Regarding the 3rd point/threat, movie ticket prices. it's important to note that movie tickets are already relatively affordable in India. While further reductions, corporate bookings, or buy-one-get-one campaigns might create the illusion of a successful box office run for a movie, these strategies are not sustainable for the industry in the long run. The film industry cannot produce large-scale movies if ticket prices remain low, as the potential revenue from ticket sales would be limited. It's essential for the audience to recognize that if they aspire to see Indian movies with budgets of $50-80 million, capable of competing with mid-level budget Hollywood films, there needs to be a willingness to contribute financially through ticket prices. After all, the film industry operates as a business. Expecting to pay only 80-100 rupees (roughly $1) for a ticket at a multiplex while anticipating the production of a $100 million budget Indian film is not feasible.
Other than that, pretty much agreed with points in video. Current success of box office is because of SRK comeback, SRK-Salman crossover, Gadar nostalgia and Rajnikanth factor. And if Hollywood has learned anything from Flash, you can't fool the audience in coming them to theatres. In the end, quality of movies will matter.
Bro single screens should increase ,a lots of them have closed to re open as multiplex , what they miss is that ,that is where the revenue comes from for a commercial movie because of the repeat audience, u cannot have repeat audience in the upper class, repeat audience are mostly students and lower or lower middle class for them , theatres should be pocket friendly. Yes u can generate more revenue with small people from multiplex but it is simply not enough for big budget commercial movies which are heavily reliant on repeat audience
I don't think OMG 2 successded in its box office due to its franchise value it is because of quality and the boldness of the film that it became a success
the lack of a mainstream cinema in kerala and serious slice of life films which are jocularly called prakriti padangal is what made the kerala box office produce only two hits in theatres. romancham and now rdx.

Malayalam industry is the only industry where movies are known for the names of the writers.Which other industries lack.Eventhough we have somuch limitations in the commercial track compared to others where we need a complete back up from a stronger production house and scale up to large audience like bahubali and kgf did to telugu and kannada industries.I hopefully looks into certain movies like aadujeevitham,empuran etc.. can fill that void l. ❤️

If you just go into theatre of any recent Tamil movies in TN you would be able to see a group of crowd cheering for director's name louder than star's name
Nowadays audiences from all states are mature not just Kerala... It was once like that but after this covid pandemic everyone has started watching movies from other countries and stuff through OTT. Mainstream Indian audiences expect more...more than those repeated slow motion shots and typical template stories.Even the local street CD shops has started selling Korean and English movies more than Indian movies.

Don't know when will our fellow malayalees will stop boasting about things.This year only 2018 ,romancham& VOS made money from the Kerala box-office .All other movies failed miserably look at the results of onam releases like KOK and ramachandra boss&co (rdx is getting good response).Other language movies like pathaan ,jailer,por thozhil, Oppenheimer, John wick is getting good collections in kerala.

regarding the 9000 screens. Most of the screens(>5000) are only in States like TN,AP,TS,MH. Others states lacks movie screens. Comparing our population from the rest of India. UP,MP Rajasthan has far less movie screens.

I just wanna say Kantara was a very average masala film with a great start and ending.
The ticket pricing is insane they charge differently for regional movie other language & foreign films

The IPL and other screenings in theatres might be a good pull for the theatre owner but once this starts to rise, theatres owners will look at this as a safe space and won't promote the small movies which come with no backing by the big names in industry. Thus, the small scale films will take a hit and there will be a drop in the movies. Theatres should be making their money and be in that safe space with anything they can do hopefully there won't come a time where they are not supporting the cinema whcih are they built for in the first place.
Some movies can just be watched at home they do not offer a community watching experience, that's a fact . Like omg 2 even though a great movie , it can be enjoyed the same sitting alone or with family from the comfort of your home , but the problem is the ott still needs to expand a lot to the common people for the movies to get a larger reach . I think over the years only movies with community viewing experience will go to cinemas others good films can directly release on ott . Without one being a threat to the other . Movies like jailer , kgf will anyway be released in theatres
