The more videos I see about BRZ, the more I become interesred. It's probably one of the last true sport cars before dawn of inevitible elctric age.
I have the same feeling for this
Exactly, I feel like if I want to enjoy a true sports car, now is the time 😬
such a defeatist attitude. I don't see charging stations sprouting up quickly, in fact I don't see any.
@@odinikita4821why? I welcome electric cars. It is inevitable and needs to be done to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. I love cars but this is bigger than a few people wanting to drive ICE sports cars.
@@odinikita4821 I do. New Tesla stations becoming more common day by day
Every time a BRZ video of yours pops up, I watch it without hesitation
I will say dealer markups are price gouging and should be illegal. I tried to test drive a 22 civic SI yesterday and not only was the dealer not allowing test drives, they added a 6k markup on top of MSRP. So a 32k car is now 38 and out the door is over 40k. That's ridiculous
Oh I've experienced worse. Tried to test drive the Supra last year, and the dealer was like: "Let's run your credit and discuss price first. Once you decide to buy the car, you may feel free to test drive it." How the fxxk is that a test drive if I already bought the car?!
@@tomtang0514 lol yeah if you’ve bought the car it’s just called driving
But dealers were meant to protect the customer! That’s why direct sales from manufacturers are dangerous 🙃
Blame uncle Joe

I love my BRZ! I bought in February and have hardly driven until recently because of the summer-rated tires. I have the "limited" version, which in Canada is called "sport tech" (no idea why there is a different name for it). It puts a smile on my face every time i drive it. This car is not about absolute speed, but travelling on twisty roads, or the rare traffic circle we have here. So much fun!
How was it in the winter ?
Those beautiful hands are once again hypnotizing me to get one of these... I miss both my old FRS and my BRZ dearly, they always just felt so special to drive. Seeing you drive these ZC8s is getting me feeling nostalgic, and now I'm perusing the classifieds! Maybe I need to grab a GR86 and we get on track for a head to head... 😉
Heck yeah! I may have just messaged you about an upcoming track day 😎
One of the best 2022 BRZ videos I have seen. Nicely done.
Great video! Your original video on your premium sold me on the car. Just put an order down on this exact spec (Lim, WRB, MT) last week. This wait is going to be hard, but so worth it!
Congrats on 400k subs, keep up the great work!
Thank you for the shoutout! Any time you’re in the Tampa area, you can take any of my cars out for some videos
I love the Cameron Hill shoutout. That man has been a gem to the car enthusiast community.
I've seen some GR86/BRZ owners run the USB cable under their seat and to the driver's door side. They plug in the phone and rest it in the door handle area when driving. I figured I'd do that as I can't think of another decent area either. Hope this helps, love your videos and am eagerly awaiting my GR86 order's arrival!
hey that's a really good idea, thanks! :D
I was thinking about just buying a phone sleeve and using 3m tape between the seat and center console but it might be hard to reach.
Loved this comparison! You should do old vs new in the future
I love your reviews. I just ordered the 2023 limited in world ralley blue. I’m super excited !
LOVE that shout out to Savagegeese! Keep up the great work!
Appreciate the detailed review for both trims. Thanks a lot for sharing!
9:05 savagegeese LOL
I wish we could tag him :(
Amazing video, def my go to to get 22 BRZ content - can't wait for mine later this year! With the phone situation, I've heard routing the cable under the seat, you can place the phone in the door handle area. Involves buying a long cable though.
I’m a simple man….I see new brz content from TheTopher, I click like and watch.
KEEP MAKING VIDEOS ON THE BRZ. thanks
Just bought the 2023 brz limited, absolutely worth every cent!
@TheTopher great video! Anyway possible for you to create your top 3 list of cars that you review in each car category / segment? Sometimes it's difficult for the audience to compare your feedback between two good reviews of the cars from the same segment. Having your preference supported by your experience in a top 3 list, etc. would be super helpful.
Man, she's a beauty! Great insights, good work, man.
Convenient timing for this to pop up in my recommended; I JUST got home from the Subaru dealership and placing my order for a manual BRZ Limited. First car I've ever bought, been driving my dad's old Tundras for the past decade. Was originally gonna go for the GR86, but the Toyota dealerships here refused to let me place an order for one saying I just have to get lucky that one would come in and that it was extremely unlikely for a manual version to come in sooooo to Subaru I went.
Did you order a 2022 or a 2023? I even contacted Subaru directly TWICE as the dealers are clueless and they said the 2023 hasn't been "approved" for sale yet. Seems odd. One Subaru rep said the BRZ is having issues passing emissions and not sure when the 2023 will be released if at all. Yeah lady, they spent money to design a car only for a 2022. LOL We are waiting to order a 2023 as soon as we can. :) Grats on your purchase!
Car really is comfortable with a surprisingly plush ride. Coming from a Focus ST (which was firm but not terrible), the BRZ is pretty big improvement.
I am surprised people aren't getting the spoiler on these. It looks so good!
Thanks for making your reviews about the car and not the reviewers ego.
I just ordered a new '23 BRZ Limited 6AT (WR Blue Pearl) two days ago. I have a good working relationship with the dealership and got $1,005 off MSRP. It'll be a June '23 delivery. Pretty excited. Looks fun.
Please keep this BRZ videos coming....
First time ever to see a car review around Ann Arbor!!
Great video! That is one slick car.
I just factory ordered a 2023 BRZ Premium in WR Blue to replace my 2020 performance pack in the same color. Your videos are the reason I've fallen in love with this platform and I am so excited to get my 23!
Woo! Me too. Im so freaking excited. I had a 13 and then a 17, i cant wait. Hopefully our cars come in soon!
Same boat, had a 16 Frs for 5 years
Hello may I ask if for a factory order you paid a reservation price? Thinking of trading in my WRX for a 2023 BRZ.
@@gottagofest1610 I was quoted 30,018. For a premium(base)at msrp 1,080 destination and only accessories is a home link mirror. 23 models are $600 more than 22s
@@bhearing7681 Thanks for the info man. Crazy how MSRP + 600 is still cheaper than markups.
Nice video. Thanks!
The blue looks fantastic on camera.
After several autocross events I'm ecstatic with my BRZ. I added the front camber bolts and 245/40R17 Falken RT660s and the grip limits on-course is amazing. I also did an event on the Primacy tires and it was a nice exercise in car control, perhaps even more fun than on the Falkens. I didn't care about the 18 inch wheels on the Limited since I run 17s for autocross.
what size rim do you need for 245 and does it rub at max lock (u-turn)
@@urbly2638 I run 7mm of offset to prevent rubbing. I noted a slight rub due to autocross but compared to street driving it is pretty demanding, so that shouldn’t be an issue there. Due to SCCA rules I run stock 7.5 inch wide wheels but I don’t recommend that for normal driving. Stick to the Tire Rack recommendations and you can’t go wrong in my opinion. They recommend 8.5 in width at this size.
@@aroundomaha hm thanks, I appriciate it
I know this is about the BRZ, but I can’t wait to see your review on the Nissan Z!
Thanks for the extended insight! I'd be happy to see you make more videos on it.
I have one question if you don't mind: Are the mode settings sticky? Does it stay in sports mode after you turn off the car? Same with traction control and lane keeping assist. It is one of the main things that annoy me about modern cars. Having to configure things every time the car is started. It's what makes me think to get a base model as it hopefully comes with less. Though it might be different in Australia. The Type R came with lane keeping and other annoyances in AU when it didn't yet in other countries.
PS: I did watch your Type R videos many many times. And when I got to a point of being able to buy one they stopped making them. I'm hopying to have more success with the new GR86 once it makes it to AU.
This is my dream car ever since I played this car at Gran Turismo 5, and even at Assetto Corsa. Would love to drive the real thing, but stocks and pricing here in the Philippines is very unfair.
The BRZ or GT86 here would cost around $40k~$45k when paid in cash, and around $50k~55$k when paid in terms. Hopeful to even buy the older model used, because I truly love this car. Watched your old videos also back then, and I hope to buy one soon.
Nah the new BRZ is such a good looking car, especially for 30k, in a couple years these will hopefully be everywhere and just be such amazing deals for a great look and fun.
Nice car! I love the color. I'll have to test drive sometime to see if I like.
I love that 90´s radio. Simple to use.
Any plans to review the mx5 2022 with KPC? Im interested to hear what you think of the new brz/gr86 vs mx5 now with all the changes made to both the cars
I come here to only say that I bought a new grey magnetite Subaru BRZ and I am so happy with it.
I'm probably gonna wait until next year but I'm really itching to sell my CX-5 and get into something smaller and back to driving a stick. I'm basically gonna cross-shop every manual under 40k that isn't a complete dog but I'm kinda leaning BRZ. It just looks so fun.
I prefer the grill and the spoiler of the gr86 but I can’t get over the wr blue and the red interior. It just looks so much better.
The most fun and balanced sub-$40K driver's car you can buy (or not buy...) right now! Looking forward to driving a base model soon for some extra slidey action. #BRZBOIZ

Just put my 2023 on order!
Re the pad for right leg tunnel. My '17 Limited has that and it seems like it doesn't hit me in the right place. It is right where you showed you wish you had one. Nice that you can drive and compare the two trim levels.
I hope Toyota/Subaru finds a way to keep this car alive in the age of electrification. I think something along the lines of a electric motor sandwiched between a manual transmission and a gas engine like the original Honda Insight should be adapted here!
Solid review. Appreciate how I’m depth you went. One of the few reviews that did such a great job with the video as well as detail you provided. So thank you for that. I ordered a ‘23 limited. As a Brz owner, what modifications would you recommend? Thanks!
Depends what you’re going to do with the car but I’ll have a video on recommended mods soon!
@@TheTopher you’re the man! Thank you!!
@TheTopher Thank you so much for doing another review and including the sound system test. Your channel is truly the best for car reviews. Anytime I wan to see what a car is like I search TheTopher (car here) :)
My only question about this car. How is its audio system for the limited? And how would u guys compare it to the audio system on the 2021 wrx sti limited? There's no good comparison videos out there so wanted to see if anyone knew
Dude i cant wait for mine to get here been waiting since February
Did you receive it how do you like it?
we need substitute topher reviewing your car
Mine is coming end of month, so exited
How long did it take to get delivered? And how much did you end up paying?
@@Brzito I got it for MSRP price plus tax, plus license and registration, got up to around 32, that's what I financed with my bank. Took about 5 months to come is.
Lovin the BRZ
Wish they include auto blip mode for daily traffic same as most modern manual cars
I'm suprised you watch cameron hill, been a sub to him since his 9th gen civic si days
I’m surprised you went with this over the WRX for a daily driver based on both of the videos you posted. Seems like the WRX premium would be more practical with the car seat and both cars (wrx premium) are roughly the same price. Also WRX is all wheel drive and you like in MI with a lot of snow. Great reviews though thx
Thanks for releasing these videos, they’ve held me over until I was able to pick up my Halo Premium MT GR86 earlier this month! If you see one driving around Novi, give me a wave or flag me down for a chat!
I also removed the clutch helper spring as I really enjoyed my 13’ BRZ much more with it removed. I also adjusted the clutch travel to have less dead travel prior to the engagement point (it now sits slightly above the brake pedal), have you tried this? Took about 5 minutes, it feels a lot more natural to me now, and I wish I had done this to my BRZ while I had it. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts.
sweet! And likewise if you see me around. I haven’t adjusted the clutch pedal butI’ll look into it, that sounds like a nice change.
Love the delay in the gear indicator. Maybe it really - what gear you just left.... lol.
Yes to lightweight fun rwd sports cars!
The new gen 86 is a good improvement from the first gen.
Damn, the infotainment and knobs/buttons for hvac is perfect. I wish they used this on the new 22/23 base WRX ugh...
Does the BRZ have duel injection (port and direct) like that of the 86?
Im just learning how to drive manual. May i ask why you go from 4th gear to 6th gear when your pulling into the highway?
Fingers crossed, everyone. Come noon tomorrow, I may or may not have a reserve on a 6-speed GR86. I've only driven manual a handful of times, outside of sims with a full setup, so it'll certainly be a learning experience, but I'm chomping at the bits, waiting.
EDIT: No dice. The allotment to my local dealership was only for ONE automatic, zero manuals. I will try to remember to update in two weeks, after they get the next allotment.
Hey @TheTopher #TheTopher , watch at 7:46, but with all love bro, I love watching your videos but ain’t tire pressure always physical? Lol thought that was funny, thought I should share 😂
Love this car got an alfa romeo 4c and BRZ. These cars r so fun not much HP but tons of fun.
Huge difference without the fake noise. Way more enjoyable.
Agreed!
First thing I did with my '17 was pull the plug from the 12 volt socket behind the glove box and use it to plug the noise tunnel. It is an annoying sound.
@@xSikks But maybe you should have kept it plugged, since the last gen model did not have any fake engine sound. There was a sound pipe that physically amplified the engine sound from the engine bay. The sound coming from the pipe was 100% real. The new gen model (2022 onwards) are the ones that actually have fake engine sound emitted from speakers. In fact the sound emitted does not sound like an engine at all. It seems like some sine waves were combined to create a new noise to simulate engine noise. The end result sounds terrible.
Still can't get over how beautiful the new twins are. The old ones looked great too but I'm happy they didn't do some outlandish 2020s styling
How is the manual shift feels? It is smooth shift or do you feel a slight click (clunky) when shifting?
You forgot about the blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
Im glad you said "Australia comes with a spare (tyre/tire)" because I was wondering why I sometimes saw a spare sitting in the middle of the boot/trunk in some videos and not others. Since im in Australia mine will obviously come with a spare (full size actually).. I wonder if I can pull it out and put in the repair kit instead to utilise more boot/truck space?
Not sure if anyone has said this before but Topher kinda sounds like the English voice actor of Takumi...🤭 so its kinda appropriate of him to be reviewing the BRZ/Gr86.
BROO YES, literalyyyy
I cant believe i actually found someone who noticed that, your comment made my day (5 months later lmao)
The brz is truly something special. I miss my 2014 frs. Still the best feeling manual transmission and clutch in any car I’ve driven. So satisfying to drive and corner with. Unfortunately I couldn’t deal with the stiff suspension and manual trans for daily driving, it just became a headache for me. But on night drives with just me and the car, nothing else mattered but that connection. Wish I could have just one more night ride with it. Great video!
The new BRZ is a lot softer! Almost rides like a Camry 😂
I'm on the other end, I have been daily driving mine for 4 years now and don't care for a softer suspension.
The new model is definitely more compliant than the old one…which is a good thing.
You mentioned moving the lower bolt of the front knuckle into the top hole and installing a camber bolt in the lower hole. Are you at all concerned about this? Surely the bolt size was chosen for a reason by subaru, is the smaller diameter safe?
"here we have a dyno map, that actually shows a small torque dip" LOL
Great shout out to SavageGeese in his natural form.
How is the trans/clutch noise? Can you still hear the notchy gear changes and clutch clack when going through gears?
Ayyy shout out to Cameron Hill. Love that guy.
Driving a 2011 prius i will definitely will pick this up when it kicks the bucket which might not be for a couple of years but ill be ready for any opportunities
The thing to keep in mind is that YOU are going to kick the bucket. Life is too short to spend it driving a twelve yr old Prius. Go out there and make it happen!
I kinda wonder if putting 225 or 235 /18 tires would help or hurt handling? Also, I'm thinking these wheels except in a bronze/gold finish? Oh boy! In addition, I really see those headlights swiveling at the night drive section! Pretty damn sweet!
225 on the stock wheels works well.
Honestly for me I wanted the Limited (or GTS for the toyota) for the sound system, lights, heated seats ect..... but I HATE the feel of suede, so I'm worried I couldn't stand the feel of the seats or door pads
Hi Topher, Enjoy all your videos about brz so much actually because of your I bought my BRZ ad I'm loving it.
Two things: Wondering if the engine makes a clank sound or noise when you cruising in first and second gears? Also sometimes I find that when 2nd gear goes into 3rd gear it feels like it's hitting gears if I change it a bit fast. Are these normal? Thanks !!
It’s hard to tell without hearing it but there have always been some funky noises from the engine and trans in these cars.
@@TheTopher Thanks for the reply!
I wish in my country we would get the updated look and engine we still have the old one 😩
Do these have seeled headlights? Or do you have the freedom to upgrade the headlights and highbeam??
just got mine delivered yesterday, just in time for the last snowstorm lol
That’s how it works haha congrats!
@@TheTopher Thanks! Put 200 miles on it this weekend, I think Im in love lol
i'm glad to hear the clutch is better . i drove the first gen FRS and that clutch was waaaaaaay too vague. a lot of stalling.
I'm getting ready to order one. How would you compare the seat feel between the Premium and Limited? I'm 6'3" and if one is more padded than the other, I'm concerned I might sit too high.
I definitely prefer the BRZ without the piped in noise, was just wasted time IMO to include that.
Agree on the steering. Apparently the rack is very slightly slower (13.5 v 13.0) but it feels like they’ve upped the assistance a bit too. It’s like they’ve been influenced by the ND Miata. It’s accurate enough and probably makes the car feel a bit more “chuckable”, but it’s lost quite a bit of feel (maybe any feel) in my opinion. Probably the only thing that I think the new model has gone slightly backwards on.
Agree with the knee pad!
The voice command initiation is from the steering wheel button. I accidentally knock it all the time too.
And ditto on opening the center storage with my elbow all the freaking time! Arrrggghhh
Lol cool to see the Savagegeese cameo.
I got my GR 86, and I love it.... seriously this beast is amazing to drive. Best purchase I could have made. Should I stick to 16' inch tires for winter tires?
would you consider the new gr corolla as an upgrade?
I got Michelin x snow tires on the same 18 inch wheels and was super pleased. They are quiet and the grip levels are honestly similar to the ps4 tires.
16s are perfect for winter. Would recommend a slightly narrower and taller tire 205/60r16 is perfect
Cool car. Wouldn't give my 2021 wrb sti for it, but I wouldn't mind having one and putting the sti under a cover in the garage now that they don't make em.
Any plans for bolt on modifications and CBE's?
Hi there. Question for you since I just can’t get my hands on one. With the seat down, will my large collapsing dog kennel fit? Soft sides, not metal or plastic, I could set in up on the seat itself. It’s 26.2 inches high, 25.7 inches width and 38 inches long. Thanks!
Don't cry no matter how bitter it is - Despite the pain
Hey Topher, couple questions! How does the music sound on highway compared to an ND soft top miata? The miata bothered me since I couldnt really hear the music with all the wind noise.
Also you mentioned 28-29 mpgs. Whats your typical commute? Ive heard huge ranges of mpgs for this car… some saying as low as 21 mpgs. I feel like ~25-26 combined might be an accurate assumption?
21 isn’t that bad. I get 22 in my Honda Civic that is supposed to get 38 mpg
