This was the band's first music video ever and it saved the group. They were endangered of being disbanded when they shot this video but luckily someone uploaded it to social media where it took off and saved the group. Since then the group gained control over their music, their costumes have changed, Miku learned to play guitar (she was faking it in this video) and the have over 130 songs to enjoy. When you delve more into their catalog you'll see this band is criminally underrated. Welcome down the pigeon hole.

I recommend their songs "From Now On (Official Music Video)" and "Hate? (Official Live Video)" when you are ready to see newer songs from them. But it can also be nice to watch "Freedom (Official Live Video)" and "Domination (Official Live Video)" to get a better sense of how they have grown over the years.

This was their very first music video, from way back in 2014, when they had been together less than a year. Band founder / 2nd Guitar / 2nd voice Miku Kobato (pigtails, red flower) didn't play guitar before starting the band. She had only been studying guitar for a few months and if you pay attention she isn't really trying to pretend to play here. To this day, lead guitartist Kanami Tono generally records all the guitar tracks in the studio, and Miku has to learn the parts for their live shows.
Since you enjoyed this, their very first video, you might enjoy going to their UA-cam channel and just watching the songs from the earliest to the newest (which would actually take a while), so you can watch how they change and improve.
Or, since they are a killer live band, you could just look at their Official Live videos and take your pick.

THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. This classic MV is still excellent but you'll be overawed when you see them now and performing live. Have to recommend you try a live performance they released a couple of months ago, from their 10th Aniiversary concert in Nov 2023, called HATE?.

Although not considered their best, this song is highly regarded as it is the song that saved the band.
The label was going to pull the plug if the song didn't do well.
Thankfully, a J-rock Facebook group posted it to their page, and the MV took off!

Band-Maid are one of the greatest rock bands playing today (THE greatest if you ask me). For me not because of gender or outfits or country of origin or anything like that. It's that they write amazing, melodic, multi-layered, well-crafted rock music and play it brilliantly. You've got the song that kick-started Band-Maid under your belt, so feel free to try anything else on their channel. If you want to check out some live songs, maybe sample from their recent arena concert at Yokohama: Hate, endless story or Don't You Tell ME. But they are so consistent, you can pretty much choose randomly.

@@Reactionmiss Whether you choose to react to some of Ohrenje's content, it's very good, or not, I'd suggest watching the documentaries on the members. Their personal stories, Miku's in particular, are interesting and inspirational. While we "Maidiacs" find their music hits a spot like no others, it's them as people that engenders the loyalty you'll find from the fan base. They are genuinely great people who obviously care deeply about each other and their fans. They have written several songs as letters to the fans, Smile and About Us being my personal faves, and their most recent release "Bestie", a collab with Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger, is a very sweet expression of the closeness of their friendship. "Endless Story", with a live video from their Yokohama Arena show last November is another and will illustrate my meaning perfectly.
TLDR, come for the music, stay for the musicians. You'll get a lot of "the live is better" comments, which is a tribute to them as performers as they always give 100%. Hope to see you again soon.

New sub here. You stand upon the precipice of either falling in love with BandMaid or getting distracted and thinking they are just another band. They're not. They are arguably the greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Hyperbole is very difficult to avoid with BandMaid so screw it. I envy you so much. There is so much wonderful music,, tears and laughter ahead of you if you keep listening.
There's no way to describe here why all the things they do combine to create the music. Tons of riffs - enough to make an album for most bands in one song. More hooks than grandad's tackle box. Genre bending writing and performances. In damn near every song a sing along bit for the fans to keep us engaged. Word play between English and Japanese homophones is not uncommon. Deep collaboration between all members to allow everyone to shine. What they have done is harness their egos in service to the song. Akane Hirose and MISA are IMHO the greatest rhythm section currently active in rock music. Truly inventive bass and drumming - not over played but always interesting with unusual choices that make the songs rich. They're not just keeping a beat EVER! Magnificent composition and stellar guitar work from Kanami Tono and equally magnificent vocals from Saiki Atsumi grab us by the ears.Then There's Miku Kobato- no Miku no BandMaid. Founder, chief lyricist, vocal harmonies sung while playing rhythm guitar she is the backbone of this group. She's the lead singer who fired herself so that the lead singer would have a more rock and roll voice. She's the singer who learned to play guitar while in the band. A paid professional learning her instrument on the fly. Now she has her own signature model of Zematis electric guitar. She willed BandMaid into existence.
I haven't even begun to say all I could. Come and see for yourself!

This is the best band ever. Right now my playlist is 90% Japanese bands because they are all very talented. Band-Maid is at the top of very stacked pool of bands coming out of Japan. I am 55 and have seen Pink Floyd live, and when Band-Maid comes back to the States I will be there watching the best band ever!

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

This is one of their more simplistic songs, as they get a lot more epic than this! Probably the best hard rock band on the planet right now! However, they are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Japanese female rock and metal bands. For something just as epic, if not moreso, but more in the metal realm, check out LOVEBITES! In the eyes of many, the top four or five Japanese female bands are LOVEBITES, Band-Maid, Nemophila, Hanabie, and recently Bridear has been starting to get a lot of notice.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Welcome Masters and Princesses to the best rock band on the planet. Any Maids track always ROCKS as they come for your soul. These beautiful ladies are in their early 30s now and have been rocking for 10 years with plenty of Solo work from Misa and Kanami. The great thing is they always look so happy.

Are all great tracks and they have an extensive back catalogue (130+ tracks).
The 5 Band-Maid members:
SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. The youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions.
MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon. I believe she couldn’t play when she formed the band and was tutored by Kanami.
KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want is more!
AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Their Battle Gear as they call it with slight variations are standard maid outfits for Akane, Miku and Kanami, a head maids outfit for Saiki and a Ninja maid outfit for Misa.

@@Reactionmiss Thank you for replying. They are extremely good. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and have very high standards.
I like their "live" performances the most, but the instrumental "From Now On" is superb. Their vocalists have had surgery, and they have instrumental tunes to give a rest.
They are not "one trick ponies". Once you 'get' their rock, also listen to their acoustic "unplugged" performances, eg. "Catharsis".
