I use to split like that, then one early winter I fell on the ice and burgered up my left shoulder and my sweet sweet wife bought me a 27 ton splitter, bless her heart.
you been blessed Brother !
Good video, Mr Duke. I like how you corrected yourself.
"Tell her -- Ask her"
😂
if we run out of sugar I'll have her stir it wit her finger Mama Bear :)
Good tips ! Especially the one about the sweet tea ! 😂
it works :)
That sweet tea line 😂😂😂😂
it worked the first time :)
I watched and rewatched that last tip very closely. That seemed to be the best one. lol
That's funny, before you said it I was thinking ok after the big one I'd want to take a break and have some nice cold sweet tea. 😂
I'm glad to see you using the 8lb. Maul! Lol It's that time of year brother, take it nice and slow or the fire wood will heat you up to much before it gets inside the stove! I think I will try that karate yell!
8 lbs. all the way :)
@@RuffCut Yeah, well I'm 69 years old and a 6 lb maul works fine even on white oak.
I can always stand a glass of sweet tea! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is the content that I come to YT to find. Great advice and heckuva swing
Thanks Nathan
My second day splitting was way better than my first. I learned not to bother with a big round with a huge knot in the side.
Second day I selected rounds with no knots, or really small knots. I was feeling almost like a semi pro splitting today. My accuracy improved greatly, thanks to my younger seasoned veteran neighbor.
Been there done that brother. I need to remember the karate yell. There are times I sure could use some sweet tea. Love and blessings to you and your family.
Duke I wonder how long it will be before they try to outlaw cutting and burning firewood to heat our homes? I'm sure they would like it sooner than later. They canceled my home insurance because I had firewood in my front yard and a wood stove in my house. Splitting firewood is therapy and good exercise. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Here in NJ they gave a hard time to a friend who was tryin to collect roof water for his garden.
That's cooooool .... Thanks for sharing. God bless you.
Man, the way you split that first round reminded me that I need to hit the gym. This video is chocked full of wisdom. The 0:33 mark had me LOL.
we need to be sure of ourselves :)
You the man sir
I'm not the man....but I know the man!!
@@RuffCut I also know the man 💪🏻
@@fleardynasty3224 AMEN!
Brother Duke, now I know if I hear Aha that I need to fetch a glass of sweet tea!
I need to get started on my wood been in the low 40s all week
Thanks! Apparently this 60yr old 100lb woman IS doing it right! Couldn't change out the backhoe with the splitter on my tractor due to my mans hand injury. Ive got big hard logs that are Difficult to split even with a sharp edge AND a wedge. And yeah! I yell sometimes too! Great way to expel pent up crap without counseling! HAHAHAHA
Lol tell her I mean ask her to bring ya some sweet tea lol. Now don't mess with Ole Duke when that karate kicks in son lmao.
👊💀
the caffinated karate kid lol
@@RuffCut Lol. 👊💀
Keep up the good work my friend! I like to chop off the sides on the bigger rounds but I have used this method as well of following the cracks. I’ve never used a wedge yet but I plan to try some out soon on some huge maple rounds I have.
yes Sir...a good idea to chop one side off...Thanks
Hard work for sure, you make it look easy! Me and my son been getting ours this same way...well, he's 16, he uses an 8 lb maul. I use 10 lb sledge with wedge. He can swing that maul way better than me. We have a lot of fun out there though!! Love your channel! Stay blessed 🙏
Great knowledge video. Hard work you have learned smart ways. We have a friend who has a gas splitter. Thanks for sharing. God bless 🙏 stay safe hugs ❤️
if you were closer i might try and borrow it :)
Sound effects are mandatory. I started chopping nearly 60 years ago. Best splitting: 0 - 20f when the logs are frozen.
thats a good tip Kevin...we don't get temps like that here...but yeah when they are frozen
Huai..YA! lol. Thats a tuffun. Lol. Ash can be a bear. Lol. Great exercise👍👍🌄
Hey Brother
Thank you sir great video
you're Welcome
GETSUM sweet tea!
Howdy Brother Duke- yep, I done swung an 8 pounder for many years. I still do just to make sure I’m still a man lol. A few years ago the Lady let me buy a splitter. I’m gonna keep her around. Take care and God’s blessings to y’all
My Pa in law use to say "once a man, twice a child" lol not much to look forward too :) Lord come quickly ! Blessings Bro. Paul
"put that Karate in there". and then tell her to "bring me some sweet tea". Man, you're hilarious!
she done caught on lol
We maul split to feed a hungry Hardy outdoor burner in IL, so we do plenty of that!
I noticed the wood looks like it has dried a lot before you split it, I found that splitting as soon as it’s cut is a lot easier by hand. I usually cut a tank full of gas and than split it. The wood I cut splitting green works best for me but I use a x27 fiskars, I just quit hand splitting not because I can’t but was advised to.
We had abou 10 trees cut down in 2021 after a big storm hit in fall of 20’ the supervisor said it was always best to try to split the logs when it was still green. Apparently thr sap is like glue one it dries the sap/glue makes it so much harder to split by hand. I gave some maple wood to a friend that’s been dried for over 6mos and it’s tough to split
I hope your kids will give you a nice 25 tons splitter on Christmas. :) You'll be fascinated how much you could split with it without too much hard work.
Way ti go santa.
lil sister don't know how to spell "to" lol
that's some serious karate.
Seriously!

Thankey
My beard is like yours and l use Grandsons to do the wood. Those boys will do anything for us especially if Grandma makes a pie but really they will eat anything and sometimes everything.
Silas Robertson did have it going on. Sweet Tea be goood.
Good afternoon Duke. How you doing? What's the name of your other channel
Hi Billy...doing good Worm Gitter Channel Thanks
@@RuffCut will check it out
Kaia!!!!
😀
I can outpace my log splitter, but I run out of gas a lot faster!
hey Joe Tom ! We don't have to buy gas or work on a log splitter!!
Best ending to a video lmfao
These days you have to call the wife on cellphone for some sweet tea and she might meet half way and by then it's only half of glass 😳🤧😁🤣🤣
Mercy !
lol! I like the 8lb for men comment!
8lb gives you a workout for sure.
throw that thing up there where you can feel it in your wrists and then you got the right arc...most folks don't know and the maul becomes work...Thanks
I prefer the hydraulic version 😃
they're handy no doubt !
Poplar is the easiest wood to split.
this isnt poplar...poplar doesnt even grow around here
Put that Karate in there…..F yea!
yeeeeaaaahhhhh :)
Dedgumit come do mine 😉
surely you are not telling me what to do :)
😂😂
8 lbs for men 6 lbs if youre not sure..😂😂😂
