was 3rd & yes to skool daze
Bruce Lee was crap though! Way of the Exploding Fist was THE bollocks!!
wait a minyou kiddos didn't play Knight Lore
Mailstrom represent.
I enjoyed this format with a variety of different contributors.
F.I.R.E. worth mentioning too not only for a good music.
Great video as usual and I see what you mean about democracy not working. You managed to kick every one of the games from my top 10 out of your list if they hadn't been picked already 😐, I'm sure that wasn't intentional though. Looking forward to your top 10.
My favourite game is playing with FIRE
@@RoseTintedSpectrum That sounds like playing 'Wanted! Monty Mole'
Didn’t own a Spectrum and not play the games.
Sam Fox strip poker was the best Speccy game.
Infiltrator and ATF were my favs
TIMESTAMPS please.
Why did you ignore Dan Dare?
Great list!
#Jesus is wiser than you.
I dunno, I bet he can't beat the first level of Manic Miner blindfolded.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum How much you bet?
Thirty pieces of silver
@@RoseTintedSpectrum Ok, Rose, or Judas, or whatever your name is, that's a bet. I have a feeling you're going to regret this.
@@aclark903 Oh boy! I hope hashtagJesus streams his attempt on Twitch. I bet no-one expected The Second Coming to be in the digital realm.
Enjoying this so far but i would not read in the posh reading text voice so SO slowly. Its boring and hard to focus on as it seems like you are deliberately insulting your viewers and adding needless length to the videos for ad purposes
my top 10 goes like this . . .
1 . Zorro
2 . Bruce Lee
3 . Jet Set Willy
4 . Pyjamarama
5 . Horace Goes Skying
6 . 3D DeathChase
7 . Stop the Express
8 . Scuba Dive
9 . Alchemist
10. Flight Simulation
Horace goes skiing 😮 🤣 you need to play that today. It's a worse version of Frogger combined with a much more shallow and worse version of 2600 skiing.
Cousin Horace is worthy of a top 10 spot for a Horace game though. Even the item based adventure level is fun and makes sense with a reasonable sized map. The only issue that stops it being a 10 is the slightly crappy shmup level two and it not being clear that the start point is the end point on completion of level 4 but it's a solid 9 all day. Would love the tape of it to add to my old boxes despite not having played physical Speccy for years
Manic miner. Fred, Booty
Speccy games just looked so crap conpared to amstrad and commodore
We all know Head Over Heels is the greatest game ever made.
NOMAD was a classic, such an underrated game.
Rare that games I'd have in my top ten even get a mention..sadly as ones removed...
Tai pan 128 I consider beat game on the system, laser squad was just brilliant strategy and the basis of the xcom franchise and Carrier command somehow was better than the Amiga version. All in my top 5.
Just need a list with Footballer of the Year, Codename Mat2 a, Colony and Pyramid and I'll be content my top games finally get some recognition
Hmm, old games..
Agreed.
